OK people, I know some of you have been wanting this really, REALLY badly. This is the state of play on our local Word Wars:

As you can see, we're WELL ahead of all challengers! Crossing that 2 million mark just about made my day last week. I'm so proud of you guys I could cry! OK, that's going a bit too far, but we NEED to maintain and even extend this lead. I know we can do it!
The other region's word counts are not so pitiful they couldn't come from behind at the last minute (even though we have Jondi off the starting blocks now).
Cry havoc and let slip the keyboards of NaNo!

It's so funny that we're up against Louisville. My stepdad lives there, so I live there sometimes. Good thing we're winning!

Okay, we're up against W.H.A.T. (the Warmongering Hoosier Attack Team) and D.A.N.G. (Dayton Area Nano Group), I feel naked and unarmed without a proper acronym to hide behind. Spare a few creative brain cells from your noveling for a moment and lets have some suggestions.

Well, I guess if it is good enough for and sanctioned by the WORD WRANGLER, then it's by golly good enough for me! And it doesn't hurt that we seem to have a consensus on this also.

I just had to put the Eat Rite Diner in my story. Of course their monikor is EAT RITE OR DONT EAT AT ALL. Given the T day feasting, seems the Nano version would be EAT, WRITE, EAT, WRITE, EAT, WRITE............. Enjoy.

St Louis NaNoers..... Don't sweat the Indy group, they didn't even come to their own write in today. There's only one of them here, so they obviously have given up or just aren't taking this seriously. Geez, and they were the ones that STARTED this war!

Did you warn them you were coming to spy on them? Maybe they changed the location without telling you? (Does this mean we won't be seeing you tomorrow. :( )

I'm back already, it was kind of a "Drive-by Taunting" I certainly didn't warn them, and I'm fairly certain they do not have spies in our midst, so I think it was just a write-in with very thin attendance.
See you all tomorrow at Bread Co on Delmar!

OK people, in anticipation of Indy's defeat, and their forthcoming video tribute, punch out the last of your stories, wrap up those trailing plot threads, and clock in any word count you have outstanding. We already have a few PURPLE bars (Purple! Yay!), and it would be great to have all of you gathered on the winner's stand!
We're still pounding all opposition in both total words, and words per person, but Indy isn't far behind on the per person count. As a region, we've written over THREE MILLION words, which is a stunning thing indeed. That's the equivalent of 30 copies of the Merriam Webster dictionary!
It's the last week of NaNoWriMo! Six more days and we can all put down the pens and keyboards. Let's make those six days really productive ones.
For the Pointy Stick!

Indy is alarmingly close in words per person, we need to get on it. I would really like a clean win, not just overall words but sweep all three categories, total words, words per person and most purple bars!

We're back to more than 400 words per person ahead of Indy, but this is a close one. Everyone that can please verify your word count and post in the "Greeb bars post here" thread so we can count percentage of winners. The original bet between JWKrug and I was strictly for raw word count, but had no idea that we outnumbered them as badly as we do. It will be a hollow victory at best if they win both of the other two categories. And I would really hate it if they won the highest percentage of winners because all of our winners didn't post and get counted.

Well, Indy has 1 hour left and it looks like we're going to win words per person too. It will be very interesting to see how we do for percentage of winners. In perusing their forums it looks like one or two people wrote two novels like our WordMonster Michael did last year, but they may have posted them under 2 different names. In my opinion, thats not cheating thats being smart about your word count, but it also probably hurt them in the words per person category.
I'd love to do this with Indy again next year, they are a fun group. Perhaps for next year the creator of the marvelous word widgets can add a widget that counts winners and computes an average for each Region.

You guys are awesome, and not just in your GROWLy prowess. You've been great company this year, and I hope we can continue the challenge in '08. Admit it, you'll be so proud when our young region grows up and beats you.
With any luck we'll have totals in soon, but it sure looked like you were going to sweep us in all categories. I'm truly impressed, and I hope your TGIO rocks.

I think that after all the taunting and jibes flying back and forth, we need to give Indianapolis/Ibibenibi a hearty round of applause for being gracious in defeat and also worthy opponents in the competition. Thanks to all, near and far, for the challenges and the inspiration...of all flavors. May we all live long and write well.
Peace,
Cheryl
P.S. The regional wordcounts don't seem to have updated yet, despite its being more than 15 hours after deadline. The St. Louis region's total is currently showing (on my screen, anyway, even after re-logging in) as being the same as yesterday, 13,212 words below four million, and I KNOW it should be at least 12,344 words higher than that, because I wrote them myself. Anyone have a clue about that? Paul? Alison? Jen? Denise?

I just love that Indy came after us - a much larger region - and really gave us a run for our money. It was a lot of fun warring with them, and I hope we can do it again next year. Next year I'd also like to follow their brave example and go after a region that's much larger than *we* are. Just to see if we can do as well. Hey, there's 39 regions in the world with more words than we have - plenty to choose from. :)
