Greetings! I read very little chick lit, but it seems my story idea is leaning that way. I originally thought it would be literary fiction, but the more I thought on it, the more I realized that it fit into a peculiar chicklit/momlit/light sci fi niche. I'm already struggling to find an agent for my previous Nanowrimo effort, so this time I know to have a market in mind before I even start writing.

What existing books out there are a kind of mom lit/sci fi? Are there any? The closest thing that I know of is the hilarious "Carpe Demon," but that is more of a mom lit/paranormal/humor bent. I'm not very humorous. I guess I like having a big inspiring message to my writing.

If anyone can point me towards any other chick lit books with this twist, I'd appreciate it. Thanks!

I'm just learning about chick-lit myself, but from what I've seen, ijust about any genre with the right tone and 'tude can be included in the [highly marketable] "chick-lit' label ;-)

Check out candycoveredbooks.com for terrific summaries and reviews of chick-lit of every sub-sub-genre, from trad to hen to lad to 'tec to paranormal to cooking to mystery.....

I recently read Girl's Guide to Witchcraft by Mindy Klasky (I think) It's chick-lit but not so much sci-fi more fantasy I suppose, but then Carpe Demon might fall under the fantasy umbrella too. I tend to view any book with a female MC set in somewhat nowadays with fantasy/scifi elements chick-lit. As long as they have to balance their "normal" life with their "fantasy" life. If the fantasy world is all there is for them I don't know if it's necessarily chick-lit.

Some of the best chick lit (with a real story & quality writing) is Jennifer Weiner ...Guy not Taken ....and she has a few others worth checking out....

Mine's a peculiar one too, but it's chick-lit - have you read anything by MaryJanice Davidson? You either love her or hate her (admittedly I love her) but she writes paranormal/sci-fi chick lit that's quite light and funny.
