TGIO Party (RSVP please!)

November. Oh, November. This has been one crazy, crazy month. My friends who aren't doing NaNo have barely seen me. My roommates even complained about it. If you're like me (and I'm guessing you are), you've probably spent a great deal of this month hiding somewhere with your novel, writing away like a fiend. This month you've worked on something marvelous, something magical, and something that may have even taken a life of its own. You've been working on a novel, my friend, and that is cause for celebration. And there will be one.

Enter the TGIO (Thank God/Goodness It's Over) Party. This event is open to anyone who wrote at least one word of a novel in November and whoever you would like to bring along for moral support or the like. So if you wrote one word, five, or fifty thousand, you are invited to this event. And so are your family members if you choose to bring them.

This event is to celebrate the huge ordeal we went through. The pleading with our characters, the crying, the sleep deprivation, the coffee pot breaking, the plot twists, everything you went through in November, both good and bad. But especially the good. YOU wrote (or worked on) a NOVEL.

How many people even START a novel in their lifetime?

Not many, I can tell you that, and THAT is why you deserve to be at this party. You did something that very few people ever do because you are a superhero. You are AWESOME.

This TGIO Party is going to be pretty rad. Here's what you need to know:

- This event will be held at Skyla's place, so please post here or shoot her a NaNoMail so she can give you an address and directions. Post if you definitely know you're coming, or if you think you might be able to come, or if you think there's even a slight chance that you may possibly be able to come. Let me know so I can give you directions just in case!

- This event will also be a potluck, so post with what kind of food you'll be bringing. If you're unable to bring food, that's okay, just let me know, you're still more than welcome to come.

- We'll have an exerpt reading part of the party! So print out a few pages of your novel (not too many) to read if you would like to.

- This event will start at 6 pm on Saturday, December 6th.

Greeley, you are amazing. And you deserve to celebrate it before you go back to your normal life. The only thing that's more fun than writing a novel in November is celebrating writing a novel in December. Okay, so it might not be more fun, but it certainly is going to be awesome.

See you there!

(Oh, and I'm bringing lasagna)

(And if anyone needs a ride, let me know!)

[/EDIT]

Countrymen, Novelists, Greeleyites - hear my plea! As some of you may know, Greeley has had an epic rivalry with Fort Collins by way of a NaNoWriMo war for the past three years. The score stands thus: Greeley: 1, Fort Collins: 2. Unacceptable! It's time we showed those silly LoCoFoCoNaNos who's boss! Sure, they like to boast that Greeley stinks - but we know the truth! The smell fortifies us! They like to laugh at the city surrounded by cows - but we laugh back, knowing that the cows serve as the first line of defense! They have been quite unsuccessful in invading Greeley and we know why!

Because we pwn them.

And this is the chance to prove it.

Oh, hear ye, hear ye: All those with an ounce of Greeley pride! Today is the day to join the battle! We will show Fort Collins who's boss! Armed with our smelly cows, we shall defeat them!

ABOUT THE CONTEST:

- If you want to be a part of the Greeley team, all you have to do is post in this thread NO LATER THAN NOVEMBER 12TH! You will not be able to join past that date - so be sure to post now. Right now!

- THE RULES are simple. If you have posted in this thread saying "I'm in!" or something similar, you are considered part of the Greeley Team. There will be TWO different ways to win this year - and yes, we can win both ways. #1 - We'll take a percentage of how many winners (those who write a novel over 50,000 words) each region has and whichever team has the highest percentage will win. #2 - Highest average word count per person.

- REASONS TO JOIN: There is an incredibly high finish rate for those participating in this contest. Much, much higher than the win rate of NaNo as a whole, which is only 14%. So, basically, there is a positive correlation between being part of this battle and writing a novel of 50k or more. Also, Fort Collins needs to be trampled upon because we know Greeley is the best. Plus, it's always fun to work towards a common goal and get to know people in both regions.

As a reminder - you must post in this thread to be part of the contest with a phrase along the lines of "I'm in!" or "Greeley for the win!" or something else that obviously states that you want to be a part of the contest. If you post in the forum with something like a question, you will not be considered part of the team until you tell us that you are, so don't worry, you don't have to be part of the battle if you don't want to.

Feel free to ask me if you have any questions and remember - NOVEMBER 12th is the deadline to join! It is also the deadline to drop out!
Events schedule

Hey, Greeley! So, as you may know, we're going to have events throughout the entire month of November (and the first week of December). I love events, I think they're a lot of fun. It's great to meet people in the Greeley region and events really help up the word count. There is an incredibly high finish rate for people who attend write-ins! Therefore, if you attend write-ins, it's very likely you'll write a novel of 50k or more!

We have two different types of events during November: Write-Ins and Socials. The primary objective of write-ins is to write a lot, so bring something to write with - a laptop, a pen and paper, anything that works for you. We'll be doing things like timed writing sessions, word wars, and novel-complaining if need be. Or novel plotting. Things like that. Socials, on the other hand, are mostly about getting to know people in the region. These are held at a local WriMo's house and we'll watch movies and play games and do a bit of writing.

SCHEDULE OF EVENTS: (you can also access the Greeley calendar via the Greeley Regional Lounge header if I copied the correct URL - let me know if doesn't work)

~*~ Write-In at Margie's ~*~

---- Held at Margie's Java Joint, which is located at 931 16th St, which is almost directly on the corner of 16th street and 10th ave (across the street from Frasier of the UNC campus). It's in the same building as The Book Stop. Let me know if you would like a ride to and/or from the write-in.
---- Event will take place from 3pm until 5pm

- Dates:
* Sunday, November 2nd
* Sunday, November 9th
* Sunday, November 16th (*)
* Sunday, November 23rd

(We will have an event on November 30th as well, but it may not be at Margies - it's the weekend after Thanksgiving and sometimes they're not open then)

----------------------------------------------------------------

~*~ Write-In at Panera Bread ~*~
--- Held at Panera Bread, which is located in Loveland at 1550 Fall River Drive. HOWEVER, we will have a carpool system going on! Michone and I will alternate driving because we love Panera so much. It's about a 20 minute drive. We'll meet for the carpool at the University Center, which is located on the corner of 10th ave and 20th street. We'll meet in the parking lot near the building on the side that faces 20th street. Please contact either Skyla or Michone if you would like to come so we don't leave without you. Also, if you could give us $1 for gas, that would be awesome.
--- We'll meet at the UC at 5:30pm and arrive at Panera at 6pm and write until 8.

- Dates:
* Thursday, November 6
* Thursday, November 13
* Thursday, November 20

----------------------------------------------------------------

~*~ Social at MsFrisby's House ~*~
--- Held at local WriMo MsFrisby's house, please contact either MsFrisby or Skyla for an address and/or directions. Also, Skyla is available to give rides if you would like one. If Skyla is unable to give a ride for whatever reason, she'll give you contact information for someone who can get you there.
--- Meetings will take place from 7:30 (If you're getting a ride with me, I'll pick you up around 7:20 or 7:10 in a location that we'll decide on) until about midnight, or whenever people feel like leaving.

- Dates:
* Friday, November 7th
* Friday, November 14 (*)
* Friday, November 21

----------------------------------------------------------------

All the dates marked with (*) I (Skyla) will not be able to attend. I'm going to San Fransisco for the Night of Writing Dangerously so, unfortunately, I won't be able to make the Colorado events going on during that time. However, I will appoint a very trustworthy WriMo to punch your NaNo Report Card so you can get credit for the events or any other thing you need punched and this person will also give you free stuff!

Also, if there is a day on the events calendar that you would LOVE to write on, let me know when and where you'd like to meet! I can add it to the calendar for you.

And thirdly - every Saturday I will be bravely venturing to our rival city, Fort Collins, to attend their write-ins at Panino's, which is a very yummy restaurant. The meeting starts at 11 and is a lunch-and-writing event. I'll be leaving Greeley at 10 so if you would like to join me, I have four spots in my car! Just NaNoMail me and let me know if you would like to attend. I'll be in San Fransisco on the 12th, though, so I won't be able to get you to that meeting, but the other ones I can!
Write like someone is chasing your fingers Saturday!!!

Hear Ye Hear Ye!
I hear by proclaim Saturday the 22nd of November as Write like someone is chasing your fingers day.

You may ask what is this strangely named day, but have no fear I plan on explaining it fully.

What is this?
A day where everyone's goal is 10,000 words. You have 24 glorious hours to let your word count go crazy. Let that main character buy a car or interrogate some fruit. It does not matter how you get there, just that you get there.

Who is this day for?
For all of you who are behind in your word count, and those of you who are just over achievers, in fact it is for anyone who wants to join and brag to all their friends that they have in fact made that epic word goal of 10,000 words in one day

Why on Saturday?
Let me answer that question with a question. Why not Saturday.

So if Write like someone is chasing your fingers sounds like something you are interested in, then periodically come into this topic and post your progress on Saturday the 22nd.
I look forward to seeing you all here bright and early on Saturday

~Michone
TGIO Party (planning)

Greeley, we're writing novels. That's awesome. And what's more awesome is celebrating writing novels! That's what the TGIO (Thank God It's Over) Party is all about. Celebrating! Whether you wrote 1 word or passed 50k, all are welcome at this event! It's a celebration!

Now, all we have to do is pick a date. So what works best for you? Friday, December 5th? Saturday, December 6th? Sunday, December 7th?

I'll probably be offering up my place to host the party so there won't be any charge and we can hang out as long as we want. It'll also be a potluck, so there will be food! And, as always, I am more than happy to give rides to those of you who need a ride.

Also, I'll be keeping an eye on Fort Collins to see when they're going to have their TGIO. I'll also be going to their TGIO so I can give you a ride to that as well, just let me know if you would like to come. They don't have a day set for theirs yet, either, so I'll contact them and make sure we don't stick ours on the same day.

Alright, so what day works best for you?
What's a girl to do?

I'm come across a little problem with my novel. I've added in a character that I don't know what to do with now that she's in the story. She's evil in a sense but I can't kill her off because I need her for later.

Another small issue I'm having is filling in the "fluff" chapters...
I tend to skip around a little...okay so I skip a lot.
I finished chapters 1-3 then started 4, 5, 8, 9, 10, 11, and 13... I need the in-between chapters 6, 7, and 12. (Yes, I will end in Chapter 13, just because I think it's a good idea and it'll be funny to see people with Triskadedaphobia jump and drop the book.)
I find that if I have an idea, it's easier for me to just jump ahead in the story and write out as much of the idea as I can right then, and afterward go back to where I was before the inspiration.

Any ideas on how to fill in the fluff chapters?
Any ideas on what to do with my misplaced character?

Since no one I know gives half a shit what becomes of my Nano project, and because I can reasonably expect you all to care at least a little I just wanted to say that my book is turning out just great. Week Three is very much easier than week two was.. There's momentum again and I'm getting my characters in a little trouble preliminary to the big finale.. Knocking out a lot of words again finally too, and still committed to (and succeeding at) keeping it lean and trim without padding the thing out. Much.

Anyone else having great success? Let's hear about it! If no one else does, waesa gives a damn.
Introduce yourself!

Whoa, it's that time again! Yet another NaNoWriMo is looming closer. Another chance to beat Fort Collins! ... *cough* I mean... another chance to WRITE NOVELS! Yay!

Hello, wonderful people of Greeley and surrounding Colorado places! My name is Skye (or Skyla, whichever you feel like is fine) and I am your Municipal Liaison for NaNoWriMo! What is a Municipal Liaison, exactly? I do whatever I can to help you write your novel! I'll be organizing events during November as well as the Kick-Off Party (end of October) and the Thank God It's Over (TGIO) Party, which will be in the first week of December. Not only that, but I will also be sending out pep talks and I am up for any impromptu write-ins or if you want me to hold your food hostage, I can do that, too. Whatever YOU need me to do to help you write your novel!

Anyway, now you basically know who I am, I'd like to know who you are! Feel free to post with whatever you want - a little bit about yourself, how many years you've participated in NaNoWrIMo, any thoughts you have on your novel, etc.

This will be my 6th year doing NaNo and I don't really know what my novel's going to be about. It will involve a vampire and a doctor and a lot of flashbacks and some "evil" magic. Something along those lines. I never really know.
Love for the ML

So, as we know, ML day was yesterday. I just wanted to start a little thread about how awesome Skyla is, and how much we appreciate her efforts in making November the best month ever! From setting up the write-ins, to the car pooling, to the free stuff, Skyla makes attending write-ins a blast!

Wizard Rock Concert - November 17

Alright, so, here's the deal:

I'm hosting a wizard rock concert at my work, The Discovery Science Center, on Monday, November 17th. I'd love for you guys to come, and it's going to be a blast. Here's the basic info:

When: Monday, November 17th
Where: Discovery Science Center (703 East Prospect, Fort Collins)
Time: Concert - 6-8pm
Dinner - 8ish-?
Who: The Whomping Willows
Justin Finch-Fletchley and the Sugar Quills
Price: $3 admission (goes to HPA and their car)

Come and enjoy a night of music before your midnight writings! Honest, it's a lot of fun, and it'd be a great thing to do as a break from writing, or to get some inspiration!

THE CATCH: We've got limited room at the center, so we're going to have to knock the numbers off at 40 people. If you RSVP with me (can be done through NaNo mail!), you're GUARANTEED a spot in the audience. If you don't RSVP and come anyway, you might be turned away. Don't let this happen!

lol, I just realized how much I sound like a commercial. Seriously, though, it'd be a lot of fun, and I'm already about half way filled on the RSVP list, so get your name to me soon! It'll take two seconds, and you'll have fun. If you want, you can come to dinner with us after the show. We're going to McCallister's Deli (next to Wild Boar), so you should come join us.

Remember to RSVP through NaNo mail, and if you've got any questions, concerns, etc, let me know. It's pretty close to I-25, so I hope you guys can come!
----------
Kick-Off Party RSVP

Hello, Greeley! NaNoWriMo is drawing steadily closer. The one thing I really love about NaNoWriMo is how strong the community is and ways we get to meet each other are through weekly write-ins during November and, of course, the Kick-Off Party!

Details:

When: Saturday, October 25th 3pm-5pm
Where: Margie's Java Joint (931 16th St - corner of 10th ave and 16th street by Frasier of the UNC campus, same building as The Book Stop)

What happens at the KO Party? I'm going to give you free things! I have official NaNoWriMo SWAG and it is awesome. I'll also probably have some novel stuff printed out for you to have and we'll get the chance to meet each other, talk about our novels, plan or avoid planning, play games - it'll be fun! A great chance to meet people doing the same, crazy thing as you.

If you are planning to attend, please RSVP in this thread or shoot me a NaNoMail. That way I know how many chairs to steal and how many things to print out. If you're not sure if you can make it, but you would like to - also RSVP. If you think there's even the slightest chance that you can make it - RSVP. And if you're reading this and it's five minutes before the KO Party and you haven't sent in an RSVP, you are still more than welcome to come. I only ask for an RSVP so I can get a rough number of how many people will be there. It'd be sad if we all had to sit on the floor or outside in the cold due to lack of me stealing enough chairs for everyone.

Let me know if you have any questions!
Kick-Off Party Planning / Weekly Write-In Planning

Hey, Greeley! I am here to gather your input! In the last week of October we will have a Kick-Off Party for NaNoWriMo! The KO Party will basically be a super awesome get-together where we'll get the chance to meet each other and get free things! I'll have, at the very least, free NaNo stickers and PLOT NINJAS! We'll get to talk about our novels, meet each other, discuss NaNo tips, and even play games! It will be rad.

So my question for you is:

1) Do you have a specific day or time you would prefer to have the KO Party?
2) Do you have a specific location that you would like to have the KO Party at?

This year October 31st is conveniently on a Friday, so I'm planning on going to the midnight KO Party for Fort Collins - they always have awesome events and I am willing to drive some people there if you want to go with me. So we could even have our KO Party on Friday evening before theirs starts if we so desire, or some other day.

~*~*~* Weekly Write-Ins ~*~*~*

Every week we would have a write-in on Sunday at 3 pm at Margie's Java Joint, which is located right by Frasier of the UNC campus. We'd just get together and work on our novels - and the sessions were really productive. People are always willing to help you with your plot and sometimes it's nice to get away from the house and write without distractions. I noticed that the majority of people who attended write-ins finished their novels - excellent!

We also had weekly socials on Friday evenings at a fellow WriMo's house. Those were mostly unproductive, but definitely fun.

My questions for you:

1) Is Sunday at 3 pm a good time to meet again? Or would you prefer a different day, time, or both?
2) Do you like Margie's as a meeting place?
3) Is one write-in and one social a week enough or would you like more on a different day of the week?

All input is greatly appreciated.

Also, November 12th to the 16th I'll be with Robin (Spleen, former ML of FoCo) in California - we're going to the Night of Writing Dangerously, so unfortunately I will not personally be there to host any write-ins. However, I do know people who would probably be up for hosting write-ins during that time, or we could always host an online write-in as well. Whatever works best for you.

Thanks again, Greeley. You rock!
COWntdown to Greeley's NaNoWriMo

Hi, folks. I'm Chad, from the Fort Collins NaNoWriMo group. I decided to help out over here by providing Greeley with its own NaNoWriMo COWntdown timer. Of course, that's only necessary because of all the COWs in Greeley.
