So..the thought just hit me...introductions! Who am I? Who are all of you? Why are you in Vegas? How long have you been doing NaNo? Why do you NanNo? That sort of thing. ^^ I'll even start!

I'm Lauren and a student over at Le Cordon Bleu. I've lived in Vegas for 13 years now. Didn't have a choice when we came here, since I was 8, and eventually I intend to leave to travel the world. This will be my third NaNo and I first started doing it because I saw a friend on LiveJournal bragging about her experience the year before. ^^

an all night write-athon during Nov?

I know Nano puts on one in like San Fran... but I was thinking we could do it sometime in Nov somewhere a bit more locally? I know there are a million places in this town that are 24 hour, but I was kind of hoping to do it at a coffee shop or something like that since I know we do have some people under the age of 21 and that cuts out casino cafes. We don't want to get anyone in trouble.
I know (at least through online looking) It's A Grind Coffee House is suppose to be 24 hours, but who knows, (it's on Eastern) I know the first full weekend (the 8th/9th) would be good for me... it also will give all of us who have family in town or going out of town for Thanksgiving a good leg up on our numbers.
I have no problem arranging it, finding the place, if others might want to do it. I know some of us have family/work/etc obligations, so you could always come early in the evening or the next morning or leave anytime you want (this would not be a lock-in)

Let me know. I want to get the ball rolling on this.

Okay, I know you are all thinking I am crazy, but hey, if I can get something like 3000+ words in a night, I say let's go for it!!!

Tues night meetings....

Most Tuesdays in Nov a small group of us meet at Barnes N Noble on Rainbow. Starting Oct 22 (not tonight and not next tues) I know of at least 2 of us who are meeting, please come by. I am usually there by 630, others after 7 or 730P so please stop by, have a coffee, a brownie and talk Nano plans, make friends, laugh at the people in the coffee shop. Just have a good old time.

If you need directions, let me know. I can't wait to see old friends and meet new ones!!!!

By the way, I repeat, it starts Oct 22!!!!

Weekley meetings

Since everyone lives all over town and everyone has different schedules I am trying to get an idea of when people are available for support meetings and what side of town everyone is one so Laura and I can start locating areas for meetings so everyone can be a part of it.

Trust me support during November is badly needed to get us all throiugh it. Not to mention we make great friends during the month that last long after the month is over.

I am not sure of Laura's schedule but mine at the moment is that I usually work days from 6AM till 2:30PM so I can even set up afternoon meetings for anyone who would like them.

I am in the Rainbow and Smoke Ranch area so the Tuesday nights at Barnes and Noble will be a definiate for me.

I do not mind traveling however so that everyone benefits from the meetings and can get to them.

So, what side of town is everyone on?

What time is good for you?

What days are best for you?

New Yorker writing a novel set in Vegas but has never been there... yet

I've picked up a few research oriented books about Vegas especially during its hey days when the mafia ran the town but also a book about modern vegas and how its transformed. I have Greenfelt Jungle and Sin Sun and Suburbia. Anyone care to recommend resources for a NYer to get a good handle on the town and how it's different from other places?

My novel is about a Buddhist nun whose family owns a major Las Vegas Casino/Hotel. She's investigating the disapperance of her ex-husband who is also a suspect in a murder investigation.

Resources to add authenticity to the work welcome. Or any general comments/suggestions.

I am on a mission to find all those who have thought about writing but never heard of NANO.

I believe it is up to us to find them and to speard the word in our area.

So, I am offering a $25 gift card to barnes and noble or starbucks (Winner's choice).

To the person who can recruit the most new writers between now and Nov 1st.

The new writers mean just that NEW To NANO.

The Pre-November Meet and Greet

I would love to get us all together before Nano actually kicks off on November 1st and meet some new people and catch up with old friends. I am thinking perhaps October 25 or 26th, perhaps at a Barnes and Noble or area resturant.

Last year there was a kick off party that I hear was a lot of fun and helped get everyone ready to go.

So, if everyone is up for it I can start putting something together for that weekend.

This is my third year doing NaNo and though I recall hearing about one...sort of...I'm just kind of curious...I mean even the site rants on and on about how they send the ML's all sort os goodies to distribute as incentives and bribes for the people they tyrant...er...look out for...not that I need more silly crap...I was simply wondering what the deal was.
