Ok, NaNo's officially going to begin day after tomorrow!
This leaves the questions of meet-ups. The when is easy: all this month, we'll meet at 7 pm on Wednesdays and 3 pm on Saturdays.
However, when the next meet-up will be is a little trickier. Obviously, this Wednesday isn't a great idea for a big reason: it's Halloween.
I will not be able to make any meet-ups on the 3rd, because I'm helping with a big Halloween party. However, if there is interest in meeting, I'll set up a place (or someone here can jump in and volunteer a) a place and b) to be there to meet other people who show up).
Otherwise, how about if we meet at the Red Cup at 7 pm on Wednesday, November 7th?
A map to the Red Cup can be found here.
It can be a little easy to drive right by the place. There's a big green building in front of it, and it's across the street from a 7-11.

does it have to be at a coffee shop?
I will scout out some places and may be able to host the one on the 3rd.
Is it okay if I do N OKC or Edmond?

Can a newbie show up on the 7th. Not much of a writer , but I am going to give it the old college drop-out try.

The Red Cup would be a great place to meet... except for the inconvenient fact that it closes at 3pm on Wednesdays. It is open until 10pm Thursday - Saturday. Hours are posted on its website, www.redcupok.com.
So, where does that leave us?

Ok, we've covered before that I'm a serious ditz (not on this thread, but definitely previously...)
We don't have to meet at coffee shops, but they're preferable in large part because it's easy to pick up something small to eat or drink and they're intimate enough that we won't be hard for new folks to find.
Anyone who is participating in NaNo or who is cheering someone along is more than welcome at the meet-ups. No one has to be at all of them, and you can come to as many or as few as you like. I'll keep posting details for coming meet-ups as they're looming.
As for Wednesday, why don't we try Sober Grounds? I believe they'll be open, since they have an open mic night on Wednesdays. A map can be found here.

What about this Saturday? Is it happening? Is it still at the Red Cup? Still at 3pm?
And yes this is my first NaNo...
So if you could update me about that it would be great.

I haven't seen a lot of interest cropping up here for a meeting on the 3rd (though it's possible that people just haven't been able to make it through the site's assorted problems...although I have to say, this year Russ and company have been kicking ass and taking names where it comes to the site. And in a few days, everything'll probably be looking peachy again).
How about if we hit the Wednesday meet-up, and I'm going to look for somewhere good up north for the meet-up on the 10th?

Ok, I'll be there on the tenth then. I agree that they have done a great job for the amount of traffic they are dealing with on this site.
As to meeting up north I don't care (I'm to the west in Bethany)
See you there, I'll likely be the young guy with a laptop and no coffee.

So, if I understand correctly, there is no get together for today and the first one is this Wednesday night at 7 pm at Sober Grounds? I won't be able to make that one but most Wednesday nights are good for me. Does anyone live in the N.W. 50th and May area that maybe I could car pool with once you meet me and know I am not a homicidal maniac? I am not medically allowed to drive and some nights and afternoons I could get a ride there if someone could take me home. Also, what is the plan for next Saturday?

I live near MacArthur and Hefner. The only problem is that I work until 7pm and I don't know how many meet ups I'll be making. As far as the homicidal maniac bit, I'm not too worried. I can handle myself.

I live in the NW 50th and Meridian area and have to pass by you to get to most meet-ups. I could pick you up - like Kyle, I'm not worried about homicidal maniacs; I'm a writer! I have a little silver station wagon (currently full of tables and chairs from the Kick Off Party). I promise to clean it out first.
And there used to be a way to be notified of updates in a thread under Preferences. I don't know if it's still there because I don't like receiving notifications. Some of the threads I frequent are so busy, my inbox would get flooded.

Yay, they finally let me on. It's been soooo slooooow. Oh well, can't beat the price. :o)
Welcome to all the new folks. This is my second year. I won last year and intend to do it again this year. You just have to forget all the rules, don't worry about spelling and grammar and just write.
I'm off to a slow start. Only 3000 words so far. I shopped on the first (needed new jeans) and the second and third I went to Red Dirt Book Festival in Shawnee.
I'll catch up though.
I will mostly go to Saturday meetings cuz I live in Choctaw and I don't like driving in the dark.
I'm not very inventive with names so I'm really Pam Morgan in real life. Hope to meet some of y'all in person.

If I am able to get in a good nap after work, I'll see y'all down at Sober Grounds at 7 on Wednesday. How's everybody doing so far? I've been discovering that using a first person narrator is more difficult than I'd imagined--somehow, using first person seems to make it easier to write page after page of narrative, and harder to include dialogue and action.

I don't know if I will make it or not, we will see. My novel is going great! well, my word count is great, I don't know if the novel sucks or not, I am trying to not pay attention to quality as I killed my inner editor.

Yeah! I'm not the only one who is killing my inner editor (Well mine says "This is crap" more than it edits). I think the idea is to just tell yourself it doesn't matter if it is crap and just write, we can all edit later. I Hope to see you there.

Oh! I apologize- no sleep has made me erroneously state that the meet-up is tonight. My brain is processing today as Wednesday (which explains my word count matching end-of-day stats for today when I *always* write at night- may as well get a leg up on Thanksgiving though, I guess). It's tomorrow! Tomorrow is Wednesday!
And uh, *I* am jealous of your post count.

Lack of punctuation punctuated by lack of sleep is a truly poetic line, which, if it doesn't find its way into your novel somewhere, soma-drop, could proudly take it's place in a country-and-western song, somehow.

Wow, and here I thought someone told me Sober Grounds had closed. Glad they were wrong. I'm all down about going to the Red Cup since I'm there all the time anyway. But if we are meeting up tomorrow, someone post all the details here so I can try to make it. If not, I will certainly be there Saturday if I can find a place to toss my midget. I'm so glad someone talked me into this, then I can stop mumbling about the "book in my head"

Next week when I'm looking for ways to procrastinate, I'm going to have to re-write the words to "Check you for Ticks" to talk about looking for dangling participles and misplaced modifiers- who here disagrees with me when I say that the phrase 'misplaced modifiers' could or could not sound downright lewd? Not to change the topic or anything. It's two am! I have to be up in like... five hours! Woo!!!

I hope to see everyone there tonight!
I'm sorry about my lack of presence around here...site difficulties plus my job suddenly being crazy busy has made for not a lot of posting time this year.
Or writing.
Ugh, I'm so far behind! I know I'll make it, I'm just used to getting a running start. It doesn't help that I'm doing two things very different this year: I'm writing urban fantasy, and I'm writing in first person. I'm used to being able to jump to another character's perspective if the scene is dragging. Oh, well. It's best not to get too mired in routines, and that includes writing.
Since I know there's definite interest in having a meeting up north, why don't we also meet on Saturday at the Red Moon Cafe (13425 N MacArthur Blvd inside Legacy Bank. It's just south of Memorial. Map here. The Saturday meetings will be from 3 pm until we either go home or get kicked out.

Can't make tonight's get-together but will be there on Saturday for an hour or so... finally getting to meet up with all of you... that is, if you'll let an old fogie like me join all you young 'uns! ;-)
I'm writing in the first person, too. I've done it a couple times before and know what you mean about having a tough time NOT going to another person's perspective. But I'm finding that the more I get into it, the easier it's becoming. (Or am I becoming that person? Hmm...)
Still no title for the opus -- guess it'll jump out at me eventually. In my fanfic, the title usually precedes everything else for some reason!
Everyone have fun tonight!
