Hello all. Since the ML is my wife I thought I would burst onto the scene and say hello to all. I am hoping that Lancaster and Cumbria do brilliantly this year and I am looking forward to meeting with you all. So since the 1st November is a Saturday how about a first writing day write-in and meet-up?
Regional Word War Leader Table Update

Hi,

Thought I'd start a new thread for posting when updates have taken place as it's easier to just cross-post across all the participating forums.

The results from the 4th November have been calculated and can be found here:

http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/3095947#comment-3239799

If anyone sees any mistakes (and there were several in the last one) please PM me to let me know. :)
TGIO Party (Parties?)

Well time is slipping away and it must be time to think about the TGIO party already! There will of course be a Lancaster one, and if enough of you can get together in another area I'm happy to offer any help I can to organise something.
So, I think we'll start by finding out who's interested. For Lancaster I thought either the 6th or 7th since I guess you'll all want the last weekend of November for writing. I also thought it would best to have it early, maybe go for lunch, so people can travel to Lancaster from further afield if they want to.
So, the questions are:
Do you want to come?
Do you have a preference for Saturday or Sunday?
Any suggestions for a venue?
I hope as many of you as possible can come. It should be good fun and of course it's nice to see everyone when the pressure of writing is over and we can all actually talk to each other instead of desperately trying to up our wordcounts :)

Write-ins!

Gosh, with November drawing ever closer I think it's time to think about write-ins! I'll be arranging weekly write-ins at Lancaster again in our beloved Juicafe. We'll have a kick-off write-a-thon on the 1st so we can all get a good head start and then we'll have a weekly after work/school meetup so we can encourage each other, find out what's going on in everyone's novels, and hopefully get a good chunk of writing done away from the distractions of home. I'm thinking we do Monday evenings again. Any objections/suggestions?

It's also nice to get out and about, and November just isn't complete without the annual trip to Nero in Preston. Let me know what weekends are good for you and we'll sort something out.

Also, please feel free to use this thread to organise your own get togethers. For example if you're in Kendal and planning on taking your writing out to the chocolate shop for a couple of hours I'm sure you wouldn't have too much trouble convincing a couple of wrimos to join you (markie, we can get to the chocolate shop, right? :) ).

Current Weekly write-ins
Lancaster - Juicafe, every Monday from 5pm
Preston - Fishergate Nero, every Monday from 1pm

Star Kitten, what time will people be able to meet up from on Saturday at Juice Cafe? How will we know each other? Will somebody have a sign and wil they have our stickers?
Word War Banter

This thread is where people from different regions can get together and offer one another gentle 'encouragement'. Every participating region will have one and you're heartily encouraged to go and help motivate your regional neighbours.

Remember this thread is supposed to be light-hearted and a certain amount of jibes and name-calling is to be expected, but participants should still follow the main site rules about behaviour on the boards. The use of smileys to emphasise the jovial nature of insults is actively encouraged {:o).

OK, that said, this is war, people, and war isn't all hugs and kittens. We are pitting ourselves against our rivals to prove to everyone what we already know: Our region is the best, we rock, everyone marvel at the awesomeness of our word producing prowess. Go team! We have a title from last year to maintain! 100% win rate, and we're not giving it up!

[STICKY] Word War Rules

OK, here are the Word War Rules from Lottie. Please read them and then sign-up in the sign-up thread, not in this one please :). This thread is just for lovely lovely rules. Apparently they like their space.

Rules

Eligibility

You must live within the UK or Ireland, and be relatively close to the city or region you
wish to represent.

Sign-ups

Your ML will provide a "Word War Sign Up” thread on your local forum to track word
count. Participants will post ONCE in the Word War Sign Up thread by 8pm on 10th
November stating that they wish to participate.

The Regional Word War

You must update your word count every two days, on the even numbered days of the
month, by 8pm. If you are unable to update your count, contact your ML.

During the last partial week (26th –– 29th Nov), you must update your word count daily, by 8pm. If this isn't possible, contact your ML immediately.

If you do not update your word count on four consecutive occasions it will be assumed that you have given up and you will be removed from the war (unless you already have more than 50k) If you know that you’re going to be away and won’t be able to update, let your ML know so that we can prevent this.

You must input your final (verified) word count by midnight on 30th November. After
midnight, you will no longer be able to update your count.

Scoring

You may drop out of the Regional Word War at any time up to 8pm on 20th November without affecting your region's count. If you do not drop out by messaging either myself or your ML, you will be in for the remainder of the competition, NO MATTER WHAT!
During the Regional Word War there will be a regularly updated leader board on an external web site. I'll post a link to this board to each competing region as soon as I've confirmed it myself!

Only the official word count from the "Word War Sign Up" threads on the NaNoWriMo web site will be considered when computing the final score.
After midnight on 30th November, I will ask the other MLs from competing regions (or their designated representatives) to verify the figures before declaring a winner.

Results

There will be two prizes:
The city/region with the highest average word count.
The city/region with the highest proportion of winners from the starting participants.
The MLs will compare results, and when all regions agree, the results will be posted on the NaNo boards.

Banter

Participants are encouraged to engage in good natured banter with participants from other regions in the various Word War Banter threads. Banter should remain good natured and within the bounds of good sportsmanship. The use of 'smileys' in messages is actively encouraged.

Our God-like powers

MLs decide what "good sportsmanship" means.
We reserve the right to remove folks from the competition for any violation of the rules and guidelines listed above.

MLs are the final authority in any dispute or question about the rules.

Trophies

To be determined...

Good luck one and all.

Lottie
We've been invited to join the UK regional word war again this year. Last year we won fame and fortune by getting everyone who joined over 50K. It was a fantastic achievement by everyone who took part and I think we can do it again! Plus there's still the coveted 'highest average word count' title to aim for.
So, are we in? :)
Welcome!

Welcome everyone! Warmest hugs to returning wrimos and polite handshakes to newbies as we're not sure if they like being hugged by strangers and don't want them to think we have boundary issues and scare them off.
Nah, that's dull, warm hugs for everyone!
My name is Leigh, and I (with the help of my lovely assistant/hubby markie) will be your ML for the duration of the festivities. I'm taking over from Casey, who did a wonderful job last year but is sadly back in America now, and as much as she loved the cake shakes last year it's a bit far to travel for a write-in.
I'm based in Lancaster, but our regional members span from around Preston up to Kendal, and beyond, so if you feel you're ready for a stronger regional commitment than England::Elsewhere and you live in the general area we'd love to have you :o)
I think that's enough from me for now. I'll leave you to find your way around the new features and get to know each other, and I look forward novelling with you all in November!
