I confess that I am woefully behind in my word count...but even with less than 20K on the page this morning, I am bound and determined to finish by Friday at midnight (and it just might take until midnight!)

Anyone else in this boat and looking for encouragement to get to 50K by Friday? We're in the final stretch, and the adrenaline (plus a lot of coffee) is kicking in. I know we can all do it!!

Yep - me too. I've been writing like mad all weekend, and I'm determined to get to 30,000 this afternoon, but that still means I'll be writing a lot of words every day this week if I'm to get over the finish line.
But courage, mon amie! We will do it!

You can do it! 30K is not so far away...

I am hoping to hit 20K within the next hour. My stretch goal for today is 25K, which would mean that I wrote 7K words today. We'll see if I get there. (ugh)

Slowly, slowly getting there ... Still absolutely determined to get this done - and before anyone asks, without copying stuff from wikipedia to boost the word count! - and I have just managed to get on the right side of 3000 words today.

Here comes the pep talk:

Hang in there! To quote myself and probably many before me; there is no time quite like the very last minute! Hurrah for white writing, when all of a sudden a thousand words is only half a picture! Bum in chair, hands on keyboards, this is doable!!

Best of luck to you all!

every year, i keep track of my word count totals daily in an excel spreadsheet (anal retentive, i know, as it has the 'goal daily word count' in a separate column, and also the number of total words written that day, compared to the grand total...), and what is giving me hope and inspiration right now is that by this day in 2005, i had written only 11,000 words... and i still got to 50k by midnight on the 30th. we can do this!!!! (our husbands just might not see us until saturday ;)

Oh, that gives me some hope! I am a bit freaked out because I work both jobs on Friday, so I won't be able to give that last minute push. Thursday it shall have to be! I can do this!

One thing I did to push myself was to skip a page in my novel, and type up some ideas. I know I would forget them when I wanted to write about them, so I did that as they came to me. Since they are just short plot ideas, they do count towards your word count. This isn't cheating, because it is ideas and notes for your novel, and you can expand them as you have the time, or if you get stuck, you have an idea/scene to fall back upon!

I went back and deleted my ideas after I wrote the scene. Right now, even though I hit the 50,000, I have a whole page of mini-plots in a different file that I want to go back and add in - each one typically gives me about 3000-5000 words, so this novel has another 20,000 or so words in it.

Anyways, good luck! And you guys can so do it!

If you go to this link - http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/widgets - about halfway down, it will say in bolded red letters "Progress Report" - click on the words below, "View my progress report" and it will tell you how many words you have to write per day to make it :)

I've done exactly the same as Michelle - written things in note-form or included lines that I know I want in there, then gone back and written it fully when I had the inspiration for that particular scene. My story has some serious parts and some farcical parts, so sometimes it's difficult to switch between writing them in one evening.

Now I've passed 50,000 excluding notes. :D The story's not quite finished, but it's not far off, and I know what's going to happen. I am very happy indeed.

I reckon some of you can definitely make the target even if you're far behind now - sometimes that pressure is just what you need to push the words out.

I am still plugging away, and have also been making notes about what I want to go back and change later, ideas about new directions for character develoment or backstory, etc.. It always strikes me as funny how the perfect idea will come to me either after I've written a scene, or before it (but somehow, never during!)

Still hoping to make 50K by tomorrow night - figure I will be writing pretty much nonstop until then!! (I'm at about 33,500 right now...)

You're doing great! If you have AIM - you might check out the chat room - WrimoWars - they do 10 and 15 minute word sprints, and typically, people can put out between 500 and 750 words respectively. If you can do 3 of the 15 minute sprints an hour (allowing for time to see who wins and all), that's over 2000 words an hour! Do that 8 times, and you're done! And you still have time to sleep and eat!

Ahh! I'm so happy. I just finished my story a few minutes ago. I almost cried after typing the last sentence, I was so happy =] This has probably been the hardest month of my life. I was gone for about 8 days of the month and couldn't write when I was away. I had actually given up a few days prior to that week. But when I came back I got inspired again and wrote 30,000 words this week. It was crazy. But now I'm done! I did it! and I hope everyone on here is feeling just as happy as I am right now!

Congrats to everyone!

It comes full circle...I started this post on Sunday, with a lowly 17K but bound and determined to finish this darn thing. And now I just hit 49K and am coming for my nice, soft landing (a happy ending, of course!).

Congratulations to all the chick litters - you should all be so proud, however much you were able to write this month!
