The Promethean Heresy
an excerpt

“In the beginning, there was the Earth, and she was bare. And she was lonely, and so drew down the Sky, and mixed it with herself, and labored, and brought forth the Titans, the Gods, the Asteres, and the Hekatonkheires. For a time, these wandered the Earth, and loved, and hated, and fought, and brought forth children, and Earth was content. But they were children of the Sky, as well as the Earth, and eventually the Asteres left to dwell in the Sky, where they became the stars. Then the Titans and the Gods made war on the Hekatonkheires, and they were slain. Finally, the Titans and the Gods decided to dwell between Earth and Sky, on the Heavenly Mountain. Once more, Earth was lonely, and cried out to her children.

“The Gods and the Titans had become bored, in any case, and chose both to please their Mother and amuse themselves at the same time. And so they created first the seas, and the rivers, and the lakes, so they could gaze upon themselves, and filled them with naiads, and with the great monsters, that Earth would not be lonely. Then they created the plants, and covered Earth with them. Third, they made animals, fish in the seas, beasts among the plants, and finally birds, that the Sky should not be lonely.”
