Everyone knows that the best heroes can be found on farms. Not because the author lives on a farm or even because it is a literary trope. the fact simply is that caring for other living things added to the isolation of nature brings out something heroic in a human being. Thrust a quarterstaff, or better yet, a sword into a farm kid's hands and point him at a dragon or master swordsman and his survival rate is twice that of any kid from a city, be he newsie or penthouse prince. This goes doubly when it comes to children of the suburbs. In fact, if you live on a cul de sac, avoid dragons at all costs
