We wanted to make sure you all knew about the third-annual NaNoWriMo Night of Writing Dangerously Write-a-thon. This noir-themed noveling event will be held from 5 PM to 11 PM on Sunday, November 22 at the beautiful Julia Morgan Ballroom in downtown San Francisco!

All you need to do to raise $200 in sponsorships through GiftTool from family and/or friends by November 18. And if you raise $300 or more you can bring a guest!

Not only is this a great chance for us to see the faces of those who support us, but all proceeds from the evening make our programs possible, including the classroom-based Young Writers Program. I am interested in forming (or joining)a writers group in the Lamorinda/Berkeley/Walnut Creek area AFTER nanowrimo. Will need the company of writers to keep me on track. I am writing historical fiction.

Some possible locations -- Lafayette or Orinda libraries, La Scala in Walnut Creek, others?

Hi There, NaNoWriMo-ers!

Is anyone for a five week extravaganza at Le Bateau Ivre in Berkeley on Telegraph ( adjacent to Adronico's)? I'm thinking every Sunday from 11:00 a..m. to 1:00 p.m.? Le Bateau Ivre ("The Drunken Boat") has free wi-fi, good breakfasts; not-too-high prcies.

That would be November 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29.

I'm one of the orignal 21 NaNo'ers, have paricipated about three times, won twice. Need a support group this time! Still don't kow what the story will be, but hope to figure this out soon!

Walnut Creek write-ins, where are you?

I know the kickoff party was here in Walnut Creek, but I haven't seen anything involving write-ins or anything of that nature. This is unfortunate, because I'm already thousands of words behind.
There are roughly a dozen coffee shops here in the downtown area, and a couple diners, and... me. So what's the plan here, people! Let's do this! Inspirational speech! Training montage!

Some of my friends and I are hosting a write-in at Mission Coffee (151 Washington Blvd.) this Saturday, November 21 from 4-7 PM.

We'll probably have something embarrassingly identifiable. Perhaps a giraffe plushie...Hm.

Hello there!

When my 10-year-old daughter announced a few months back that she wanted to write a book, I said "well there's always NaNoWriMo." She was sold instantly on the idea, with one catch: she didn't want to do it alone! So we are each writing novels this month. Yikes!

Anyone else have a kid who is writing this month? I'd love to be writing buddies and share strategies for making it through the month together. We are both first-timers!

Cafe Milano has issues: Cafe Trieste is awesome!

hi,

so after the map and mingle event, i realized that cafe milano has issues. of course, no place is ideal, and those of you who still want to meet up at cafe milano on tuesdays, feel free.

but i'm not going to be there with the extension cord and power strip. setting that up, weaving the cord through a tree and fending my way through stressed out cal students cramming for biochemistry, plus the awful parking was just too much for me. candace (the berkeley based ML from last year) apparently made this work and didn't mind it, but I don't want to take it on.

so...if you want cafe milano on tuesdays, be warned that the set up is a bit much to get enough power. or you could charge up before hand.

I just checked out Cafe Trieste on Piedmont in Oakland, and that place has:

1. TONS of parking. a LOT, people. and by that i mean, a parking lot right behind the place. (plus street parking) and it's free after 6.

2. EIGHT outlets in two locations, on the SAME FLOOR! (no balcony dropping tree weaving action here!)

3. good food

4. good coffee

So I think this is going to be my nano haunt, toy mouse in tow (see my other post, "of mice and east bay wrimos"). (sorry for the double posting)

If I can get a few people on this thread to say "hey yeah I'd like to be at Cafe Trieste on Tuesdays from 7-10!" I will feel justified in sending a message to the MLs to add that to the calendar.

DVC Write-In

Hey fellow NaNoers!

I finally got a chance to talk to someone about reserving a room for a write-in at Diablo Valley College. If anyone is interested, we have a room on Wednesdays from 3:30-6pm in the Learning Center. The building is across from the Counseling Center and next to the Faculty Office building. We have room LC 109, which is on the lower floor, towards the back of the building (near the restrooms).

The first write-in is tomorrow, so I hope to see some of you there!

What's the write-in landscape look like for this year? Last year there were some at DVC and at least one that I attended at Berkshire Books out on Clayton Rd. I seem to recall Clayton Books was novelist-friendly as well. Everyone living in Mt. Diablo's shadow, say "howdy!"
