Congratulations to dal who, so far as I can tell (with the author search currently caput), has posted the highest word count for Kingston region as of midnight Saturday, Nov.3 -- over 11,000 words.

My latest procrastination effort has involved searching through each of the 113 people affiliated with Kingston region, trying to figure out which of them actually have Kingston as their home region, and who has posted word counts of any size so far. Exciting to see so many people I haven't met or heard from posting substantial word counts already -- and to see those I have met or heard from on the forums doing the same. And I only got as far as the M's. So if you think you actually are in the lead or close to and I've overlooked you please let me know.

Congrats to everyone who is getting their word counts up. I tried to update last night but couldn't because the site was down. I've just done it now (15,737). Going into this, I thought I would have a lot more difficulty reaching the 50K than I did the last time I tried NaNo, but it turns out that I can write faster than a speeding bullet when the pressure is there to do so. Must be a residual thing from my 'deadline' thrashes when I wrote for newspapers in the past! I've also discovered that not spending hours browsing the forums helps to keep me on track. It's difficult not to, because there are so many interesting things to read out there. I have tried to help a few people with title ideas and plot problems, but I've been very selective about what forums I get involved in, because otherwise I'll read it all and try to help everyone.

Good luck to all and keep on pounding those keys!

Thanks, Glenn (CrazyKeys) but congrats are better due people like MadMike with his 15k: As I said on Thursday night, my high word counts are an artifact of having "channelled" most of the first third of my story two summers ago. I'll likely slow down at the half-way point, like I did last year.

But I am happy mine is currently 18k+ as of the wee hours this morning (Sunday).

Indeed congratulations MadMike. I did not intentionally overlook you. (As I said, I knew there were some people who's word counts I hadn't yet checked.) Frankly, I think it's worth acknowledging everyone who passed 10,000 words in the first three days. So if I've missed anyone else in that category, let me know.

Wow you guys are all awesome.
I on the other hand have not written one word as of yet. I do have plenty of good excuses, and the next two weeks are going to be hard for me to get much writing done. I have a feeling that most of my writing will be done at the end of the month.

Hi, I'm a total neophyte at this but just thought I'd say hello. Every time I think of what I'm doing here I say "I must be nuts" (variations include "I must be crazy" and "I must be an idiot"). Then I write a few more words and think "Hey this is kind of fun." Which proves I'm an idiot!

I'm a 43 yr old female doing my first nanowrimo. I always used to joke about my "great Canadian novel" so this time I decided to give it a go. I have about 5200 words so far. I think it has plot holes the size of Lake Superior but it also has some sections of true greatness.

Make that true adequateness.

I must be nuts ....

Welcome to NaNo, and consider yourself in good company, if you think you must be nuts- have a look at my 'screen name' for this gig! I have so much going on in my life right now, volunteering to do another one of these was pure insanity, yet I'm writing like crazy (no pun intended- or was it? Is there a head doctor in the house?) and having so much fun doing it. I guess I need a challenge to get the creative juices going. Anyway, hopefully your attempt at a purely for-fun novel will inspire some other work of pure genius. And even if it doesn't, enjoy the madness while it lasts, there is enough time for sober rationalism during the other eleven months of the year.
