Synopsis: Eden Wasteland
Daena had seen her brother's temper rage before. He was the most gifted mage of their people, something she had never been allowed to forget. His duties were onerous. He was to be forgiven his shortcomings. After all, he was Special. This time, however, something was different. She sensed it in the air before it was too late, but she had never been close to her brother, and she felt no need to try and stop him. In her defense, she never imagined he could destroy the world.
Now with only a handful of survivors, Daena struggles to hold together their lives. If anything survives, it is far from them now, across a Wasteland carved by Fire and Arcane magic. Her brother is broken down. Her own gifts are lacking. The sanity of all begins to wane.
And that was before the Seventh Night, when the Changed Ones showed themselves.
It seems that everything living was not killed outright. But everything not housed within the working chambers of Chalcedony Tower was either obliterated or Changed. Animals, bugs... even people. They hunger for the unChanged with unchecked violence. They have just enough intelligence and memory of the Once Was to be dangerous. Hunger and instinct make them deadly hunters.
Faced with death, despair, and madness, many choose to take their own lives. But the ones who choose to fight to survive realize very quickly that they are more helpless than they once thought: the magic they'd all depended upon for so long was gone, destroyed when the world was.
And now it is a story of survival.
