Anyone interested in putting together a book club for writers? I belong to a book group, but want to critique writing and format and flow instead of the usual stuff (character flaws, the story, blah, blah, blah).

I write suspense, horror, thriller, but would love to read any book in any genre for form and function. I figure it all helps me write better, eh?

Just finished _The Five People You Meet in Heaven_ and am working on _The Best American Short Stories_ edited by Stephen King. I am also reading _Flash_ a collection of Flash Fiction. I finished _Shredderman_ by Wendelin Van Draanen (midgrade book) and _Sammy Keyes and the Hotel Thief_ by the same author (also midgrade).

I'll read practically anything.

Whatcha think? Any takers?

I would be interested in joining this proposed book club!

Are you proposing an online club or one that meets in person?

I'm in Sellwood and bus or bike (no car).

I might be interested... It really depends on what we're looking at reading. The book club I partake in now has been doing a lot of non fiction that that's really not my interest... I'm in Nob hill (NW 20th) and also am carfree

For me, it would depend on where, when and how often. I depend on trimet so it would have to be where trimet likes to run. Also depends on what would be read. I don't read historical fiction or romance (unless they are incredibly good) I also like the idea of reading/discussing books about writing such as Joseph Campbell's books. Let me know.

I'm interested. I read sci-fi and fantasy almost exclusively (as well as books about writing) but I'd be open to other genres. I'm brand new to the city and I'd love to get out and meet other writers, especially Wrimos. I live close-in SE off of Powell.

Hi all ~

In-person would be my preference. Once per month is what I think. I'm a fan of the face-to-face interaction especially as a stay-at-home writer. :-) Downtown might be a good thought (it's busable for everyone) or SE?? I'm in Milwaukie, but will be working downtown starting in October.

As for book selection, I think it would depend on the group. We can negotiate and vote. Older books, "the canon," newer writers, fiction, short stories - doesn't matter to me. I just want "beef" to the story/ies. For example, no graphic novels (altho I do love them), no poetry collections (love them, too) and no children's picture books (love Dr. Seuss and Good Night Moon). I prefer something that will illicit good conversation about writing.

Although I'm "leading the pack" on this idea, I'm open for pretty much anything.

Those are my thoughts.

Sounds good to me. I'll take any excuse to go downtown. :-)

Any ideas on where we might meet?
