This is the place to look for news of events and other happenings, such as non-events.

First thing: the Singapore website at www.singapore-novelists.com is up and running with some news and downloads. Go take a look.

If the forums on the NaNo site keep running slow then check the Singapore site for updates.

Don't have a laptop or regular access to a computer? Don't worry, we have the solution.

A nifty little machine called an Alphasmart Pro. It's a basic wordprocessor and all it let's you do is write and then link to a computer to download your work.

We now have 20 available, thanks to a grant from the National Arts Council. A $50 returnable deposit is all you need.

We'll be keeping five for use during write-ins and the rest are up for grabs on a first-come basis. Email/NaNoMail rozen to book yours.

Finally they're up! I'll be sending a regional email in just a bit!

EDIT: Strike that! I have NO idea where they've put the button for mass emails yet. They must have hidden it. Let's stick to hurrahing that the forums are up! HURRAH FORUMS ARE UP! Please go look at the Launch Party thread and confirm us the status of your presence!

EDIT2: Strike, STRIKE that! Found the button, it was HIDDEN.

You know that big gap on the 18th November when the Arts House are holding another event? Well, we've filled it with a NaNoWriMo Singapore Chapter Mini WriteAthon to coincide with the big WriteAthon taking place in San Francisco at roughly the same time, thanks to Earth's rotation.

More details later. But keep that date free if you can!

You've all had time to check your email and you should have got a scintillating message from sarahcoldheart yesterday. If not, then check your profile to make sure you're signed up for regional emails. PM me if you have any problems.

We've passed the 200 posts mark .... yaaaayyyyy!! Took us a while this year, but not our fault, blame the slows.

Now let's see if we can get 200 Singapore WriMos owning up to having Singapore as their location by November 1st. For some reason there are WriMos out there still not admitting that they're living on the small red dot or that they're from this 'sunny island in the sun'. What is that about? It's not like we're going to come round to your house and tie you to your keyboard or something. (Although we will if you want us to.)

Some sad news. I had a surprise for this year's TGIO cup presenation of two NaNoWriMo super merchandise mugs ordered. They arrived today in bits. I nearly cried. I'll bring some glue to the Kick-off and we'll do our best to resusisita... resustitat... stick them back together again.

Goodie Bags are packed and waiting for Saturday. Prizes are prepared along with a quiz or two. Just waiting for the day to arrive.

We usually have an Events section on the NaNo website but the tech problems have meant that most of our ML superpowers have been lost, so I'll just post up the calendar here. Venue is the earshot cafe at the Arts House unless otherwise stated.

Kick-off Party 2.30--5.00pm
October 27

Write-ins 3.00-5.00pm:
November 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 25

Mini Write-a-thon 12 noon-6.00pm
November 18 -- venue rozen's house (super secret address to be given out later)

Book Reading 2.00-3.00pm
November 24 -- venue, Kinokuniya main store at Ngee Ann City probably followed by wandering off for a coffee or something somewhere

TGIO Party 3.00-5.00pm (may be an hour earlier, waiting for Arts House to get back to me)
December 1 at the Arts House

No sooner had I posted that we usually have an Events section on the site (which was missing) than it popped up! So the details are all up there for when and where the meet-ups and write-ins take place in Singapore.

The latest epistle extraordinaire from sarahcoldheart has just gone out, so if you haven't received it then go check your affiliation setting in your profile.

We can't see anyone who has recently joined because the Author Search bit of the site is temporarily out of action. If you've just joined and you're lurking there wondering about posting then go ahead. I'll track you down anyway later on, so you might as well come on in now and introduce yourself in the Newbies' bit.

(Edit: Just messing around with the edit button and finding out what all it can do, like jumping one post over another and so on. Fun, what?)

Just sticking in here since you guys check announcements.

If you didn't receive an email by me, just check your settings and put Singapore in your location!

Meanwhile, NAME TAGS download at : http://www.singapore-novelists.com/downloads.html

Print it for this Saturday's launch and also for discounts at the earshot Cafe.

I'm jonesing for their ice chocolate. I always get those...

Some of you wanted an external forums out of Nano cause it was lagging. I'll be looking at this during the week if we can set up one out of Nano but mostly we'll use the Nano ones for anything!

Well, it wouldn't do if I set one up and no one uses, yes? Heh, just watch out in the coming week. If the nano boards stop being laggy and such, I won't set it up but if it continues to be unstable, I'll put one up at the singapore novelists website.

We've passed the 400 posts mark, despite the slows on the forums and Justin being awfully quiet.

We're almost at 400 affiliated to Singapore, although this includes people in other regions who just want to have some share of sarahcoldheart's scintillating prose.

Things are going well .... except for possible problems on Nov 3 & 4 Wrtie-ins. See the Write-ins topic for that. I've requested the Council Room for those two days from the Arts House people but don't have any real hope that we'll get it. Other venue suggestions? Please post in the Write-in topic.

Are the write-ins at the Arts House on Old Parliament Lane? Haven't been there before anyhow, but hopefully will make it down this Sunday afternoon.

You should all have received the latest email from sarahcoldheart, particularly of importance as there's a vote on setting up another outside forum while the slows on the NaNo site continue.

In the meantime, if there are any major announcements, such as venue changes or time changes, I'll post them up on www.singapore-novelists.com/nanowrimo.html

The site will definitely crash tonight with so many WriMos logging on, many for the first time this year. Don't worry, it'll come back at some point.

Just a little housekeeping note: Usually this topic is locked to all but the MLs but because of the Slows we've lost most of our ML superpowers. So please don't post in this topic otherwise people will think there's a new announcement. If you have questions PM us, post in another topic or set up a new topic. Thanks :)

Hey Rozen - has to be my Irish mate from Swinnie in Melb. Your talk last year inspired me and I'm doing this too - so is Anne. So you alone can take credit for the fact that I'm getting less sleep than ever and stuck here in a dark room while outside the Sydney sunshine is lovely. I've sent an email
Thanks for inspiring others to do this
Di

Latest weekly pep email went out last night. If you didn't receive it then you need to edit your profile.

sarahcoldheart has uploaded the pix of the write-ins and Kick-of to flickr and is working on getting an emergency forum for Singapore for when the NaNo site goes to sleep.

Other news is the Mini Write-a-Thon on November 18th. I'll be posting a separate topic for this soon. You have to be proactive about this people! Let us know how many are coming so we can get the food sorted out. The time is noon to 6pm, you can stay all that time or drop by and leave again after you've written a minimum of 1,000 words (we'll have the wordcount police there). The location is Clementi. The full address goes out only to those who email that they are definitely coming.

And yes, I am Didie's Irish mate from Swinnie in Melb *waves to Di*

Emergency forums are up!!

http://p068.ezboard.com/bsingaporenovelists

Mind you, it's a free board so I'm not really sure how it works exactly since the last time I used this brand was like... years ago... BUT! It is up! Try to sign in as your nanonick so we won't be confused! I repeat, it is the emergency board!

Also, here is the link for the Nanowrimo albums for now:

Anyone has more pics, just zip it up and send to either of us!

Thank you, dear WriMos, for all your kind words during ML Appreciation Day.

As a present for ML Day we got this link: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/widgets

Go have fun with it. Our Singapore Novelists website is now a mess as I've plastered links all over it. But I just love this stuff.

PS: Forgot to add that if you want the personalised version of the wordcount widget then you need to change the code to .../LiveSupporter/... instead of .../LiveParticipant/...

Now my head is officially spinning -- and not just from the cough medicine I've been prescribed for the *splutter-splutter* cold that I have right now.

The Singapore figures are doing my head in! So much so I'm liable to go into my own dialect of English called Norn Irish.

Anyway ... the Author Search is back and being a former accountant I like to play around with figures, a very creative profession by the way.

- Affiliated to Singapore are 471 WriMos, the list I keep updated on Excel and use to track down and send out welcome PMs to Newbies

- Location of Singapore are 204 WriMos, including a lot whose names I'm seeing for the first time because they're not actually affiliated to Singapore.

- Home Region Singapore has a total of 148 WriMos because that's what they've set as their home region but some aren't included in the Location of Singapore because of creative descriptions of Singapore that don't include the word "Singapore".
It's great to be creative, I love it, but can you follow the example of ProtoKnightBlazer and do "The Knightblazer Hideout, Singapore" or Lily_Gypsy "Singapore (in all its sweltering glory)"? It would help my head to calm down a bit and actually find people for pep PMs and Welcome PMs and stuff like that.

NewMexicoKid (Tim Yao, bless 'im) has written a program for analysing stats and Singapore is up there on http://naperwrimo.org/nanostats/. The Active WriMos are those with at least one post or a word count and for Singapore Home Region that comes to 98. The rest of the figures there are just doing my head in -- again!

(Okay, so if you haven't figured it out yet I got Making Money for my birthday so creative writing and figures are high up in my consciousness right now.)

Over to you, ziyang, on the For the Record thread!

Write-a-thon aka write-in marathon pics are up!

Also remember we'll be at Kino doing a reading instead of a write-in this Saturday!

LAST WRITE-IN FOR 2007 IS ON THIS SUNDAY!
