For all your light-hearted banter, jokes, teasing, etc. You want to let another team know you're going to thwap their asses with your word count? Emphasise it's your team for the win?
Here's your chance.
One request - please observe the general rules of behaviour on the board. It's one thing to point out that Team X have the mightiest writing skills and point and laugh at Team Y's efforts, but it is another thing entirely to single someone out as being pathetic, a waste of space and a crappy loser. No matter whose team you're on, or what your word count, that will earn you a Mod smackdown, and make everyone else realise that yes you can write like Zeus possessed, but you are a horrible competitor. Persistent bad behaviour and failure to listen, will get you booted out. This is meant to be FUN.
And with that, as we begin the slippery slope down to midnight tonight - the very best of luck to all of you, and may you all reach 50,000 words. Whether your team wins the War or not, the most important battle of all is you versus the 50K. The Word War is just the ice cream sundae post-battle.
Good luck everyone!

OK, cool we can post here now the thread's unlocked! (misunderstanding between me and Cybele over which threads were to be stickied and which locked, seeing as how I currently can't do it myself).
And here's the leaderboard as taken as close to 11pm 3rd Nov as possible (given the site threw a wobbly and I was half asleep then anyway):
1st --- People-y fiction --- 11212.6 words
2nd --- Fanfic --- 8027.7 words
3rd --- Magical Realism --- 6655.75 words
4th --- Supernatural --- 4656.3 words
5th --- Memoir/Creative Non-Fiction --- 4504 words
6th --- Dystopia --- 4418.5 words
7th --- Post Apocalyptic --- 2748.3 words

Holy giant word score, Batman! [passout]

You wrote 10K today? That's awesome, teammate! [bighug]
Now to set some music going and get writing myself! I've just navigated a bit that was hard to write (crap writing which will need serious editing), and hopefully I can get myself going now with the next bit!
Go team Fanfic! *cheers*

There will NOT BE a leader board posted tomorrow night - I am at a fireworks show and staying overnight with a work colleague, so will not be able to check scores nor create a board tomorrow night. (I actually fell asleep for 2 hours after the board tonight, and woke up - it's now nearly 2am, I've got to finish up online and go BACK to sleep [doh])

Hi Sammy. Can you remind me what the rules are for determining word count again? I remember reading earlier that it was going to be the average of the top two (or something), but I can't find that post again. Thanks.

I'm not Sammy, but this should help...
Click here to jump straight to the rules. It's not an average of the top two on each team, it's an average of the team as a whole! So everyone needs to do well on each team! :)

Well, here's my scores that I've kept track of:
All times are Central US time -- and I wish to point out that Saturday night / Sunday Evening (night of the 3rd / 4th) I did have an extra hour as the time reset, and the nearly 15,000 between the first November 4th update and the third November 4th update included a 6 hour Write-In being attended where everyone there (20 attended) was encouraging me -- or should that be incorriging me?
Not a day I got a lot done. I had to edit my final paper for one of my classes and turn it in, hit two job interviews, attend training for my January employment, and write an intro for my next class...
Oh, and you don't have to worry about my production slowing down, teammates... my personal goal is 350,000

Ever just look up at the night sky to watch the stars while thinking of something mundane? Yeah, me neither. Wasn't it Jim Henson who said, "Without faith, I am nothing," after all? Wait, no, that was God. Sorry, common mistake...

Mmm, I wrote the rules (based on word war rules between regions), when the teams were pretty much 2-4 people each. Some of the teams are now 5-6 people, but sign up has slowed down. You could always try and encourage a few more people to join your team, if it's small!
Averaging was just the easiest way to do it, because I knocked up a spreadsheet which has each person and their daily score (for 30 rows), and then each team and their average (for 30 rows - one per day, which adds up each team member's score and averages it).
Which means at 11pm my time, I can just run down the list of people, plug in everyone's scores, and voila, averagey-ness. Course I still have to work out who's top, etc., but yeah. On top of work, a total 4 hour daily commute, MLing, Mod-ing and writing a novel, I wasn't about to make things overly complicated when they didn't have to be :-)

OK, today's leader board!
But first, a little housekeeping. Two participants still have not posted a word count, after 6 days - the rules say you must update at least every 4 days, or you will be removed from the word war (unless you notify me beforehand, as one person did). And one person hadn' updated their score (but had written some words). I started typing up the leader board and realised that the two non-updaters should not be included (i.e. reduce their team's total players which I divide the total word count by). So I took them out:
REMOVED - ennui (Supernatural), blackberry_ink (Magical Realism), and HarpieSiren (Fanfic).
This didn't affect Magical Realism's position in 3rd place, although it brought them closer to Fanfic. But it did change Supernatural's position from 5th to 4th, and Fanfic jumped from 2nd to 1st! - so teams can change places, if you write enough!
Some people have had the same score (whether 0 or something like 20,000) for 4 days on my spreadsheet, but I'm aware that they might be in America, and not yet updated tonight (nearly midnight my time is 4pm California time). So if they still haven't updated tomorrow - bye bye to them too. I give slightly more than I should, time-wise, due to the timesones, but I said I take the scores at 11pm my time (England), and if I've had the same score on 5 days, that's enough to take into account timezones.
People at risk of being ditched are:
Talysia - Dystopia
jessi_rose - Dystopia (which would then remove Dystopia completely)
emmabrown - Pople-y Fiction
1st --- Fanfic --- 17157
2nd --- People-y Fiction --- 16493
3rd --- Magical Realism --- 13291.8

5th --- Memoir/Creative Non-Fiction --- 9090.5

I'm doing Naruto. I'd sort of planned on writing a post-KH2 fic about Sora, RIku, and Kairi getting back into the swing of things at home because they aren't enough good ones, until this bunny attacked me during the summer and would not let go. XD

Me? No - used Quizilla a handful of times to do quizzes set by other people, but never more than that.
Will check who needs removing in about half an hour when I do today's scoring. I just thought I'd post the potential removals in case they saw it, or people wanted to PM them and poke them into updating (but a friendly poke, obviously).
Can't say I didn't warn them then, between the rules thread and the warning here!

fic is also facing a one person loss, but one of the members has a very ambitious goal that's boosting their average. One large number in a group can skew the average score

The person we were in danger of losing has about 21,000 now after updating from 20,000, so she's not really bringing us down much. But no worries, I'm also friends with her and know she's a freakishly fast writer, and Thursday she plans on overtaking me at least!

Sorry this is a bit later than I'd planned - lay down in bed to be warm, and dozed off for an hour - well it was 11pm, what did I expect? [doh]
OK - first up, removals.
REMOVED - Talysia and jessi_rose. Which removes the DYSTOPIA team altogether.
So, the leaderboard!
1st --- Fanfic --- 18,786
2nd --- People-y Fiction --- 18,553.4
3rd --- Magical Realism --- 14,504.8
4th --- Supernatural --- 11,048.5
5th --- Memoir/Creative Non-Fiction --- 9,711.5
6th --- Post Apocalypic --- 6,577.6

Well, the good news for those that wish to make the failed attempt to catch me, is that tomorrow (the 8th, in the US) will be a slow writing day for me -- NaNo-wise. I was informed this evening that I received the wrong syllabus, and I have 4 (that's right, more than 3) 1500 word essays due TOMORROW, not Monday as I thought. I also have 98 pages of reading to get through and though I read fast (HP7 in 4:32), it will take about half an hour at least. Plus, job training test tomorrow -- and I'll be there for 4 hours. My friends complaining of my lack of being around so I must go to dinner (say, 2-3 hours) with them. I'm a gamer and my biweekly game night is tomorrow (5½ hours). So. 13 hours taken up, it's already 1:30, so there's another hour and a half... 2½ for sleep. 3 more hours for work, and say an hour for showering, breakfast and lunch all together. I have 3 hours to write. Bah.

It's all good etvulpesvelox. I'm just happy that we're keeping a steady pace. Let's keep up the work. I'm not sure if I will get any writing done today because I'm kind in a rough patch. I think I need to do some research and brainstorming.
