Anyone know who our ML is for the region this year? I'd love to do it again, but with work and school and two volunteer positions and ten hours of training a week I don't think I can fit it in. Regardless, we should try to have at least a few get-togethers once November hits.
I put my name forward 'cause I'm a heck of a lot less busy this year (what with being graduated and only working from 8-4 on weekdays). I think regardless of whether or not I get the title of ML, I've got some great ideas as to what we can do for meeting up for the long road ahead in November.
Anyone else put their name in the Kamloops ML pool?
That would be great! I'm totally up for some write-ins/meetings, but I have absolutely no time to organize anything. That 8:00-4:00 schedule is what I was on when I ML'd last time *curses the life of a working student*
I might be up for one or two, maybe, but as it is right now, I work 50+ hours a week, have two kids, and my third is due November 27th (so that's going to cut into my writing time, OR give me lots of extra 3am writing time... not sure yet!)
If anyone does any writing stuff in Barnhartvale (say, the pub?) I'm in!
EDIT: Am I the only guy for the third year in a row?
I must say, I look forward to write-ins et socialiazing. Even if I haven't got a clue where anything is. Which is a lie. I know where the library is. And ... the Bay. And that's pretty much it XP
Let me know and maybe I'll be able to help with the organizing of things, what I can do anyway. If I check with my land lady, I'm sure I could get people over. I've got a quaint sitting room and a rather largeish bedroom that, if there are a bizillion people, could be used for sitting space :P
Yeah, we're all nutso Kamloopsians around here. ;)
I just got an email back from NaNoWriMo's HQ to let me know that I'll be working as the ML this time around. So, it's pretty much almost official. Har har! Anyway, I'll be putting together some information for when we can do our kick off writing session. I'll keep you guys in the loop.
If any of you are MSN users, go ahead and add perpetually_enigmatic@hotmail.com to your MSN 'cause that's where I'll be residing. :)
My house is massive, but half of it is actively being torn down, and I have two kids and a pregnant wife so... not here. I'm still voting for the pub. If we all bring our laptops, we can raise the nerd quotient of the entire neighborhood!
I'd make a cool image-y sig for this year, but I haven't a flipping clue as to what my story is even called (I HAD a name, but noooooooooo, Stephen King took it in his 1408 compilation. Bastard.)
My msn is ... joveenendaal@gmail.com for all those interested XP I spend a lot of time on there. When I'm not, you know, working. And even more time yet come November!
Besides, if you don't have a title you can call it, "My 2007 NaNo, in which the main character discovers he's not human but in fact a higher being trapped in human form and sent to earth to save the human, falls in love with a schoolteacher, and discovers that the key to protecting the planet is in eating twinkies." Or whatever, And look, you've just padded your wordcount by nearly 50 words :D
Working as a student is AWFUL. I feel your pain. *hug*
Heh, thank you. It's just the combination, I think; 25 hours/week is too much work on top of the four classes I'm taking. And I'm training for a half-marathon December 2 (and I fly out November 30, which means I'll have to hit 50,000 by the 29th!), which also cuts into the writing time. Insanity, thy name is Sarah :D
I just got an email back from NaNoWriMo's HQ to let me know that I'll be working as the ML this time around.
Yay, elenya! That's great news. I had a ton of fun with it when I did it, sending out inspirational emails every week and chatting with all the Wrimos through IM. I assume you're the ML for the whole BC:Elsewhere region? That's how it worked last time, and if that's the case it might be a good idea to send a note to the whole group introducing yourself or starting a thread in the forum for that purpose.
It'll be great to have a local ML this year. I can't wait for November!
Yay! I'm so excited for this... it's slightly obscene. But no more than I'm used to. ;)
Anyway, because I'm so excited and I'm mostly obsessed with technology, I've taken the liberty of setting up a Kamloops website for us local Kamloops Wrimers. I'm thinking that I'll work on this over the weekend (while I'm doing some overtime for work) so that we can have a functioning website by the beginning of next week.
I'd like to get the general consensus on what we'd like to do for a kickoff party. I figured that we could either something super casual and have this at my townhouse in Sahali: everyone brings something and we have a fabulous potluck/potlache or we could go to a restaurant in town (Forster's, Boston Pizza, Kelly O's) and have a grand time. Once we pick the place, I was thinking that maybe we could do our kickoff on November 3rd in the evening (it's a Saturday), since I know all of us have to work or go to school. I'm not sure when midterms are or if major projects are due around then but I want to be as flexible as possible. So, I need input from you guys! Lots of inputs. :)
Also, we need a mascot/nickname! I've been perusing the ML forums and everyone else seems to have some sort of awesome nickname/mascot and since we're just as awesome as everywhere else, we should have such information too! I have NO idea what to do for a mascot but I thought that maybe we could be the Loopy Wrimers. Haha, cheesy, I know, but I love it for some bizarre reason.
Okay, those are my thoughts for the minute. I'll probably have more later!
inexpensive coffee shop ; noun. A place that sells coffee, and not an image.
Don't get me wrong, I'd live at Cowboy Coffee if I could, but I just don't like to spend that much on coffee when I want to have six or eight cups. I don't go for coffee for the sake of going for coffee anymore, so I don't know where the hip, trendy hangouts for young people are anymore.
I'm not really that much of a fan of Cowboy Coffee anyway and since I'm not on the up and up for trendy coffee places, I have no real suggestions other than Zach's... but I'm not sure how inexpensive it is. I just figured that everywhere except Tim Horton's was expensive.
I'm boycotting Zach's XP Because they are anti-gay people and that makes me angry.
Umm ... Tim Horton's /is/ cheap. But they aren't well suited to large (esque) crowds I don't think. But it could be interesting anyway! Because they take debit now!
Oh no! Anti gay people? Where did you hear this? Anyway, we can try something else... I was thinking TRU has lots of places to hang out for writing purposes and even though I'm not a student there anymore, we can just take up a few tables in the Campus Activity Center; no one will know the difference. For those of us who like Starbucks, there is Starbucks nearby. For those of us who like Tim Horton's, there is a Tim Horton's nearby too!
My friend's dad and a bunch of 'comfortable with their manhood' friends and some of his homosexual friends went in, and some of them were holding hands and Mr. Manager got all upset and kicked them out, causing a big fuss. Apparently he has a record for homophobia with the gay people? I dunno. I just don't like the concept so I boycott.
TRU would work :D
It's neutral and it gives me, at least, reason to drag along someone else :D
Jeebus. That's awful! Y'know what? I do believe I've heard of this man but I had no idea that he was a manager at Zach's. I thought he owned a barber shop or something. Too many homophobic people in this town, I'm tellin' ya. Kamloops is too conservative for its own good sometimes.
Anyway, is everyone okay with TRU being our meeting place of choice? Could be fun to meet up there initially with some coffee (perhaps I'll even bring baked goods!) and laptops to greet one another in person; it'll definitely be my first time meeting all of you in the flesh, as they say.
So, let me know what everyone else is into so we can choose a date and time to meet at said locale.
TRU, eh? Sure, pick the place farthest from my house. :)
Also, Zacks just sucks for more than the anti-gay thing (which isn't so much Zacks as the guy in charge, but that's besides the point). I haven't been there in years, ever since the month where I went in there three times, and EACH TIME the prices were higher than the previous time. Shyah! Right! Like we wouldn't notice!
Well, I guess no-one did, it's always busy.
I vote for TRU, or Timmies (Timmies might not be set up for large groups, so it's fun to bring a large group there and just try to scare everyone else off).
Stupid expensive coffee. It's just coffee, not gold!
So, we have TRU or Tim Horton's. I vote for TRU because it's more private; we could always hit up Tim's on our way there. And, Mighty Jalapeno, if it's _that_ far away, I could always come and pick ya up in my shiny new Yaris. ;)
We're still missing sar_sunshine though.
Let's tentatively say that we're going to meet @ TRU on Nov. 3rd, sometime in the afternoon. Sound good?

Hiya all!
I just moved to Kamloops from Ontario, oh, just under four months ago and I am so excited that this place has a NaNo fan-base!
So, I'm also pretty excited to meet some people as I only know the friend I came with and a bunch of (older) women from work!
I look forward to more replies!
