Not that I was really that good at playing golf!

The inexperienced golfer will treat a round of golf as playing 18 holes when an experienced golfer will treat it as 18 rounds each consisting of one hole. Likewise don't think of a novel as one book of 15 chapters, treat it as 15 books with each of them a chapter long.

One writing expert stated the very same thing. No book should have more than 10 scenes and each chapter should be like a book. I rely very heavily on outlines before I write. I was a dance teacher. Like you, I relate what I know to past experiences. For me, a manuscript has to flow as smoothly as a well choreographed dance routine.

Inexperienced writer here! ^_^

That's really good advice - I hadn't thought of it that way before. Thanks for sharing!

Writing is an improvisional dance for me. I can't handle outlines, they make my novel seem forced, like I absolutely have to rely on the outline. I write everything as it comes to me. I can figure out when the song's over and the dance must end.

I write what I know. In this case, I know band.
