I don't mean to whine, as I'm sure the objective solution to this is just to keep writing, but I just want to say I've broken 15K words and it seems so difficult to get to 50K. I'm not experiencing the "rush" I used to experience, when words would just flow. Frankly, I still don't know what's going to happen next, and I can usually write a thousand words a day if I'm lucky, but after that it's like my characters and myself are both exhausted.

I plan to keep on going even if I know I won't make it to 50K, though, but still, I feel like whining at this moment :P Sorry hahaha dito ko linabas ang whine.

I hope everyone else makes it to 50K though! Para at least I will just be a voyeur to your success :)

Haha napaisip ako sa thread title mo ah. I'm gonna edit this to fit the thread description. :) I hope it's okay if we make this an encouragement thread? :)

Most of us seems to be having a hard time writing a lot this year. Last year I got through NaNo like a breeze. I'm struggling so much this year, and it's not funny. =))

But we can do this. :D There's still time! :) Kaya tooooooooo. :D

Hey. Same here; I'm kinda worried I won't make it to 50k, because right now my interest to write is decreasing due to school. (DAMN SCHOOL. *stabs*) I'm struggling real hard. *melts*

We can do this! We'll reach 50k, Filipino Wrimos! Believe in the power of deadlines!

1. Chunk...the time. Try writing on set hours. Mine are from 8pm to...whenever I reach my goal. Which leads me to my next point.

2. Set a goal. Today I will write 3000 words. Today I will write 6000 words. Whatever you believe is achievable. For me, I try to write a sold 5K every day, and don't stop until I make the cut.

3. Worship Pomelo Juice. Screw coffee...it doesn't have enough sugar to push your sugar rush buttons. Heavily sugared juice may push you closer to the diabetic brink, but at the very least your flying fingers will help you make the NaNoWriMo count.

4. Wordcount is king. Screw all those grammar lessons you learned in Business English. Who cares if E.B. White and William J. Strunk are spinning in their graves. Verbosity is your friend...though you won't be saying that when you have to EDIT all your work later.

5. Live for the moment. DO. NOT. EDIT!!!!! Your internal editor MAY help the story get going, but after it does that TINY, prerequisite job...murder it. It will resurrect itself, so it's important to keep killing it under the mountain of text.

6. Make a playlist. This usually only helps music-motivated people like me, for whom music is pretty much a drug. But still, it doesn't hurt to have songs that call up your creative juices. My current love is Maroon 5.

7. It is okay to slack off...sometimes. Sometimes you need a break, to do the IMPORTANT slacking off - Assignments, Work, Sleep...etc. It's okay to interrupt your writing schedule to do those stuff, especially sleep. And if you YM a bit, that's fine. If you're too stressed to write, NOTHING WILL COME OUT.

8. The TV is your friend. Uninspired and in search of a plot twist? Channel surf. Chances are you'll find something to include in that hodgepodge of creativity you call your book.

9. READ. Just because you have to write 50,000 words doesn't mean you shouldn't have a steady stream of lit to keep you motivated. Try to read books that inspire you, or are close to the style you're using or will be using. Whatever! Just as long as you keep your head full of novel goodness, it's a-okay.

And finally...

10. We'll be here for you...when your wordcount don't move at all. We'll be here for you...like we've been here before... If it's not going as great as you imagined...the words used to flow and whatever...WE ARE HERE FOR YOU. Take tip number seven and spill how shitty you feel. Sometimes talking to someone can help trigger the brain juice.

May inspiration hit you. Like a big rig.

XOXO,
Solan of Solea

I've got this problem na I'm all hyped up when I start, but when I get to the middle part, I kinda start feeling na my work's not good enough. Na it would have been better if I wrote another one of my stories, and not the one I'm writing. It's not a good habit, stopping in the middle of a novel and starting a new one. I end up with so many beginnings but no finished work! I know I should stick to my current story, but what can I do to overcome this feeling? Any suggestions?

~.~ We have the same problem wtf.

Usually, when I lose my interest or my inspiration for my muses, I tend to stop halfway as well, leaving it hanging. And much to my readers' dismay, I'd leave a cliffhanger and like go back to it a year after.

But in such cases, I usually reread my work and then try to ignore my supposed plans for it. You know, like whatever comes up, I'll add it, no matter how random it is. If I have to, I'll go a complete 180 turn. It's much better that way than follow a pragmatic outline. Only when you reach the end, that's the time you try to at least tie things up, loosely or what. Sometimes, one would say that, by the time you reach the ending, it'd be difficult to tie things up. Actually, it's not.

I mean, you could always leave an open-ended work, right? Sometimes, it's more interesting that way. Giving your audience some space for imagination as well.

Hey, no prob with changing the subject name, hahaha :P

I try to reach over 1K words a day, though some days I really don't get to write, so I'm nowhere near half. However, I made a deal with a friend of mine - she and I won't stop writing even if we know we won't make it to 50K. We'll just try :)

Congrats for all of those whose word counts are rising up! :) I wish I had the "8pm till sawa" sched. Life keeps getting in the way ;)
