The Final Countdown

A pep talk from a lowly overly-buzzed NaNo peon

The advent of the 5th week of the month heralds the ominous warning: 2 days left, people! Perhaps you needn't endure yet another topic about it, but it's been one heck of a month.

Much as I failed to see the point of motivation and competition for its own sake, I've somehow managed to be caught up in the infectious spirit and would just like to take this opportunity to encourage everybody who can to write as much as you can! We just blew past Edmonton and have our sights set firmly on Altanta!

I say we can be proud of what we've done thus far. Those who've piled onto the IRC channel for ye-olde word warring have risen marvellously to the occasion. Several of us first-timers look set to break that 50k comfortably, if we haven't done so several days ago. The encouragement from this community is pretty much on the whole superb, and it's heart-warming to see people from both within and without the region commenting on just how awesome we are :D

When I entered this challenge I didn't know what embarking on and actually attempting to churn some serious content from a novel would feel like, but now I can say that I do. I'm pretty sure this applies to many of you as well, regardless of how far you came (or how far you overshot the official goal, or your own). For those of us just hovering under the status of official winner (myself being one of them), I urge you, let us make this last push! We can do it, and be forever written in the annals of NaNo history! Again, even!

Long live this tradition, for allowing us to challenge and buck the trends of nay-sayers and real-minded people.
