[STICKY] Welcome!

Hi everyone! Welcome (or welcome back!) to the Idaho: Elsewhere forums and the nuttiness, the craziness, and the insaneness that is Nano.

I'm Thea, the ML for Moscow. If you have questions, suggestions, or comments, don't hesitate to contact me or the other Idaho: Elsewhere municipal liaisons if they happen to be closer to you.

The events calendar will be up shortly, so definitely check that for local Nano events such as kick-off parties and write-ins.

So with that, feel free to introduce yourselves!

(A bit about me: I'm currently a microbiology grad student at the University of Idaho. Which means I'm in lab most of the time and am no stranger to all-nighters. I've also done Nano since 2001. For the math-impaired, that means this will be my eighth Nano. Whether this makes me mad or just merely persistent, who knows.)
Twin Falls Writers: How's It Coming and Next Write-In

Hi everyone,

I just wanted to check in and see how everyone's novels are coming along. I'm at 18,405 words and I'm hoping to cross 20,000 tonight. Things seem to be going much better for me this year, largely due to the fact that I've been much more successful with locking up my inner editor...

So, who's up for a write-in this weekend? I can do Saturday at noon again, or go for some time on Sunday? Any takers?

Best wishes for super word counts!

[Moscow] Events Planning

Nanowrimo might seem like a big online event judging by the busy forums, but it's not all just in the aether--you can also meet real people too!

For those of you who want to meet other Nanowrimo participants in Moscow and the surrounding areas, there are several events planned for October and November. Please let me know if you have any questions/comments/suggestions (especially for times and locations) and if you're planning to come to any of these events. If you have any additional meetings you want to put together, drop me a line and I can put that event on Moscow's events calendar.

Without further ado:

Posting Flyers: I will briefly be at the UI Commons (in front of Common Grounds) at 10 am, Oct 4 Saturday, armed with Nanowrimo flyers and pushpins. Anyone willing to put flyers up around town is welcome to come, but I recommend you Nanomail me so I know how many people to expect.

Kick-off Party: Most likely, people will be able to make the weekends (Oct 25 and 26), so I'd like to get people's vote on preferred times and location suggestions. A) Friday evening? B) Saturday morning? C) Saturday afternoon? D) Saturday evening? E) Sunday afternoon? F) Sunday evening?

Midnight Kick-off: This is a new thing I'm thinking about setting up. We will probably meet up somewhere on Oct 31, 11 PM, start writing at midnight and continue on until about 2 AM (unless people want to continue overnight).

Write-ins: At the moment, I have a location reserved for Saturday afternoons during November. If people want to do Sundays as well, let me know and I'll begin looking into places to make reservations. I will mostly be unavailable on weekdays for write-ins, but if anyone wants to take the initiative to organize one on their own, just let me know the times and locations so I can put it on the calendar for you.

Again, drop me a line if there are any questions, suggestions, or need for clarification. Barring another site meltdown, send me a Nanomail or contact me via e-mail at syaffolee@gmail.com

I look forward to hearing from all of you!
Shoutout - How are you all doing?

Hi Elsewhere Idahoans,

It just seemed to me that our threads had all petered out, so here's trying to jump-start it.
How are your word counts coming?
Any interesting twists in your novels?

I've just reached 44,500, but as I'll be out of town without access to a computer for Thanksgiving weekend, I'm trying to hit that magic 50k before then.

I'm writing a YA romance. My main character left her love interest at home to go off to college. I was going to have her swept off her feet by a dashing college man, break up with her back-home beau, and marry bachelor #2. As it turns out, I'm liking the first boyfriend better than the college bachelor, and I'm wondering about her ditching the college boy to go back home.... Hmmm, decisions.

How are y'all doing?
----------

Hey, is there anyone out there that lives in or near Bonners Ferry, Idaho?

Hi,
I would like to find someone to buddy up with that lives nearby. I live in Bonners Ferry.

PS. (I am very glad that I get these encouraging Emails. My life has been so busy that I wasn't obsessing on NaMoWriMo this year and I almost forgot about it.)
Rexburg Write-In

There was a little discussion in the "Rexburg" thread about a write-in, and I'm wondering how many people would be seriously interested. This Saturday (the 15th) is a bit short notice, I think, but the next Saturday (the 22nd) perhaps?
If anyone is interested and/or could come on either Saturday, please let me know. And please let me know what hours you're available. We could easily snag an empty classroom on the campus somewhere. (People do it all the time to study and stuff. Empty classrooms are free for anyone and anything.) And anyone in the surrounding area would, of course, be welcome!

Anyone got any ideas (plot bunnies, snippets, random musings, interesting words) that you thought were interesting during the month of October and discovered that they don't work for NaNo anymore? It happens to me all the time!

Might as well get some mileage out of them. Post them here and see if anyone else will find them useful!

Are there any writers in the Rexburg area? It would be great if we could get something going on here. I know there're write-ins scheduled in Idaho Falls, but I don't have a car at the moment so I can't get to I.F. It would be great if we could put a small group together for this.
First Day Shout Out

It's now 42 minutes after midnight on the first day of writing. I don't know how many of you stayed up to write those first few words in the dead of night but I love getting started right at the stroke of a minute after. It's a treat I savor for months before NaNo.

Regardless of when you started, how did the first day go? How's your word count? Are your characters sticking to the plan you've laid out for them? Anything new cropping up yet?

I'm going to bed with 1053 words written. This gives me a good basis with which to start with tomorrow when I get up (hopefully not before 9). Hopefully I will dream happy dreams of characters not yet named (one of my main characters doesn't have a name yet) and fluffy bunnies (who may or may not bring plot ideas).

Happy writing!

REMINDER: Twin Falls Kick-Off Write-In

Hey to all Twin Falls (or surrounding area) writers. A few of us have talked about getting together for some write-ins in another thread, but I wanted to separate this reminder so everyone would see it. It sounds like a lot of people won't be able to make it, but hopefully we'll have a few. And we'll definitely have to get together throughout the month when more people can attend.

WHAT: NaNoWriMo Kick-off Write-In

WHEN: Saturday, November 1, 12pm-4pm

WHERE: Zulu Bagels/Java Jungle (on Washington)

WHY: To kick the first day's butt, consume loads of caffeine, and make our word counts HUGE!

WHO: All NaNos and/or unsuspecting friends welcome; spread the word!

See ya there!

OK here's the deal; I'm losing my mind. Actually I am but that's not the issue here. I have a question. 50,000 words in one month; does that mean that I don't put finger to key board except when note taking. All these events, phrases and descriptions are filling my mind but because it's so full they're going in then out again. I'm writing things down, I'm even taking a pad and pen to bed with me and when I wake up with and idea or inspiration I flip on the light and record it in ink on my handy dandy note pad. Again, addressing my question; is the literal interpretation of the rules, no actual writing of the story before Nov 1st.
This will be the third year I've joined in the celebration. I love the adventure of writing unedited for a whole month. It brings with it a freedom of expression not found in everyday life. For me, writing it a way of turning on the switch and restoring e

Welcome Pocatello!

Hello, fellow Poky-ites! I'm Julie, and I will once again be serving as your ML.

I'm currently pestering, nagging, and cajoling all of my friends, family, and acquaintances to join in the insanity of NaNoWrimo, and I hope you will encourage anybody who might be interested to join in the fun as well!

I'm currently looking into venues for our kick-off party. We'll most likely be heading to the College Market for our write-ins again, but if you have an idea for another place to meet for a gathering or two, please let us know!

I look forward to seeing returning NaNoWrimos, and I hope we get some new faces this year as well! :)

Coeur d' Alene WriMos.... UNITE!

Hello!!! This is my first NaNoWriMo, so I probably shouldn't start this, but oh well!!! ^_^;

This is for us, the WriMos residing in good old Coeur d' Alene and Hayden to discuss ideas and get write-ins and plans settled and ready. So for Morel, who sent us all e-mails, I thought it might be easier if we could discuss taht stuff here.

So--let the WriMo prepping begin!

~AtAKIRI~

A little about me: I've actually been working on a novel since December--although progress practically stopped in June. I'm going to try and start up again, although to tell you the truth, I haven't stopped thinking about it since I came up with it--it wasn't the story and plot and characters that were stumping me, but just the actual writing process. I'm looking forward to starting something different, though definitely not a main project. I am a student at CHS. Go Viks!
----------
~~Romulus will eat your soul; if Remus and Visigoth don't get his first~~
~~~You think my current novella is cool? I've got another book too. 481+ pages, size 12 Times New Roman font. Oh yeah, it rocks.~~~
Sanity?
In the years past I just hopped in and wrote, no planning just wrote the story as it came into my head. This year though I'm trying the plan and be prepared method. There's a side effect of this I didn't expect; I'm losing my mind. Honestly I go to sleep thinking and planning then one second before I wake up my mind is bombarded with plot ideas, paths and turns. Oh! and did I mention that I'm dreaming about it and my mind is whirling with it while I'm sleeping.
I ask two questions. A. Is this a normal, healthy process to writing? I mentioned above, all the past stories I've written have been off the cuff and impromptu. B. Am I going to be sane when this is over with? I could sure use an idea or two on how to get all this organized and gelled together into some form of manageability.
