If at all possible, I'd like to have a pre-nano get together so we can get to know one another and maybe talk about what we'll be doing this year. I was thinking maybe we could meet this Wednesday evening (8pm-ish) at Badass. This would also give us a chance to check out a potential write-in spot. Anyone interested?

Yeah--except, bad news, Bad Ass hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. "at first." The guy I talked to said they would be expanding "later."
Other than that... the coffee is good, if you load your Bad Ass card with $50 your first beverage is free, there are plenty of outlets for plugging in laptops, and they'll have wi-fi "in a few days."
Here's another alternative, just in case. The Monterey Public Library is open until 9 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights, and they have free wi-fi. No coffee, though.
Neither Marianne nor I checked to see if the Starbucks inside the new Safeway (a) has electrical outlets near the seating, or (b) falls under the 24 hour open policy. And wi-fi at Starbucks is never free... but it isn't free at Borders, either, and we've met there a time or three.
So, oh fearless leader, make an administrative decision and tell us where to meet. :)

OK, since that one won't work, let's do same date, same time at Cafe Noir. In the mean time, I'll try to swing by badass and see if we can get them to sponsor us (meaning stay open late enough fpr us to have a good write-in.

I'll probably be over there earlier than 8 o'clock, staking out a spot in the upstairs. If you don't know me... look for the geezer chick with long brown hair, glasses, and a Compaq laptop with a red NaNo sticker on the lid. :)

Hi Deb,
Sorry to hear that you missed tonight, but it is great to have you on board. Our next meet up will be the kick off night, Nov 1st (location to be determined later). After that, we'll have official write-ins on Wednesday nights at 8pm (location also to be determined later). Great to have you on board this year.

I hate my work schedule. I work nights and take an evening class so Wednesday is the only day that's good for me and wouldn't you know it, I get scheduled for 12 hours shifts that day. Hopefully this will only last the next two weeks or so. Sorry I missed everyone last night.

Three things:
1) I'm new to nanowrimo
2) I'm new to this area...just moved to Salinas four months ago.
3) I'd like to meet up, but don't know if I'll be able to.
If you are still looking for a place to have a write in, The office where I live has a great party room with two large tables, chairs, a fireplace, and a kitchen. We could bring the coffee. I don't think they have wifi, but there are outlets. Let me know how this works and if you're interested. I could reserve the room every Wednesday for our group.
Talk to you later

Hello Angela,
Welcome to the group, we are glad to have you. Congrats on signing up for nanowrimo too. You are about to embark on a fun, scary month that will be very rewarding.
Thanks for the offer of the write-in space. I've already made arrangements with Bad Ass coffe in Seaside to have them host us through the month. If we have any problems with them though, it will be good to have a backup.
I hope you can make it out for the write-ins. We'll be meeting on the first, followed by every Wednesday, tehn a final write-in on the 30th.
Pop into some of the other threads and tell us a little about yourself and what you'll be writing.
