FRESNO SCIFI & FANTASY WRITERS

I can't believe there's no group for this! (Is there?)

I am starting a monthly-ish group for face-to-face meetings to critique each other's writing. We'll hand out copies of our stories, and comment on them the next time we get together, and then hand out more copies, etc. We can talk about plots, character development (has anybody ever read Egri?), sentences & grammar & clarity, philosophy, conworlding, future tech (yikes), publishing (to web or not to web) ... WHATEVER WE LIKE, as long as it's about writing scifi & fantasy.

We can only learn to write better! And it'll be a great way to spend a few hours every month.

I've found a few other interested parties so far. Let's make it more! Our first informal meeting is 19 April 2008. Of course it is in Fresno.

Bakersfield - Gather Round, People!

Okay, I was just about to go insane hopping from topic to topic trying to figure out if the newest post was from a Bakersfieldian or not. So I thought I'd take some of the guesswork out of it.

I say, for those of us interested in a meet-up or a write-in, that we all put down two or three times or dates or whatnot that would be good for us and maybe we can come up with some sort of consensus on when and where we'd like to meet.

I'll start.

I'm generally good with Tuesdays or Wednesdays in the evenings @ 7pm or later. Also, depending on the particular weekend, I'd do my best to make a Saturday meeting if someone wanted to go that route.

Thoughts?

The Indigo 1479 N maroa. Small coffee shop, pull up a chair and drop in friday saturday or sunday (I work there those evenings) We open every night at five.

(Internet is down for maintenence, but you can still write.) Come join us, introduce yourself to Matt Bishop, the proprieter, or to Me, I should be making espressos there during some of the time. So, pull up a chair, and drop in. That's 1479 N Maroa, behind the old "tower" cafe (now called Au Lauc) And across from Food King.

My user name is Zulu (my dog's name). My real name is Juliana and I'm a first-timer. I have trouble writing at home, so I'm looking for a wrimo "cafe society." Will drive to Fresno, but IS ANYONE OUT HERE in Clovis/Academy? The Starbucks located off Highway 168 on these exits are convenient locations for me to drive to: Fowler & Herndon, Clovis & Herndon and Temperance & Herndon, and also the Starbucks across from CSUF on Shaw Ave. If anyone knows of a cafe out here that is not a Starbucks, that's great, too! Thanks.

Keeping up with the Quota.

How are you guys faring? Tonight, or should I say this early November Fifth, I managed to get to 4524 words. Out of what I was supposed to be at 6,668 words, I ain't keeping up too well. I'm still down 2,XXX words, which is about a day or two's writing.

I wrote so much today. All I did was slap on some headphones, turn off all the lights and went to work. Me and a friend of mine who goes by insanguinare do most of our writing later on in the day but we're still both below quota.

How are you guys?

Fresno Word Count Shout Outs

Over in the Bakersfield thread, it looks like things aren't going so hot as far as word count goes, so I was wondering how all of us in Fresno are doing? I figured maybe we could chime in here with our word counts (hopefully our MUCH higher word counts) and sort of egg 'em on to success.

What do you say? Can we out word count Bakersfield guys?

I'm currently sitting at 5,138 as of last night and will do my couple hours of writing late tonight (have a family b-day party to attend here in a bit that will tie up most of my day) hopefully ending my day with a projected 6,668 words.

Where are the rest of you Fresno writers at? Let's show them how it's done!

I was checking out LA's page and was wondering about how you all felt about Write-ins, Kick-Offs, Mid-month Meet-ups and a TGIO party. Now, I am new, and therefore totally unsure about how these things work.
