Synopsis: Captive Hearts

Ana Morgan was kidnapped when she was seven years old, taken because she possesses a specific set of skills and advanced mental capabilities that set her apart from children her age. She is taken to "the compound", a facility hidden in the mountains and away from the scrutiny of individuals who would be against what goes on inside it's walls. She is put through physical training and mental programming beyond what any normal individual would be expected to handle, as she is developed into something more than human: an unbeatable weapon.

Agent Pierce believes his programming is fail-proof. His whole life has been dedicated to his mission to create an unstoppable army, to combine discipline, loyalty, and obedience, and to use those principles to achieve what no normal human could achieve. He purges the children hand-selected and stolen of their memories, feelings, and thoughts. He instills in them a purpose, and trains them to be killers. He stops at nothing to achieve his goal, and disposes of anyone who gets in his way.

But Pierce doesn't know that something inside his operation threatens to take it all down.

Ana can still remember who she was. Vague impressions and distant memories of a life before the one she knows now haunt her dreams and keep her detached from the programming. As she continues to endure the intense mental training, something happens to her mind: it strengthens. She has become hyperaware of the feelings and thoughts around her. She feeds off these emotions, building the strength of her mind. She is able to hide this ability from her captors, convincing them that their programming is as effective as ever. She lives each day in the compound praying for a chance to be free. Yet she has begun to lose hope, convinced that no one in the programming is unaffected the way she is, unable to feel anything from anyone but the monsters who have taken them all prisoner.

However, when she is paired in a combat exercise with another captive, everything changes.

To Ana, Logan represents everything that she hates about the compound. As she stares at the most beautiful boy she has ever seen, her heart breaks at the lack of emotion in his eyes. He is perfect, not only to her, but to Agent Pierce as well. He is the best. He is proof that the programming works, and he has been brought in to fight her, to demonstrate what the rest of them could become. Ana struggles to fight back as he attacks her. Using their fight as a distraction, Ana tries desperately to get through to him, reaching out with her mind, pushing every thought and emotion she has at him. Her frustration at her failure cause her to fight back harder, until she has him pinned against a wall. And then it happens. The flare of emotion, the spark of the connection between them is so intense that Ana falls back. The agents coming in to pull them apart seem to snap Logan out of it, but Ana knows there was no mistaking what she just felt.

Every night, she tries to reach him with her mind, but with no luck. Until finally he is there, confused, yet determined to understand. As they come together, and Logan falls from grace, Ana's hope for freedom begins to return. They begin to get through to some of the others, and a plan begins to form.

They have one chance to escape, and they will need each other more than ever to survive. But if their captive hearts can ever truly be free, they will have to find a way to destroy Agent Pierce and the compound once and for all.
