Reinsforde School of Special Arts: The Harbinger
an excerpt

"I could take up the assignment to Spain and you could go and board at RSSA. How would you like that?"

"Not at all," said Hannah with a hint of exasperation. "Mum, they're breaking their deal and I really don't like the sound of this school. It's weird."

Joanne took the wok off the heat and retrieved two plates from the cupboard above the fridge, displacing Raggy the cat.

"Unfortunately, as with most deals, there is a clause stating that some circumstances may mean both for us have to work. I'm not sure how urgent this Spain situation is but they may force me to take the assignment or I'll loose the job--and it'll reflect badly on Dad."

A shiver ran down Hannah's back as Raggy jumped up on the stool next to her. Hannah took the offered plate of cashew chicken.

"Well, yeah. But do we even know anything about this school?"

"Yes, actually. My work... Quite a few people at my work... know it and have had dealings with it. They seem to think it's pretty good."

Hannah raised her eyebrows. "Dealings?"

"Sending children there, attending it themselves, working with staff and students from the school and so forth." Joanne put a forkful of their meal into her mouth.

Hannah poked her own serving for a moment. "Raggy, quit hissing," she snapped. The cat blinked at her. "I just don't know if I really want to move to the UK."

Joanne finished her mouthful. "You've always known that at any moment Dad and I could have to up and move the family."

"Yeah, for work. This is some random school. Why on earth are they even asking me to attend? How do they even know I exist? Did I win some random lottery?"
