Just browsing the forums and saw that people in other genres were discussing themes and ideas and premises for this year's Nano. For example, over in the Horror group, zombies seem to be super-hot. What are you guys and dolls doing this year? Paranormals? Supernatural themes? What's undiscovered territory? BDSM? GLBT? Threesomes?
For example, I'm throwing a few around. One is a modern retelling of a Greek myth. Look at my username and take three guesses which one.
Another is a sort of furry erotic romance. (Hybrid furry/human actually). Those of you into furries will know what I mean when I say that.
And then I'm considering just doing a handful of short stories all of which are fantasy (genies, fairies, etc.)

In my story, humans as we know them are really a symbiotic species. Around about Homo Habilis, a race of beings that only barely exist on this plane, used us to hide in. They are what we think of as our souls. They re-incarnate when the body dies, but most do not keep much of a memory between lives. The "eaters" that were chasing them have had subtle influence on human evolution and culture to shape a more "tractable" prey. The whole "Go to the light" thing is a trap, to steer confused souls to that which would eat them.
The energy is built between two linked members of this group by sharing, or "touching souls." This is best done though very intimate and intense sex, which is why profoundly moving sex often causes people to say that they were inside each other's souls, that they "saw god", or that the experience was spiritual...because it is. It works with sex in general, but works best between those who are linked in some way. There once were pairs that had been linked though many many lives, and they had built a great deal of power, and even retained some memories. They led to stories of gods, of magic, of more than human heroes.
In at least two linked pair, they almost always re-incarnate in the same family, leading to many myths of incestuous god marriages. Which is where the taboo on incest came from, the soul predator's way of keeping the linked spirits weak and suppressed, and of stopping more couples from linking in similar ways.
Several tragedies led to these couples losing memory, forgetting what they were. I will start with them at that point, and work back through their shared histories, while at the same time working forward to a solution to the whole soul predator thing.
The story really isn't about sex, but sex is one of the primary elements of the story. I think of it as more SF than anything, but I suspect that it will read a bit more like fantasy, with the gods, magic, and history angle.

Mine's erotic fantasy about a girl who discovers that she has access to powerful magic, but that it must be activated by sex (but this isn't tantric, it's my own idea for sex-based magic). She ends up opposing (with a lot of other sex-mages) a group of mages who power their magic by death and torture.
This is probably gonna be my first few paragraphs, or something a lot like it:
I'm here to tell you a secret. It's a threefold secret, so follow along, don't get lost.
Magic is real.
Magic comes from love -- not sweet-cuddles-hugs-and-light love, but down-and-dirty-dear-god-one-more-orgasm-and-I'm-gonna-die-happy-but-still-die love.
And the last part of the secret? The more people you love this way -- one at a time works, but hey, all at once is better -- the more magic you can access. Heterosexuals and "pure" homosexuals -- those who enjoy sex with only one gender -- can never be as powerful as a bisexual can. And the more kinds of pleasure you enjoy -- no, the more kinds of pleasure you love -- the more powerful you are, too.
My name's Melody Kirk, I'm twenty years old -- and I'm the single most powerful mage on the planet.
This is how I got that way . . . .
I'm gonna have a LOT of fun with this!

Hello again, Pleasure!
The projected theme of my NaNo is acceptance of self. The story thus far --
Ishaan, 20, has suffered from sexsomnia since he reached puberty. He has unconsciously raped half a dozen people - women and boys - and was nearly hung for it twice. He is withdrawn and ashamed of himself, choosing to live five miles outside of town. he shares his home with one other person, his Keeper, who must lock him in his room before he sleeps, and only let him out after he wakes.
Roan, 26, suffers from Incubism, a condition which requires him to feed on sexual energy. He's a wanderer, refusing to let people get to know him and emotionally detached from sex, but he's tired of wandering, of being alone, and when he meets Ishaan it's like they were made for each other.
When Ishaan's Keeper wants to marry and have his own life, Ishaan hires Roan, who invades Ishaan's solitary existence and the two slowly form a friendship. Unknown to Ishaan, who cannot remember anything that happens while he was asleep, Roan takes advantage of Ishaan's condition, allowing the young man to have sex with him and feeding on the energy.
When a freak flood forces them out of Ishaan's prison and cuts them off from the outside world, Ishaan discovers that Roan has been allowing what Ishaan fears and despises about himself. Ishaan leaves, and without his evergy, Roan grows weak and desperate. When Ishaan returns, Roan nearly rapes him and Ishaan discovers what he is. Can they accept the darkest parts of themselves, or will their own self-hatred drive away the only person who could ever understand them?

Well, I've never been good at picking out "themes" and such, but I do have a plot idea (and an outline!).
Basically, this year's NaNo is about a 12th-grader named Kirstin who takes horseback riding lessons twice a week at this stable place. There is a really mean woman who works there, Sophie, who also (conveniently) lives next door to Kirstin.
Kirstin is, by nature, very submissive and shy, and Sophie is pretty much the exact opposite. Sophie ends up physically bullying Kirstin into basically being her slave, and they start a relationship with a "cover" of mutual bdsm, but it's actually plain and simple abuse.
Eventually Kirstin's friend (and maybe her teacher) will find out, but I haven't gotten that far in the planning yet. And I never plan the ending in advance, I like it to be a surprise even to me.

I'm still torn between an idea I have for an erotic novel and one for a literary piece. The erotic novel is loosely based on the movie Notorious. In the movie, Ingred Bergman is contacted by a spy (Cary Grant) to go undercover and spy on her former lover, Claude Raines. There's tension because she has to pretend she loves him, when really she's falling for Cary Grant. Who could blame her. I want to take that idea and ramp up the sex, while playing with the idea of how sex can bind people together even more than love.
I'm still putting the pieces together, but I see three characters. A pair of CIA agents (one male, one female) who are madly in love with each other. The female is assigned to get close to a gun runner who may be helping a group of terrorists. He is into S&M so they get her into his inner circle by having her pose as a sexual submissive. Their is tension between her job and the man she loves, and this bad guy who is awakening dark sexual parts of herself. How can she turn this guy in when she is finding herself bound to him, and how can she be stirred so deeply by someone she doesn't love?
I've always loved the movie Notorious, but thought it would be more interesting if she was torn from her mission because she is falling for the bad guy, instead of for the good guy. I still need to work on it. I don't want to overwhelm the sex with too much plot, but I also don't want to ignore the story.

My story is an occult urban fantasy kind of about the "end of the world" (which is actually more of a big reset button in the story, things just get shaken up and put back together differently). The whole story is full of varying levels of queerness and BDSM. My main couple consists of a famous and sexually aggressive rock star who finds himself suddenly and very willingly in the submissive service of someone who is essentially "the Devil" in a nicer and friendlier package. There is also a spooky processing facility that produces very high-grade submissives, which operates under the guise of a music academy. There are two intersexed characters - one at the music academy, who was sold to its operators by his own father; and another one who is an experienced shaman and courtesan.
I'm going to let my imagination run completely rampant with the sex scenes in this, there's bound to be something there to get under anyone's skin and make them go "wow I shouldn't find that hot but it is."
The setting is in the relatively near future, in a time when "occultist" is the new "fag." People find out you're doing magic and they lynch you.
In addition to being really kinky the story also explores a lot of spiritual issues such as "good" and "evil" being a moot point because it's all a means to an end anyway and both "sides" are contributing something important. But hey, it's a dirty book, nobody's gonna be reading it for the moral arguments. XD
Done babbling about my NaNo now I promise! :D

My story doesn't really fit well into any specific category, but sex always ends up in my stories and it's usually fairly intense. It can get a bit graphic. Never nasty, just...graphic.
Anyway, the story idea is generally based on the idea that an emergency situation hits while some people (late 20s, early 30s) are working on a haunted house. The haunted house is just a setting. It's not a horror story or anything like that, and the haunted house is just a Halloween thing. The setting is just a way to get all my characters together and in a place where they are not exactly in their element.
One of the main characters is a survivalist and he has to try to get the group to work together and become as cohesive a team as possible to get through the initial crisis period and of course there are other conflicts that will come up.
There will be, as always seems to pop up in my stories, at least one lesbian, probably one or two bisexuals, and the potential for a threesome or two. There's always some sexual tension and angst that goes along with that. Hopefully it doesn't come out too cheezy.
My stories tend to have dark undertones, so it'll be a bit dark, touch on some difficult themes, and hopefully end a bit uncomfortably.

Mine is definitely a fantasy, centered around three women whose conceptions on the same night were influenced by "elementals" of air, water, and fire. They grow up together as best friends, and the story is supposed to show different aspects of love and sexuality as they experience them. There's some BDSM, and a bi-couple that's really only 2 people, just one of them can be either male or female as the mood hits. I like the idea of a threesome, and I enjoy reading them, but it doesn't seem to fit with any of my characters.
Claire is happily married, until she realizes she isn't (happy that is) after submitting sexually to an almost perfect stranger who'd been secretly seducing her for months. She learns that she's been hiding worries/concerns/feelings from both herself and her husband, and confronts him about all the things they haven't been telling each other. (She turns out to be a switch, and ends up dominating her husband.) Her friend Nichelle has been sexually active since she started seducing college students when she was still in high school, and has always been dominant, and in control, until she realizes she's never actually been in love. (She falls for an Earth elemental, and as they're dual natured, both wood and metal, they can be either male or female when in human form.) And I have no idea what's up with Sarah, but she insists on being the third best friend, and informs me she's not going anywhere until I figure it out. She starts out very shy and uncomfortable with her sexuality, and even when she starts being interested in someone, she doesn't do anything about it besides masturbate in utmost privacy and secrecy.
And of course, this is all complicated by the weird politics going on in the background with the Elementals, but that's much too complicated at the moment to fit on the erotic-nano description.

ali- That's a great idea. If you aren't married to the Haunted House element, have you considered a Hurricane as the element that gets all these people together? It's great because people are unable to leave, and there can be additional problems like losing electricity and needing scarce resources.

This is my first time attempting an erotica novel, although I've written a handful of stories and have a head full of ideas from steamy fiction I've read to get an idea of the genre.
My theme is not as evolved as some, but I know that I want to write about a female character who is professional, demure and shy on the outside but an entirely different person when she's being sexually promiscuous. No one would suspect the things she's done. The setting is going to be Washington, DC, with some scenes possibly late at night on the Metrorail train or something; because that locale is easiest for me to describe since I know about and commute within the area.
Because I'm a huge consumer of the technologies on the Internet, I'm going to incorporate blog posts and text messaging into my novel's format. The guys she plays with, she meets on the Internet on sexually-themed dating sites. I'm going to inject some suspense into the story by having one or more of the men be dangerous sorts, maybe stalking her, or maybe having one of her colleagues discover her exploits -- a man, and he may blackmail her or something. As you can see, my idea of what I want to write is very loosely based. I hope it will mature as I begin.
I'm looking to be kind of Jackie Collins-esque and not really aspire to literary heights for my first novel.
Any comments or ideas are most welcome. I'm not sure how to end it. Can an erotic novel have a happy ending? I'm still pretty stumped as to that part.
It's going to be written from a first-person POV, just as if the character is keeping a blog. Actually, to really mimic the feel of the story, I'd like to blog the story in reality, but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to do that, or if it's a bad idea, during NaNoWriMo. A "blook," as they're being called now. What do you think?

Well, it's almost embarrassing (not the subject itself but the fact that I'm actually sharing it)... I've never done erotica outside of the fanfic circles, much less posted or planned any in the hopes it would become a novel, but I am geared up and hopeful that this year will be different. :)
My story is about a 16-year-old girl named Henrietta who becomes addicted to phone sex. What starts as blackmail evidence for a friend becomes a constant hunger, for attention and the new pleasure it brings her. It begins in secret, as she is constantly left alone at home, alienated by classmates at school, and even used by her 22-year-old boyfriend for her body and her age. Things progress swiftly as the situation becomes out of control and dangerous. It begins the night Henry (Henrietta) makes her first call andends a few months later when she is caught by authorities.

I had two ideas, and decided to re-write something that I've started writing and got blocked on. I spread it out too much and lost sight of the point... I don't want it to be a serial. Rules? Who cares! I'm gonna write a novel. :)
My idea is anthropomorphic erotica... this human guy, with a dubious fear of certain dogs, ends up living at a resort for anthro hybrids. He's forced to confront his fears and sexual tendencies, while at the same time struggling with dramatic mental illness that has past trauma threatening to turn him into a monster, figuratively and literally.
It'll be packed with leather stuff, bdsm, and too many european foxes. And, it takes place in BFE Upper Michigan in the near, alternate future.

Mine's the continuation of a set I started a few months ago. 12 short stories that can be read separately or as a series. My MC gets a strange package from a globe-traveling anthropologist friend. Inside is a jewelry box with 12 smaller boxes inside. Each are labeled with a month and date. The boxes are empty until said date, when a piece of jewelry with that month's birthstone appears. When the MC puts the jewelry on and falls asleep, she gets whisked away to different places in history/geography. So basically, over the course of a year, she screws her way through history while she's asleep. Of course there's a catch to the whole thing...a mysterious riddle etched into the lid of the jewelry box that tells her she has to choose between Love and Lust. Enter the uber-sexy delivery guy that brought the package to her in the first place...
So naturally I've got to come up with twelve unique and interesting sex scenes without letting them get too stale and repetitive...I may have bitten off more than I can chew with this one.

Cross-posting from my journal, where I'll be posting the story as it comes along during November:
The story is set in the not-too-distant future. Technology has advanced at an ever-increasing rate, rocketing since the invention of the first self-replicating AI, which have a sort of idiot-savant intelligence about them. Society is much the same as it is now, though technology (in particular the internet) has fragmented large homogenous social groups into many smaller and more focused groups. Cybernetics has made conceptions of human form and self identity become a little bit lost. But at this point in time that sort of technology is only for the rich.
My main focus is on the coming of age. It's something that western society lost a long time ago, but it is still ingrained into the human psyche. Many other cultures have a coming of age ceremony. For some it's a song and dance, for others it's a week long ritual. It defines the boundary between childhood and adulthood. For men in particular it can be a very important time in their lives. Taking a stand and saying "here I am, I am an adult" can be a powerful statement. Without it many are left with a feeling of "is this it?", or worse, continue with their pubescent activities into adulthood.
So in this society, when a person comes of age (I don't know exactly when, let's just say "the age of consent" and avoid some minefields) they can enter into an arrangement with a couple who have already established a firm and lasting marriage. This person then becomes an "apprentice" to the couple. Of course, many shenanigans ensue. The apprentices are absolute newbies when it comes to sex. There will be a lot of lessons to be learned. Most of them practical.
I plan on having at least three couples and three apprentices. The characters will be quite varied in a lot of ways. Sexual orientation being a main factor, but I imagine that the inclinations of the apprentices will change quite a bit. Political, social and religious persuasion may be tested. Depends how much of the novel is talking and how much is nookie. But as for names, looks, orientation: I have no idea.

My story is going to be three stories/novellas. The basics - and that's all I have right now - is that the three different people go into a cookie bakery. All three come out with a fortune cookie which leads them on new erotic pathways. Most likely there will be strong alpha male types, and spunky female types. Vampires, werewolves and wizard/witch combos. I am working on a basic outline for all three right now. The title is going to be Fortune's Cookies. Or something like that :)
