Hello Fellow North Carolina Wrimos!

My name is Jess and I'm co-ML of Asheville. I'm writing to you, my NC Wrimo brethren, to challenge you to a North Carolina Regional Word War this year!

I don't know individual MLs of each region so I'm posting this on each region's forum. MLs, feel free to nanomail me directly to let me know if your region is interested in participating.

Haven't figured out what winners/losers get, so suggestions are welcome!

See you in November!

Warning: Plot-Vacuum Area

Hey guys! I just wanted to try out a post where everyone posted problems with their plot so far, so that they can vent and get suggestions! That...and I wanted to do it bad too. If you guys think this is too negative, we don't have to do it.

Before I start, a quick synop: My MC gets forced into being a volunteer to supervise a group of boys during a camping trip to Maine, which is a month long.

Right now, at 18k, he's still driving there, and I've written for four days and nothing is getting along. He's narrating every. single. event, and its so shallow and boring. And right now theres him, a fellow volunteer, and six boys. I don't even have names for two of the six boys, and so I just put (filler name) when I refer to them. I really need some plot ideas for something interesting while they get there, and then stuff that happens when they're acutally there!

Not only that, but my character's personality isn't where I want it to be. He is going to turn suicidal, and he's nowhere near that point right now.

So, it's really frustrating, but I'm only 2k behind, so I'm feeling pretty good!

What about you guys?
----------
Interview

This is for anyone who has been doing Nano for a while (sorry for all who haven't...though, if you would like to leave me some comments about your experience, I'd love them..)

But I'm writing a piece for my school literary magazine and would love it if someone would answer a few questions for me.
1.	How many years have you been doing NanoWrimo?
2.	How did you find out about NanoWrimo?
3.	What do you typically like to write about?
4.	What are some rituals you do before or while you write?
5.	What is the most challenging thing about writing and why?
6.	How do you keep from quitting mid-way?
7.	What is the most rewarding thing about NanoWrimo?
8.	How does NanoWrimo help new writers?
9.	What advice would you give to those doing NanoWrimo for the first time?
10.	What does NanoWrimo have to offer to struggling writers?
11. What is your favorite thing about the process and why?
12.	How does the Charlotte community support NanoWrimo Participants?
13.	If you could tell people one thing about NanoWrimo, what would you say?
14.	Why do you think it is important for teenagers to participate in NanoWrimo?
15. Why do you think it is important for a contest like NanoWrimo to continue?

If you decide to answer these questions, which I would then be eternally in your debt, please put the name of which you would like to go by in the article with your answers.

Thanks,
Taylor

Who are YOU?

Figured I'd start a this-is-who-I am thread cuz I don't wanna wait for things to get started to get started getting to know people... That make sense?

I'll go first....

I'm jojolafrite. Joelie IRL. This is my fifth Nano and it'll be my fourth to win (confidence is good, right?). I have three kids and a pet husband who is a Frenchy and just recently loaded us all up and moved us over here to Frogland for at least a year (probably two... maybe more). If you want to read of my adventures over here, go see my blog: jus2years.blogspot.com. I have a B.A. in French (minor in Spanish), an M.A. in Teaching ESL, and an MLS (Master of Library (and Information) Science). As I said, I am now a prisoner of the Gauls and so can exercise none of my degrees (well, except the French one, by default), but I do have three kids, am in the throes of feverishly finishing my next memoir, am training for the Houston Marathon (January) and am researching sustainable living so I can move back to CLT and have a big hippy farm where folks can go and live for a couple of weeks and learn how to be green little hippies just like myself (if you'd like to discuss cloth diapering/wipes, family cloth, bread baking, yogurt making, recycling, and all that other hippy jazz, hit me up with a nanomail, I love talking about it).

Well, there you go.

Now, who are YOU?
Karaoke in Charlotte area

Ok, I have only lived here a few months so I do not know my way around quite yet, but I am eager to find a good place to do Karaoke. Singing is actually my first passion, writing is my second. I am starting to have Karaoke withdrawal. I no it is a weird thing to be addicted to, but hey, here I am. Weirdly addicted to Karoake. I would love to meet some folks who enjoy it as well.

I know we are supposed to be preventing procrastination, but umm, if we're gonna procrastinate anyway, why not have fun doing it? :)

I had been doing this on my mac, and I stupidly hadn't saved it yet. I didn't notice the low battery, and boom. My computer died, taking my story to the grave with it. There is no trace of it anywhere on the computer, so I have to start over. I know it is my fault for not saving, and I should have saved, but it still sucks! :*(
Novel Title

Hey guys. I know it's not that far in the story yet, but I need desperately need a title! Right now if you look on my page it says that my story is ____ that is not a defect, it is what I put it as because I have no idea what it should be called! Maybe read the clip of it and the description and see what it should be. <3
Facebook widget

So this is the facebook application I talked about at the meeting:

http://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=6694828707

It isn't hooked up to this current NaNoWriMo, but it should be soon. If you put in your profile ID, then it creates a graph for your page that can either look ugly or fantastic (there's an expected progress line as well as your progress line, so if you slack off, it shows).

Good luck everyone, and I hope you aren't in a plot sand trap that I'm in right now.

Hey everyone!

I'm Regann, your ML this year! I am new at this, so please bear with me when you can; thank you in advance for your patience!

What I want to know from you is this: any feedback/suggestions you have for our Kick-Off Party, especially any preferences you have for the date. With November 1st being on a Saturday this year, there's an entire week of possibilities, starting with October 24th, up until Halloween night.

So! This is your chance to let me know what works for you. Now, I won't be able to accommodate everyone, but I will try to choose a time suited to the most people. Reply as soon as you can, because I want to have answers for this burning question as quickly as I can, so you guys can mark your calendars.

Thanks!
Nano story (stop me if you've heard this one):

A memoirist goes to an agents'/editors' conference in Austin to pitch her memoir about her first year in France as a poor person, but bombs. She has a few drinks (seriously, though, like only two). On the way back up to her hotel room, she and her writers' group buddies see an agent waiting for an elevator (she recognized him by the yellow name tag he's wearing). She yells, "Agent! Get him!" He smiles and makes a cross with his index fingers. "Get thee behind me! I only work with children's lit!" She rebuts. "Oh yeah? Well, I write YA (young adult)!"

He puts the cross down. "Really?"

And as both of their groups of colleagues/friends take the elevators to their respective rooms, the agent sits down on a bench, pats the spot beside him and says, "Sit down and tell me about it."

The memoirist, never meaning--EVER--to pitch her silly November hobby fiction... does so anyway.

"I want to see it. All of it. The novel, the memoir. Send it to me... but send the first one first."

The memoirist is dumbfounded and spends the rest of the conference stalking the Agent of Her Dreams.

But, when she gets home, the glitter wears off of the encounter. She's in the process of moving to North Carolina. And there's the pregnancy (hence the reason she only had two glasses--hey, don't judge, the kid is half French and is no stranger to wine). And library school. The poor novel to be sits untouched for nearly a year.

Thank goodness all good things come to an end. Like pregnancy. And library school. When things settled down, she revised the book, sent it to her writers' group friends in TX, and revised it again. Then, finally, with trembling fingers, she sent it to the Agent of Her Dreams, happy to be able to put "REQUESTED MATERIALS" on the envelope.

Then, she moved to France. And her mail did not follow her. Luckily, she had a fabulous neighbor who sent her a big package of all her mail, among which was her NC State Library Certification (useless in France, by the way *wink*) and an envelope from the AHD with her own handwriting on it. She prepared herself for rejection.

"Dear You. We'd like to see the full manuscript right away."

The memoirist had to dig her heart out of her stomach and prop it up on her desk. But she did as she was asked. She sent it. And she lived happily ever after....

Did she? Well, I guess we'll see.....
