Hey everyone!
{This message is being cross posted in the Ottawa and Washington forums.}
Yesterday, I received a challenge from Washington DC. The capital of America would like to take the capital of Canada on in a powerful duel of writing.
We have responded with out terms and are waiting for a response from Chuck.
These are the terms that we have proposed:
We would like to propose the challenge as being two-part.
1) Total overall affiliated wordcourt
2) Average wordcourt per affiliated member
If we win, we want you to send us an mp3 file of your region singing our national anthem.
On the Word Count Scoreboard:
United States::District of Columbia
Total words: 1,512,850 (ranked 59 overall)
Average words: 11,637 (ranked 206 overall)
Canada::Ontario::Ottawa
Total words: 1,494,816 (ranked 62 overall)
Average words: 13,466 (ranked 89 overall)
So DC is winning in overall word count but Ottawa is winning in average words! So far the competition is a tie!

We burned down their White House once and now we'll burn down their word count.
Oh, and why do they think they can claim the term "America"? America is a continent (two, really). I live in Canada and am a Canadian citizen; but I also live on the continent of North America. Therefore, I am an American. I vote that we call them U.S.ians. Yup. That's my two cents worth (and it is more than their two cents too.)
For more information on the subject of "America", see I Am Not American lyrics by the Arrogant Worms.
Edit: If anyone is offended by this post, please take a deep breath and look up the terms humour (humor for U.S.ians) and sarcasm in the dictionary. I love my U.S.ian friends and relatives and I know they can take a joke.

As far as I can tell, DC is expecting us to chicken dance for them if they win (?!?!) No official word from the ML, but that seems to be the consenus on their forums.

HA! That'll be the day. We're more than capable of wiping the proverbial floor with their piddly wordcount, just as we were more than capable of burning their fancy little White House to cinders back in the day. I smell fear from down south... fear and something that has a striking resemblance to chicken.
Onward, Ottawa wrimos! Onward and upward, and forever twirling... twirling towards freedom!
...I got nuthin'.
Anyway, if we win (which we will), we need to figure out what we want DC to do to acknowledge our wordly superiority. I personally vote for a rousing chorus of the Hockey Night in Canada theme song from them. hehe

They already agreed to this as it was part of the original agreement.
Bilingual version I may add. (BTW Feel free to run over the DC forums and brag all you wish as I do not think any of them are brave enough to venture out here.)

They got caught in the crossfire of our word war against Naperville. I don't think they were expecting our sheer output. The marathon session we had probably didn't help them any, either.
Still, they made a good go of it and would have been pushing us if we didn't have the Napervillains to beat.
