Synopsis: A Mermaid Story

Mitchell Walker is skeptical when a fishing boat insists they've caught a mermaid. It has to be a prank, right? But something has them all scared. When he and his team investigates, they find a little more than they bargained for. A real living mermaid....but where did she come from? And why does the owner of the aquarium, Walter Mitner, want to take her away from them? Is he hiding something? Does he know where the mysterious woman came from?

The rest of his team:
Sarah Jeffreys - Marine Biologist and assistant to Mitch, overachiever and work-a-holic. Wavy blonde hair in a messy bun. Usually distracted by her work.

Tony Roberts - another assistant and expert diver. a bit too practical and spontaneous. if he sees something, he goes for it without thinking first. Spiked hair. Thin build. Cocky smile. Not a morning person.

The Mermaid (no name yet): Able to understand dolphins and possibly a few other fish at times, like sharks or whales. Smooth and slick when swimming around quickly, like a sea otter. webbed hands. Scales come up across the front of her like a sleeveless dress with her skin after that being a bit tough and having a slight greenish tinge in the right light. Random scales placed here and there into her skin on her arms so she tends to glitter sometimes. Long tail that is very flexible, able to be used as a weapon in and out of water. She also has some fan like projections that she can extend to make herself look bigger than she really is. Usually this happens if provoked. Her thought processes are quite simple usually as she is literally part fish.

Excerpt: A Mermaid Story

The ocean was vast and expansive, frothing and rolling it's waves around on the surface. The surface of the water was like a blanket, covering all of the activity going on underneath of it. It gave the casual onlooker a sense that the ocean was empty, uninteresting, and dull. Not the case at all.
Beneath the surface covering, fish twinkled by in their little groups, milling this way and that between each other and the coral reef surrounding them. The ocean floor was like a city with sea anenomoes and coral polyps continually building it up around the marine life that patrolled in and around it. Now and again, the smaller fish would dart away, making way for a bigger one, for that was the way of things. Survival was key in this dance under the water. You never knew what was coming around the next corner. Or what was off in the distance just beyond your sight. Or what would come up at you from the ocean floor that you couldn't see a minute ago.
She twisted and twirled through the school of fish, spraying them off in all directions with her movements. They all ran, she was much bigger than they were and therefore had the right of way. The sun filtered down through the water, diffusing slightly and glinting off of a few of the strange creature's scales as she arced her body down to dive deeper towards the coral mountains beneath her. There was a vast canyon, too deep to see down for any length before it started to look bottomless altogether. She was patrolling along this place, swimming fluidly with just her tail, her arms held close to the sides of her body to cut down on water resistance. Swimming along the crack in the floor of the ocean. Even though it was quite a chilling sight, a bottomless canyon, this was one of the few places she could recognize. She was born here. It felt familiar to her. The sense of familiarity went hand in hand with the sense of danger.
She stopped for a moment, listening...the other fish were keeping their distance, she could feel their hesitancy to get too close to the underwater abyss.
