Come on in!

Tell us all about you. How'd you find out about NaNo? Who do you already know in NaNo?

Ask questions ... no matter how silly they may seem, we've all asked them before. There are plenty willing and able to answer.

Don't forget to affiliate in your profile and check the box for receiving regional emails, you don't want to be left out of any 'secret' info that goes out from your co-MLs.

Speaking of MLs, feel free to PM any queries using NaNoMail to either sarahcoldheart or me. That's what we're here for!

Use this one!!

I've asked Cybele to delete the other two. For the moment the MLs are superpowerless while things are slow on the forums.

Sorry about that.

Added later: So the three similar threads are fixed, which means you can ignore this post completely!

Usually there's a nifty author search on the NaNo site so MLs can go out and greet newcomers with private messages and encourage them to drop by the forums. With the slows on the site that function has gone the way of the dodo, sooooo....

Okay newbies, I know you're shy, but you absolutely have to come in here and say hello otherwise, how will we know about you? In return you'll get a personalised PM from moi with a summary of what we've told everyone so far (meaning you don't have to trawl through all the posts to find out what's happening).

Come on in! Don't be shy!

hahaha okay....

yep i'm cancy and i just happened to be the first newbie to post this year (which was kind cool XD). found out about nanowrimo from my friend Ilkanta and i thought it was so cool i just HAD to join. i've been trying to come up with some plot or a few interesting characters so i have at least -something- to work on but so far i'm quite stuck haha. but oh well. i hope that i'll come up with something when the time comes XD

oh yeah! we found -the book- (So you think you can write a novel?) in the school library. i've been reading it. the stories are REALLY GOOD. wow. can't believe that people can come up with stuff like that within one month.

mm yep. planning to go for the kick-off (i'm one of the "two or three" mentioned by Ilkanta). wow then i can meet all the people who wrote all those great stories - and more =)

really excited and happy overall to be going for this

haha that's all for now i suppose XD

I wanted to start the ball rolling. Cancy beat me to it!

I'm Abigail, 15 year old schoolmate of Cancy's who found out about Nanowrimo a couple of years ago and always wanted to join. November was always, however, judgment month for us students. To hell with it this year, I thought, and I tried to drag several people with me. And I had succeeded! Kind of. I've always loved writing and I always have a few billion ideas bouncing around my head, and Nanowrimo's just the thing I need.

I was really surprised that the Singapore chapter was this active, and after scouring the school library for that book, I found it! I really like what's done there and the fact that I might be able to meet the writers just sounds... pretty darn awesome. I really hope to get some writing done out of NaNo, of course, but I want to get to know some Singaporean writers, as all of those I know are really online friends from Australia or America.

Uh, random stuff about me. I'm a gamer. I enjoy sticking my characters into bizarre situations in my daily life just to watch them react- they truly to become real, separate people for me. I write alot, but I don't read nearly as much as I should. I'm a fan of heavy metal and classic rock and alternative stuff, I'm trying to pick up guitar, and I'm having a great deal of difficulty holding back my enthusiasm for "OMG NANO YAY!" for drawing on during the inevitable mid-November slump. Yeah.

So, hi, I guess. xD

Sehr interessant =/

Third to post, then: Sentrovasi reporting for duty.

Well; I'm sixteen and a serious writer of five years (eight, if you count my early experiments as serious writing ._. Let's just keep it at five.) I joined NaNoWriMo last year, but never did get a chance to attend the write-in or post on these forums (but once, if I remember correctly). At any rate, I hadn't the blessing of foreknowledge: I only learnt about the NaNoWriMo at the beginning of November: some people I know on another forum had, quite inevitably, their word counts in their signatures. At which point I signed up and then had to leave for a trip to Hong Kong; what transpired after my return was three days of writing and 10,000 words - and then the deadline was reached.

Ah well. I resolved to come back and actually get something proper up this year: despite my experimental nature, though, my strengths lie in noir and fantasy, so those are probably going to be the genres I'll be writing this November.

Myeh; there're a few exams I don't quite look forward to coming around the time of the Write-In, though... so much as I'd like to attend, I'll probably be engaged... If there's any chance at all I can make it, though, I'll be there - if only because a national congregation of writers is something I've never had the privilege of attending.

oh dear it appears that this is rather late.

i'm kylie, 15 yearold schoolmate of cancy and abigail. i heard about nano from a friend last last year? then decided to jump in with cancy and abbeh. my writing? has been on and off and i've never attempted a full novel before. short stories and poems and vignettes, yes, but never anything this big. *cringes as she remembers the fics she used to write in primary school.* i'll be in france for an exchange programme for half of the month of november; hopefully, hopefully with access to a computer.

diarynumber24, because i write diaries with a fervour, have been writing in them from the age of ... 10? 9? and am now on my 23rd diary. maybe this novel will be a 24th diary. so there you go.

other information about me would be that i do not type in caps unless i have to, pretty obvious by now i should think; my keyboard is wonky. the dash key delete key plus key and the home key is spoilt. and the backspace is barely functional. i learn french as a 3rd language, and i like tea.

kylie.

Hi I'm Lily. I found out about Nano from another online friend who was raving about it on her deadjournal last year. When I tried to join last year, it was already too late. This year she mentioned about it on her journal again, so here I am.

I guess Nano is a really great thing for me because I'm a born procrastinator. If I'm not pressured into it I probably won't ever finish a novel with my own pace. I started out writing more than ten years ago, but I've only finished about three of the numerous writing projects I've started (although they did turn out to be multi-sequeled affairs).

Hi all
I am Faith and I am so surprised to know that there are so many young writers.I signed up 3 years ago when I happened to surf on the US webbies. At that time, i thought there were not many sinapaporeans and the local site was not even up yt. I participated but did not manage to finish:)

Now, that I am 'back'again, I am just overwhemled. I am really happy to know that in this Little Red Dot, there are so many people who believe in the power of words and print.

I think my goal this year is to complete the task, I have even taken nopay leave from my job for a while in Nv to do that.

I may not be able to join you guys much at the Meet ups as family has certain commitments, but I will keep myself posted on the in and outs in the forums.

Hope to get to know more people through NaNo too.

P>S> My sincere thanks to the ML for making singapore known and for cordinating events too.You guys Rock~

Faith

Hello.

Very impressed there're over 350 people involved from this small island!

I cannot for the life of me remember how I heard about NaNoWriMo and I don't know anyone else involved.

I'm 42 and not in any way, shape or form, a writer! My main reason for getting involved is to stop family and friends from nagging me to write. I'm hoping if I can manage this they'll leave me alone! :-)

This is great! Welcome to all newbies.

Just a quick reminder to do two things:

1. Make sure you affiliate to Singapore in your profile so you receive all the regional mail.

2. Put Singapore as your location so your word count goes into our total, which all counts in any word wars we have with other regions.

Go off and enjoy the forums, now that they're actually working!

I'm totally slow, but yeah whatever I'm still posting this.

I'm asra, 16 year old schoolmate of cancy, abigail and kylie. I've known about nano for quite some time but never had the chance to join it due to -ahem- overloaded schoolwork. I've got no chance to escape joining this year though, abigail made sure of that. I've never attempted a novel, I prefer short stories and poetry, but hey, first time for everything yeah?

'alluminated scrolls' is my username here, 'illuminated' spelled with the first letter of my name as a sort of bad joke, no real reason why I picked that. Haha.

any other information would be I'm a sci-fi/fantasy nut. You'll never get me to write anything else...unless it's in French. =)

See you guys at the kickoff party!

HEY EVERYONE, SUP.

Haha I'm Cherie, 15 too and I speak German too! Well a little bit anyway. Used to take it as my third language in secondary 1, but quit after about half a year. I'm an avid reader as I assume most of you are, and love writing too.

I found out through Nanowrimo through fictionpress.com, and couldn't think of a better way to do something productive during my holidays. So here I am! :D Can't wait to get started; can't wait till the first of November!

Do you guys realise we'll have to write about 1666 words per day? This is my first year attempting Nanowrimo; I think it'll be a challenge for me but I am ready to take this challenge hands on! :D

Guidance, advice and friendly people are welcome and much appreciated.

XOXO
Cherie

Hello, I'm Sydney (the girl sort of Sydney) and you probably don't want to know the rest of my name because it's quite long but this sentence is longer so, /fail. But anyway I know people with longer names(:

My birthday is unique: I'm one day from four, as I like to say. But I'm 15. And I don't really like pink because it clashes horribly with my skin tone, but I do love shopping and my money management needs a lot of work. Besides shopping I like reading gay fanfic like Draco/Harry and het fic like Draco/Ginny (and no, ginny is NOT a mary sue! why does everyone say this! augh) and I like listening to music and I do hope I pass my philosophy course so I can get promoted to the next year):

Also I like long sentences and I have a weakness for them. I knew about nanowrimo yonks before this but never really could bother to get my ass over to the website and sign up, so this is my first attempt at noveling(: i know a coupla friends who're going to give it a go, too, or have already done so past years, and I'm contemplating pimping Nano to my English teacher, so she can spread the word around the English department in school. Obviously this has bad sides to it so I'm still thinking about this one.

regards and bestwishes, sydney

Hi.

Fors, almost eighteen, knew about nano back in 2002 but never got round to actually doing anything because I fancy myself more of a gamer and occasional roleplayer than decent writer but maybe a change was needed so yeah, hence the decision. Nice to meet you guys. I wrote fantasy, mostly.

Not going for the launch party thingy because a) working part time and b) frankly the thought of meeting utter strangers alone terrifies me more than the prospect of being damned for eternity because I pretty much hate the world sometimes.

Hi, I'm technically a returning oldbie, but I haven't really posted to the forums, except once or twice last year. I haven't actually finished a NaNo yet, so I'm hoping this will be the year.

I first found out about NaNo when my classmate, who was writing inclined, first challenged me to NaNo in 2002. I had intermittent internet access, but not sufficient to write a 50,000 word novel, so I turned her down. (Truth be told, the 50,000 word scared me. I didn't think 'twas possible to write so much.)

I revisited in 2003, and 2004, but again, did not have regular internet access, so I just shelved it. Then in 2005, I found the NRBC virtual pet community went to NaNo every November. I liked the insanity, and I liked the people, so I gave some serious thought to it. I signed up, and promptly forgot my username. XD

In 2006, I signed up, and with some help from Lilu and Quissie, who I first knew on the NRBC, wrote a caffeine addicted squirrel-elf who hit on a knockout, who turned out to be a witch, who promptly cursed him to grow a squirrel tail every time he got a caffeine fix, which also functioned as a chick magnet for the wrong sort of chicks, which immediately drew a squirrel sized squirrel, which fell in love with him, complete with parents who objected heavily, and a squirrel worshipping cult, which comprised solely women. And then the deadline hit. =P

Well...let's see. I've heard about Nanowrimo for quite a while, knowing Sarahcoldheart personally as I do. ^^" Not new to writing, just new to writing novels under pressure. The last time that I had to produce something in a month was a play. And thankfully, that turned out well (it was just staged at the Substation from Thursday to Sunday last week.)

I'm 20 this year, Literature major. Know enough German to get me over to Stuttgart for exchange next year, and enough Japanese to be reading the novel that I have next to me now.

What else is there to say...ah well, I have no idea what I'm going to write about but the ninja buny would probably strike over dinner later. Or something. Heh.

Yikes! So many German speakers! You should all come over to my house and listen to the woman next door to me screaming at her kids and let me know what she's saying, as if I can't guess.

A play at the Substation!! Wow!

Meh, what can I say?

I'm from singapore (duh). I love science fiction and fantasy in equal amounts. I like Philip Pullman, Orson Scott Card, JRR Tolkien, JK Rowling to a lesser degree, and the guy who wrote Dune. I highly dislike Narnia. (sorry to anyone who happens to like it)

One of the reasons I'm gonna use the forums is to get people to help me if, or when, I get stuck on plot, characters, need dares etc. Also I'm looking forward to meeting other people all over the world, but if anyone here wants to help me, you can add me to your buddy list / pm me (I have msn).

I'm probably going to write a science fiction story. In fact I have an outline! Yay! But the most I've written is only a 11k word story before as fanfiction. 11k...little more than 20% of nano.

So, once more, do pm me if you want to add me.

Thanks in advance!

Hi, I'm Crys, and this is my first time NaNo-ing.

I knew about NaNo a couple years back from my online writing group, but I never did join because November used to be the month of exams. At that time I promised myself that I would do it when I graduated. Unfortunately, now that I've graduated, I still don't have a lot of time, because I'm currently embroiled in my job.

Nonetheless, I've stockpiled my leave for this particular purpose. I'm hoping I at least get a couple of chapters written of my word-in-progress.

Truth is, I don't know what I'm doing, since I haven't been writing fiction for the last three months due to my 11 hours per day job. Oh well. Maybe NaNo will jumpstart the creative juices again.

Oh good, I can come out of the wardrobe now and say that I do not like Narnia. Gives me the heebie-jeebies like Alice in Wonderland. CS Lewis is a countryman of mine and I feel a bit guilty about not liking most of his work, especially as there's a lovely bronze statue of him stepping into a wardrobe on a street in Belfast near to where he lived as a child and I feel all sort of warm and patriotic when I drive past it -- and patriotic is something that's very hard to feel in Northern Ireland.

Anyway, welcome to another Philip Pullman fan. We shall dissect Northern Lights when it comes in film in a few weeks under whatever that name is they used for US version of the book. It escapes me for now. Something Compass.

Taking leave to do NaNo! Now that's serious.

Come along to the write-ins on Sats and Suns if you get behind during the week. It's usually a good time to catch up on the word count. You can also borrow an AlphaSmart to write on the way home on the bus or MRT. Really lightweight, switches off and on in a blink and saves everything automatically.

Golden Compass, they're calling it now; to match with the knife and the spyglass. Dark Materials, you see - I suppose they want to name all the books after tangible things to make them more obviously a trilogy.

Herbert wrote the Dune series, but somehow I preferred his son's works. Maybe I just can't stand how the timeskips between each book are so inconstant, so large and full of untold events that Brian Herbert, on the contrary, LOVED to describe in full, amazing, heartless detail.

We seem to have a bumper crop of new ones here. I wonder how many I'll meet this Saturday? hehh.
