Haunted House (tentative title that probably won’t be the real one, but whatever)
an excerpt
The security guard stared at the blue… thing… depicted on the surveillance screen in disbelief. Never before had he seen anything like this. He zoomed in and let the camera refocus. A golden retriever puppy was trotting across the mall parking lot determinedly, moving in a perfectly straight line, not stopping to look at passing shoppers or cars, not even stopping to inspect a hamburger someone had left on the pavement. That was not normal dog behavior, especially not for a puppy. Its fur was wet and slicked down on its back; its eyes were blank and staring.
Odder still was the light. Surrounding the dog was a blue light in no particular shape that did not reflect off any of the cars, and was not noticed by any people, as if he and the camera were the only two people seeing this. Little orange bubbles floated around the light erratically.
He sighed and pulled out the tape it was recording to. There was only one thing left to do with it. He popped the tape into his VHS/ DVD recorder and turned on his computer monitor, logging into Youtube. This was a recording to show the world. As he turned his attention away from the security screens, he failed to see that a burly man had taken the purse of a woman who was among a group standing around a television set turned to CNN, watching a report on a tragic bus accident in London.
