Synopsis: Kov'ekt evt Pri - The history of the four

A long series of vignettes that covers the history of a fictional world from creation to extinction. (Joy Luck Club meets Samarillion meets the Bible)

Excerpt: Kov'ekt evt Pri - The history of the four

Before there were people upon the face of the planet, there were the Pri'Goham, which means foreparents, the ones who came before. Their coming marked the first people upon the face of the planet and when they arrived they found it to be good for supporting life but devoid of beings like themselves. They found a savage evil in the land, however and before settling on the planet they sealed this evil in a secret place never to be released. To ensure that this evil was never released they made three spheres that would manage the livelihood of the planet. They also placed helpers on the planet to watch over the spheres and to ensure that the evil was never released. In this way the Pri'Goham sought to keep the planet and themselves safe. Then they said to each other, “We have found a place that could serve as our home, shall we stay and begin our good work here?” They agreed and from that day onward they became new beings and stayed upon the planet ever after.

They settled where the eyes of the planet separate and the hills marked their coming; a place remembered for the four small mountains that stood where they settled. That is why it is called Veh'vt Pri (the place of the four) to this day. They made simple structures for themselves and were content to live off of the good land for sometime. However, in time, they longed to know what else existed on the world they had chosen as home. They said to each other, “Soon our good work will be under way and we will know nothing of this land we have chosen. Let us go and search the surrounding area to see what we might find.” They explored the reaches of their new home to the distance of a day's travel and found a great body of water to the north. The also found great mountains to the east and dense woods and a river to the west. A barren desert began to the south after half a day's journey so they decided not to continue in that direction. When they returned they said, “We have found a place that is greatly diverse. We must consider carefully where to settle to begin our work.” They discussed this at length and finally came to a difference of opinion. Half of the Pri'Goham wanted to journey into the forests, to follow the river. The other half of the Pri'Goham wanted to travel to the east towards the mountains to find safety in the hills. They talked at length but eventually, they came to an agreement that dividing would be best and decided to split themselves. Half of the Pri'Goham traveled west beyond the forest to the far side of the great crater lake, these foreparents settled and called themselves the DiHuft'Kin (the people of the wood and water). Those that traveled east to the mountains settled in the valley that lay between the great mountain range and the twin mountains and called themselves the D'Venft'Kin (the people of the rock). This was how the first two cities were founded.
