OK... so I think that I've completely hit rock bottom on my power cord being in town in time for NaNo, so i'm probably gonna be slugging this one out manually... I know that a few people have done this before, so any tips on how to pull this off without dying?

We'll make sure to keep a contingent of fully-functional pens nearby just in case.
And don't forget the bonus of being able to write anywhere this year! You could write on the roof!

You're not alone! I'll be handwriting too. Mainly, I'm doing it as a means of getting into a pattern of handwriting extensively every day and improving my skills. All my life, my handwriting has sucked, and teachers have taken potshots at me over it. "You'll never succeed with such atrocious handwriting!" "I can't read this, so I'm not going to grade it" and so on. It's mainly the fault of my weird grip, but I've noticed as I keep a handwritten notebook that reinforcing certain habits has helped, and so maybe reinforcing these over the course of a whole month will pay dividends.
Go out and buy a lap desk. That way, wherever you sit, you'll have a hard surface to write on and a good angle on the page (yay ergonomics!) They can usually be found for less than $10. I got mine at Hobby Lobby for $7.
My plan is to do word count by line, add up lines at the end of the page to keep a running subtotal, and then transcribe everything I've done on one of my lazy days (probably Sundays, where I won't feel like getting anything more than just count) That way, I can be useful to the community in our ongoing word-campaign against the rest of the state.
I'll also have spare pens. Pilot is my favorite brand; I've got G2s and Bettergrips. I also have Papermates, which run out fairly quickly, but are leftover from when I had a Sam's membership. Can't go wrong with 10 boxes for $5. XD

I feel embarassed, because I found out tonight that my laptop can be connected to Clarissa's power cable and charged.
Perhaps though, I may do some parts handwritten for the experience?

I'm forced to handwrite this year...the pin inside my laptop that connects to the power supply SNAPPED OFF earlier this year.
I can't get it fixed, and I can't afford a new laptop by Thursday...so it's gonna be pen and paper for me. Which is going to suck immensely. :(

I'm in by hand this year. Laptop died. :-(
Oh well, I'm on the run so much this month that using the PC only part time just doesn't make sense to me. I'm going to write the whole thing by hand. I have a Five Star portfolio. It has room for a spiral on the right. On the left, there are 5 file folder pockets where I can keep all of my notes. I have extra spirals and a new pack of pens. I'm ready to write.
For counting, I bought a packet of those little square price stickers. I'll count the words per line, add them up and then put a sticker at the top of the page with the total written on it. This way, the total jumps out at me when I'm ready to add everything up. Okay, so I just wanted to add a little color. LOL I like colors.
Crawling off to finish research notes.
