Anyone Else Visiting Camelot?

Well, my main novel, Dark Passion Play is about the reincarnations of Arthur, Guinevere, Lancelot, Mordred and Morgaine. Uther and Merlin also figure in the story. It's set in modern London though, in the 2000's.

Though, they might end up visiting the original site of Camelot. Who knows.

I'm not really visiting Camelot, but I have based a character off Mordred, who, incidentally, shares his name. I really like the name Mordred.

I'm working with the general theme of betrayel and politcal upheaval that follows Mordred. It's a lot of fun, because my Mordred is in the Under Hill, or the land of faeries, after killing his uncle and his brother and doing something incredibly stupid and ending up in the Under Hill instead of being able to become conquering lord over his uncle's lands. Which would have been the entire country.

My Mordred is also a sorcerer, and this is part of his long standing argument with the Duke of Night, who sees him as a traitor (which he is,) and has specifically told him to keep himself and his "half-human witchery" far away from him and his house. They get into some brutal fights, and one of them dies in the end. (Yay betrayel and death theme!)

Does it count if the use of names is purposefully, pointlessly ironic?

My Arthur and Mordred are Pestilence and War of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse, respectively. Arthur has a feeling Mordred has no idea there's any connection between their names. He's probably right. Mordred's a bit off.

People make a lot of jokes in the vein of calling the hotel the Horsemen own/operate 'Camelot' and when invited for dinner refer to it as 'dinner at the Round Table'. Arthur is largely unamused by this, but he's a bit of a miserable wanker that way.

Sorry, couldn't help myself. I would hang my head in shame, but that's a damn fine movie.

As for Camelot, my Big Big Psycho Guy has named his castle that. I thought the irony would be appropriate, seeing as how it's practically hell in the Island Kingdoms.

Well, we're not exactly visiting Camelot, but it is mentioned in my book. Most of the first half of the storyline takes place on Avalon.

This doesn't have anything to do with anything, but damn, Mordred had *the* best death scene in the Morte D'Arthur. Peter Jackson totally swiped that for "Fellowship of the Rings."

I'm writing a book called For The Love of Guinevere right now. It is the classic, or mostly classic, story of arthur but told from guinevere's pov. My mordred is evil! Do you have him as arthur's nephew or son though? In mine he is the nephew but in some stories he is an illegitamite son between him and his half sister i believe.

I am, in a way. My story isn't going to focus around Camelot, but it will take place during that particular time period, and Merlin and Nimue are going to both be characters in the story. My main characters are going to be called Avalbane and Gadhelle, and are both ancient spirits with great power. Avalbane is actually going to pose as the Lady in the Lake, because of a forced deal with Merlin. I'm changing around the old 'Merlin was trapped by Nimue' thing, because it never really made sense to me. If the wizard knew what was going to happen, and knew everything that was going to go down, then surely he would have taken steps to prevent Nimue from trapping him or betraying him. I'm casting her as a real ally of his, instead of the typical 'she used him to trap him' thing.

Double post, I know. But I have to say, I just finished a (very) short story for one of my classes! It centers around the meeting of Merlin and the Lady of the Lake, where he bribes her into giving Arthur the sword. I've gotten rather bored of the same, gorgeous, perfect Lady of the Lake that I've seen in most stories, so mine is actually semi-evil. She gives Arthur the sword for selfish reasons, rather than to help him out.

I am an Arthur ADDICT. I'll formally confess to it later, I'm too busy right now.

I'm writing a short story for my novel-in -stories in which a large mistake is made on fate's part—King Arthur is a GIRL. Which seems to be the answer to all of his problems, surprisingly enough. No Guen, No moredred.

I love the legends, and I lave reading all the takes on it all. I tried to begin writing a story for myself, but I couldn't keep it going, sadly. I should try that again some time....
