Tom. She hadn't really come to terms with how much she was going to miss her little brother. In the three days of the train trip she had already written two letters gleefully describing her fellow passengers and the landscapes and the stops along the way. Tom would get such a kick out of the stop in Oklahoma where a Harvey restaurant had yet to be installed, and each passenger had to battle for a barstool, and the grease was so thick she could feel it on her skin as she left, having somehow stomached a sandwich prepared with butter and sausage and something else which tasted salty and a little sweet, but was so horrendously unidentifiable it was made edible only by Angela's own rather extreme hunger. She had accidentally slept through a stop. Since the Harvey company was paying for her trip, she had a sleeping cabin with three other girls that was quite comfortable. How easy it was to get lost in the rolling and the rhythm of the tracks!
