I've noticed that a lot of the same people are posting in this sub-forum, anyone want to share "what" sub-genre you're writing, a few lines about their Nano work, and maybe a small bio? (sentence or two?) We're going to be spending a lot of time together over the next month or two. :)
My name is Istine. I belong to Romance Divas where my name is Cup. (lol--is that the sign of a divided mind, or what?)
I write romantic suspense.
...it's an action adventure set in Singapore--think Bourne Identity meets Kill Bill.
next up?

Well, you know me but I'll do it anyway because the others mostly don't. My name is AJ Chase. I also belong to Romance Divas and my name there is AJ Chase, lol. I guess I'm just not as divided.
I write primarily romantic suspense and series mysteries but I'm actually thinking about working on my first ever rom/com during NaNo.
A religious rom/com actually. The first ever one of those actually. Where a singles congregation agrees to be randomly matched for two dates among each other by a computer that was designed to match people with insurance policies. So we'll see how that turns out. Otherwise I'll just fall back on my comfort zone of romantic suspense.
Nice to meet everyone.

Well, I'm Andi (no, really).
I belong to a nifty site called Critique Circle, and have met many strong critiquers there. I plan to run my NaNo novel through the paces there once I have a second draft. Lucky, lucky them.
I'm writing what I call a Rospionath. More than you ever wanted to know about that is here in the thread I started: http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/1008922
It's a romance with espionage elements and thrill-rides. Think ALIAS meets Al Pacino in THE RECRUIT.
A wee blurb:
Shaine is the gifted clay sculptor and painter of the Death by Moonlight series, based on the demons of a painful past she has unwittingly allowed to define her existence. Known only as M. Dagget, Shaine avoids contact with the outside world by adopting personality and costume disguises. Unfortunately, she has a brother who decides his life is worth more than hers when he betrays her to a private organization whose objective is to assassinate its biggest contributor. The organization's best operative, Daren, is assigned to break through Shaine’s personal and sexual boundaries in order to turn her into an assassin.
Sickened and terrified to the core by what the organization wants of her, and by her growing feelings for Daren, Shaine agrees to their terms: kill or die.

ok I'll play.
My name is Missy and it's my 3rd NaNo. I have done Regencies the past two years and am again this year. I'll use my 1 sentence since I'm trying the snowflake method for planning this year.
A girl searching for answers from her past becomes entangled with a man who thinks he know all the answers for his future.
hee. :) A lot of action will be on board a ship, but it's not a pirate story....though I may have to throw a pirate in just as it's NaNo and well....you know.
Oh, I don't write full time, but it's kind of a secret dream of mine to do so.

Hello, I'm scribbles and I write romance. ^_^ I haven't really figured out much beyond that. I've always thought I'm a contemporary romance writer, but the last two NaNos I did turned out to have modern day faeries, wizards and dragons. I haven't had time to plan/plot this year (pantsers for the win!), but I've been getting impressions of... witches, curses and shape-shifters. o.O
Nice to meet all of you!

I'm Ashley, doing NaNo for the third year. Plan so far is contemporary romance/literary fiction, I suppose.
Title: Made To Be Broken
Basic premise:
They had been dating for three months. She was perfect; he was a drunk. She was funny and gentle, fiery and smart, capable and independent, and at times, he hated that he couldn't control her. He hurt her badly, she ran, and he never was able to find her.
Six years later, she's all grown up and back in town, and a chance meeting brings them together. How can he convince her to give him a second chance, to let him into her life? How long will it take for him to figure out the secrets she had kept from him all along? They don't realize until it's too late that life is too short not to take a chance on love.
Title: Jersey Heart (working)
Basic Premise:
Takes up where MTTB leaves off, but since I have no intentions of giving away the ending of that one, I'll leave it to your imaginations for now.
I have a heavy course load, and I mentioned this to my advisor, and he pretty much forbade me from doing it, saying I can't afford to screw up my GPA, but oh well. I'm going for it anyway, with a final goal of about 150K! Both of my novels should end up being between 70-80K, and I hope to finish both of them. I have major outlines going on, with the important scenes in pretty heavy detail. Can't wait to get started!

Hi! I'm Destiny515, and I write contemporary romances. I joined nano a couple yrs ago, but ended up not participating. This year I'll be working on the first of a trilogy. Though I have tons of notes, a rough sketch of an outline, I'm a true pantser. Looking to jog my creativity while getting the rough draft down on paper.

Hi, I'm Lisa, but you can call me Joan (see username). This is my second year doing Nano. I found it last year by fortunate coincidence just as I began writing a novel for a contest and...well, see the Success Story thread for how that ended up!
Doing Nano again this year is something I've been looking forward to for a long time. I usually write romances, which is why I'm here. I have a whole long list of ideas and no idea which one to choose, but I might just start on November 1st and see what pops out. It's been a while since I've allowed myself the freedom to just go without an idea of where I'm headed.

Hi all! I'm Sonja Foust ( http://www.sonjafoust.com ). I've had two short stories published at http://www.TheWildRosePress.com . :)
I've written some fantasy and paranormal, but this year I'm tackling a straight contemporary for nano. It's called Shooting Stars and it's about a female paparazzo who gets stuck on a ranch in Wyoming with a reclusive ex-star from the Hollywood A-list. There's lots of delicious conflict and a dastardly ranch hand. It's going to be lots of fun.
Can't wait to get started!

I'm Kate, and I'm a newbie. :D
I write contemporary Australian romance mostly, though all of my fanfiction is set in America (for obvious reasons).
I will be attempting to write a straight up romance about a young woman, haunted by the death of her fiance a week before the wedding, who finds herself coming back to life as she falls in love with a hunky handyman who her sister has hired to renovate her house.
It will be better than it sounds (hopefully).

Greetings All!
My name is Jessie and this is my first attempt at NaNo and a Novel - a newbie all around.
I'm attempting a paranormal romance about vampires. Yes, it's been done a million times but I'm still going to give it a shot because I can't get them out of my head. My idea came from the intent of taking something really scary (blood sucking vampires) and trying to rationally explain their existence by making them live in the human world without any supernatural elements. They can't hypnotize, turn into bats, disappear, etc. What kind of society would these marginalized people create in today’s world?
It’s nice to meet everyone. I love the story ideas that people have shared with us.
I hope you all are able to complete your novels.
Good Luck
Jessie

Hiya, I'm Adie. This is my 2nd NaNo but I'm new to the forums. I made it last year but this year my life circumstances are much different so I'm a little worried (though a lot excited!) This year I will be writing a romantic fantasy about two friends who both meet men who aren't what they seem (ooooh mysterious ;-)

Howdy everyone!
My name is Lorraine (well actually it's my middle name. In real life I guess, people call me Ashley). I'm 20 and this is my second year of doing Nano. I first tried last year and failed cause I lost the motivation to sit down and write. But it's OK! Cause that same idea, I'm reusing it and rewriting my tale.
I have lots of ideas floating around in my head, all contemporary. Some would be contemporary with a paranormal theme like witches and vampires...but not the series I'm doing first. The novel I'm writing this year is first in a series of three. I love the idea of arranged marriages/compromised marriage (omg, for a second I couldn't think of the term and kept wanting to say constipated HAHA oh my) but it's hard to write about that in a contemporary scenario. So basically it's your run of the mill one-night stand>pregnancy>marriage. Overdone? Maybe, I don't care. haha. Then the secondary character in this book will get her own story in the next one. And her hero's little sister who will make a small appearance in the second book will get her story in the third one. And then that's the end of the series.
My target is 50,000 – 55,000 words or 60,000–65,000 words depending on if I think it's more suited for Harlequin Romance or Superromance. That's where I want to get published at, so that's what I'm aiming for. Course, it's a hopeful dream and not reality probably. But if you can dream it, you can achieve it! hah.

Hey! My name is Liz, but online I mostly go by Lily. I am 23, and I am a four year Nano survivor.;) Last year was the first year that I actually finished the 50k, and this year I want to actually FINISH the novel, not just the 50k. The details are kind of sketchy, but here is what I have so far.
Sydney Young is a local journalist, and sports nut. She has three older brothers, none of which ever cared about sports, so early on her and her dad bonded over watching sports. She kind of wanted to be a sports journalist, but couldn't find the right place to break in to the field. She writes for a medium circulation paper as a the arts reporter.
Camden Harris was born to play baseball. His dad and his older brother both played, and though neither made a name for themselves they took their career's very seriously. Camden, on the other hand, didn't take anything seriously at all. He was gifted, knew it, and didn't mind flaunting it when needed. As one of the rising pitchers in the league, he and his cocky attitude are well known locally. He and Benjamin Walker have been best friends for nearly the entirety of their lives. They played in little league together, and Ben is known to be one of the few people to be able to catch Camden's notorious knuckle ball.
Sydney meets Camden while taking her niece on a tour of the brand new baseball stadium. Then something happens. Okay, so I still have a few weeks to figure that out. But at least I have the characters, right?

Hmm at first my hero was going to be a prince of somewhere, but I decided to make him a regular guy instead. So I don't think it will be exotic enough for presents, but we'll just see how it unfolds.
Presents always cracks me up with the titles though. No mystery what they are about haha. Like the current set has one called "The Mediterranean Billionaire's Secret Baby," now THAT is a mouthful.

I'm Rose, well not really but it's a nickname I've had for decades so it's close enough. I write modern romances leaning toward steamy romance.
I tried Nano last year, didn't get very far if my memory serves. I'm in better writing shape this year and am really looking forward to diving in.
What am I going to work on? No clue. Well, a small one. I have a couple stories I've started, then stopped for whatever reason. I'm thinking of picking one up and starting fresh and seeing where that gets me. At this moment I'm just not sure. Of course I'm also participating in Alison Kent's 70 Days of Sweat so I'm already working one manuscript, come November 1st I'll add the second. Yeah, I'm just that kind of writer crazy.

Hey All,
I'm Merris and this year's NaNo focus is paranormal romance.
My favorite vampires, the Ash Born, are making a bid to control humanity, the Warders are the only cohesive group that directly opposes them but there are not nearly enough Warders to slow the vampires progress.
Damien doesn’t look anything like a golem. Created hundreds of years ago to serve ancient priests, he’s grown beyond a simple stone entity and searches for the Cry of Souls to release him from the slavery of the binding spell that was part of his making. He would rather die trying to be free than let the vampires make him a slave.
Beautifully cursed, Lexi was the beloved of Jacques, an alchemist who wanted nothing more than to spend eternity with her. If he’d bothered to ask Lexi before he cast his spell and used his strange formulas, she’d have said “No”. Jacques didn’t survive the change, Lexi did. Now she can do as she pleases forever, as long as its dark. One touch of the sun’s rays and she’s a stone statue for the rest of the day. Lexi’s heard of the Cry of Souls, she’s going to find it and get rid of the curse Jacques put on her.
When Lexi repeats the words of the binding spell that ties Damien to her, she has no idea just how strong those ties are. What would it be like to have a sinfully handsome man obey your every command? Somehow Lexi has to keep her mouth and her desires under control while they both search for the Cry of Souls, a mystical treasure that is rumored to give great power to the one in control of it.
Two people, one treasure, a binding spell, and a city full of vampires, how can they not fall in love?

I'm Edward, but I often go by Katica online. If my mind were any more divided, I'd be three people, lol.
I write fantasy romance/homoerotica.
My NaNovel will go something like this:
Ishaan, 20, has suffered from sexsomnia since he reached puberty. He has unconsciously raped half a dozen people - women and boys - and was nearly hung for it twice. He is withdrawn and ashamed of himself, choosing to live five miles outside of town. he shares his home with one other person, his Keeper, who must lock him in his room before he sleeps, and only let him out after he wakes.
Roan, 26, suffers from Incubism, a condition which requires him to feed on sexual energy. He's a wanderer, refusing to let people get to know him and emotionally detached from sex, but he's tired of wandering, of being alone, and when he meets Ishaan it's like they were made for each other.
When Ishaan's Keeper wants to marry and have his own life, Ishaan hires Roan, who invades Ishaan's solitary existence and the two slowly form a friendship. Unknown to Ishaan, who cannot remember anything that happens while he was asleep, Roan takes advantage of Ishaan's condition, allowing the young man to have sex with him and feeding on the energy.
When a freak flood forces them out of Ishaan's prison and cuts them off from the outside world, Ishaan discovers that Roan has been allowing what Ishaan fears and despises about himself. Ishaan leaves, and without his evergy, Roan grows weak and desperate. When Ishaan returns, Roan nearly rapes him and Ishaan discovers what he is. Can they accept the darkest parts of themselves, or will their own self-hatred drive away the only person who could ever understand them?

streetmouse, I know, I just wish I could actually finish! ..hopefully before there's a glut. ::crosses fingers:: By the by, Shooting Stars sounds like the kind of book I'd curl up with :)

Hi, I'm FaithfullSpirit, most people call me Faith, though its far from my real name it works.
I've particated in the Nano since '03 and finished every year, though in '05 there was a technical glitch (I had trouble signing online to report) so I didn't get it reported in time.
I seem to be all over the board where sub-genres are concerned, and I actually write more young adult romance than anything, though this year I'm trying my hand at something totally new to me. Its comedy. If I pull this on off it will be a miricle.
