Brief Author Bio:

kestlebird wrote her first mystery story at the age of 7, wrote a lot of angsty journal entries and a few sci-fi/fantasy adventures in high school, then traded adventures of the mind for world travel, rock climbing, ice climbing, ski bumming and general real-life adventuring.

Then she got a real job, got married and had children and it was back to adventures of the mind - and writing!

Synopsis: Indistinguishable from Magic

A broken cyborg teams up with a struggling Fairy Godmother and her charge, a sarcastic, 13-year-old pediatric cancer patient, to knock over supernatural banks in search of the one thing that might cure them all.

Excerpt: Indistinguishable from Magic

At first, he thought she’d missed, because he didn’t feel anything. But she wasn't acting like she had missed. She was just sitting there. Watching him. And looking thoughtful.

Then he saw something drooping down into his field of vision from above. He could barely see it if he crossed his eyes and looked up, but there appeared to be a miniature dart embedded in his forehead.

“What the… what is that?” he asked, his voice sounding far away.

Wynonna gave him a thoughtful, assessing gaze that sent chills down his spine. Or maybe that was something in the dart. It was hard to say really.

Finally, she answered him. “A prototype.”

And that was the last thing he heard before the dart dissolved into a small cloud of nanobots that bored into his brain.
