Hi everyone. I just joined NaNo. I would like to know if there are any writer's groups in our area. I am from Modesto. Love to hear from everyone.

What's up? So hey, I'm the second to admit to being in Fresno.
Yes, admit. I really mean admit. And this is my first actual Nanowrimo attempt.
Ok. So... I don't want to travel too far too often... but I'm available to meet up with people mostly on Mon and Tues. I have an odd work schedule which may change some too soon. So if anyone would like to set up a writing group, those are the easiest days for me. Daytime or Nightime.

There is one writing group that I know of but they are closed to new members, including me! I'm Modestan too. I personally like to fly solo. This is my first NaNoWriMo attempt. I'm not sure how it will go, but am jazzed!!

I'd love to be involved in a writers group. But, I live in Bakersfield and I don't think I can travel around a whole lot. ^_^;

I just joined too! I'm in oakdale. I am hoping some groups start up around here. That would be great, and helpful. Have you ever done this before?

I'd love to join a writing group, but unfortunatly I don't think my mom would let me. Curse you, overprotective parents!
Though I suppose these lovely forums are *almost* as good as a writing group....almost....
And I'm from Clovis. Which is totally better than Fresno =P

Hey Nightfoot. Your parents aren't being over-protective. I'd probably tell my child No too if I had one. I know you're not a child, but they are just concerned. The internet is full of all sorts of crazy pretenders and I'm sure your parents don't want you to fall victim to one of those types of people. Maybe we can form a MSN or Yahoo or something group that can meet online. While we may not get much talking done... it may help us get more writing done. Consider your parent's situation. Now... as far as Clovis goes.... LoL... yeah, sometimes I totally think Clovis is better than Fresno... Then at times I think they just mesh together and there is no telling where one meets and the other ends. Besides... I went to the most bad-ass school in Fresno... or well, the school that had a great percentage of Fresno's bad-ass teenagers ( <---feel the sarcasm, be the sarcasm....) .... FRESNO HIGH SCHOOL!! (Home of the Warriors.... or battleing students... depending on the day) :) No really, it wasn't really too bad a school.... Great teachers in my time. Miss them. Oh look at me ramble when I'm supposed to be sleeping.
So hey... writers groups... Fresno/Clovis area.... or well, how about a kick-off meeting? you know... for the all... 2 or 4 of us in this general area. Come alive people.

Well, I'm seeing quite a few Modesto people. I live in Ripon, which is about 10 minutes away.
Maybe we could set up something.

I, too, don't like to travel much. I hooked up with the Piker Press back in 2002, and we comprise a writing group that meets twice a week online. The Piker Press is a weekly ezine that was founded just to keep NaNoWriters writing. We've gone worldwide and get an average of 7000 hits a day, but the bunch that meets online are just there to encourage each other. Well, and to hang around the water cooler (or the bar) and remind each other that writing is fun, and that ... well, we just like being writers.
I'm in Ripon.

Hi Aser--- I'm in Modesto, but work in Stockton (3 days a week at a law library) At some point in all the fun, I'd love to meet any NaNo locals willing to do so--perhaps sometime this month, before the madness begins in earnest? Or whenever....
Read ~Half-Crazed Hedge Shaman~ this afternoon---laughed so hard, dh came to investigate...."Thought writers were supposed to suffer....." he mumbled from the doorway, observing me titled back in my chair, laughing with abandon.
"That was then," I gasped, wiping my eyes, "THIS is now!"
Thanks to you and Phoenix and Brucedeuce, my courage is well in hand and I can't stop smiling.

Hey dearie, Aser, I too read yr blog and you have a rare sensitivity coupled with a keen percipacity and deft turn of phrase. I guess I'm technically a "NEWBIE" GROAN UCK ICK! as this is my first attempt at NaNoWrimo. . .( the others consisted of clicking on the website and then zooming away LOL)and a published poet and writer thru the years.
Kudos on yr NaNo tenacity for the past seven years, and I hope to embark with no expectations.
HuGz with sympathy & joy,
Jomaine

Good luck on your first NaNovel! Sometimes I think the main reason I can't resist doing this challenge is that it feels so good when I stop.

Hello.
I'm near Modesto, a few min away. (though I'll be paranoid and not put the exact city)
I would like to try and get together every once in a while to work together.
I don't know when I could as I'm really busy, but Mondays and Wednesdays might work.
There a bunch of places we could have it too, like a Starbucks or something.

Well, seeing as there are quite a few people from the Modesto area, I definitely think we might be able to get something together.
Maybe we could go to the Borders in Modesto?
There's a nice cafe area there that would be able to accomodate for a small Nano meet-up.
A Starbucks would work, too...but those are usually a bit small.
I have a pretty tight schedule with school and work, but I usually get at least one day off a week (although it varies each week).

Sounds like Fresno has a "group"!
Unsungjackass, your username made me cackle. I think there's a lot of writers who can identify with that name ... I know I can. I'm loving being a writer, but my loathing of telephones and being sociable severely limits my writing marketability. Hence I remain "unsung" and well, I guess my personality renders the "jackass" part. My best wishes for this NaNoWriMo for you!
And for us all.

Hey I'm originally from Hanford (just south of Fresno), but I now live in Turlock. I would love to go to a meeting. This is my second attempt at NaNoWriMo, I hope I actually get my story on the site this time, Stupid mid-terms!

Darn right Fresno has a group. We're small, but hell, we get the job done.
Anyhow, it's good to find a kindred spirit here on the boards. Being an unsung jackass can be a tough job some times. I'm just glad that I'm not the only one doing it. Anyhow, here's a good cold drink raised to all the people out here in the valley looking to finish a fine work of literary fiction this year.
I promise the eggs shall be counted first, and yet the basket shall remain empty.
Sense is senseless.

Hey. I'm also from Fresno-- despite the misleading e-mail name. Who knew it would be more than a login name? I mean besides those who read the directions when they signed up. I'm totally new to the NaNoWriMo thing and very excited to get going.
I like the idea of a kickoff meeting. I would also like to meet for write-a-thons at cafes. How about the first Thursday in November at a Starbucks somewhere in the middle of Fresno?

I'd love to do something like that but Thursday may not be possible for me. I've got work from 8 am to around 5 pm and then a pool game that night at 7, but I could be late to that unless it's a late meeting then I might be able to skip out early. Fri and Sat I work 12 hour shifts and am not available until around 8pm. Mon and Tuesday I'm free. Wed I will be busy. Then Sunday is usually a busy day but I should be able to make something. Sometimes I hate my complicated schedule.
As for write-a-thons... how are Tuesdays? Any time. Mon and Tues are the only days I'm not battleing a funky schedule. Also Sunday nights aren't too bad for me either if it's 7 or later.
