Even though I'm only about half finished with my novel, when I look back to check a name or a date and see how horribly written it is, I find myself thinking about revisioning. Until now I've mostly focused on characters, conflict and plot. The writing has little style and suffers from serious white room syndrome. When I go back to rework it, I'm going to have to take off my story engineer hat and put on the literary hat.

This is where I need help. To get me into the correct mindset I'd like to find some good free poetry online. I am so amazingly ignorant of what is out there that I don't even know what to ask for. The thing is I have a very low tolerance for insipid half-baked philosophies or syrupy sentimentality... So, does anyone have any good URLs of simple honest lyrical poetry that you can share?

If you don't mind something that's witty but may have sounds of lovey-dovey-ness and or philosophical musings here is a list of poems by classical authors that should be public domain:
All of Shakespeare's sonnets (which are mostly about love, betrayal, and getting back together) (Sonnet #138)
Andrew Marvell- To His Coy Mistress
John Donne- The Bait (really all of them...)
Lady Mary Wortley Montagu- The Lover: A Ballad
Elizabeth Barrett Browning's poems
Coleridge
Yates

We (Tish [labrattish] and I) apologize that the poems we have given to you aren't necessarily lyrical.

Uhh didn't give a link ^^; just listed some poems/authors to use.... You should be able to find their work for free on the internet (was to busy to actually find the web pages, since I was going for 50k tonight and now have to work on hmwk due 'morrow) I have poetry on my deviantart account ( keijikunoichi.deviantart.com ) but... ehh... not really that good xD But if you want to use one of mine feel free.

Coolness.

I misunderstood, but I will definitely look that up when I start phase two of this project.
