With No More Regrets. . .
an excerpt
I kept rambling on, not even noticing that Susie was becoming less impressed by the minute until I was done.
“You aren't happy for me?” I said, challengingly.
“Cass, you are one shallow – minded individual,” she said.
“What? This is something I dreamed of. One of my life's keys to happiness.”
Susie rolled her eyes and sighed loudly. “For now, at least. Sooner or later, it's going to sink in. You're going to want more. You probably already want more and don't even know it yet.” She shook her head. “And he's going to laugh in your face, because he knows you're shallow and not worth his time. You have done nothing except set him up to break your heart.”
I glared at her for a moment before I went back to the counter for a refill. Shallow – minded, maybe I was, but I was a happy shallow – minded individual. It didn't matter that it was just one night. I enjoyed it, Jason enjoyed it, and that's all that really mattered. I wasn't quite his type, considering he had his pick from his radio audience. Maybe I was putting myself down, but I had checked another item off of my life's to – do list.
As I was paying for my coffee, I noticed Susie leaving. I shook my head. She'll never understand, I thought. It makes me happy, and that's all that matters.
