Daily regional word war counts

I don't know about the rest of you all but NaNo is mucking up big time. I can't get anywhere. But I keep trying. So I hope this works and if anyone wants other regions posted to compare us to, let me know by email. Hopefully this will work - I have my fingers crossed, frozen as they are right now, but crossed nonetheless.

TGIO party

I know it's odd to be thinking abou the TGIO party when we've just had the kick-off, but the further ahead it's planned, the better off we'll be.

Since we didn't get to the Mellow Mushroom for the kick-off, how about going there for the TGIO? I thought maybe a Tuesday evening, when things are usually a bit slow for most restaurants would be a good idea. Perhaps Dec.. 2? A dinner time party?

What do you all think? I want to know.
And it's over!

Well, it's over. The rush to 50K is done and the question is: now what?

For some of us, the answer is: finishing what we started; our stories are much longer than 50K words will hold. For some of us, it is: taking a break, then going back to edit. And for some of us, our answer is: chalking up this year's NaNo as something tried, perhaps not acheived, but with a lesson or two learned along the way.

For me, that lesson is: write every day. Last year, I thought I'd learned that lesson, especially with Deanna Raebourne's excellent pep talk. But I think this year, I learned it thoroughly. Out of all the days of the month, there were only three days I didn't write on, and that was over Thanksgiving (which we hosted). Now, starting tomorrow, I will write again and try to write each day so I don't lose the muse. My story is one of those that still needs to be told, and I can't stop to go back and edit until it's done. (So my internal editor needs to stay in her closet!)

What have you learned from this year's NaNo? What are your plans for the novel you've written? Tell us about it.
Castlecarver Wins Big!

Castlecarver, one of my writing buddies, is a sculptor in wood and now she is a NaNoWriMo winner, too! A very few days ago she had 37,000 words. At 11:00 PM she had 48,000, but she made it across the finish line tonight with her twelve year old son cheering her on and telling her she could finish her great story. She's worked so hard, I think she deserves a standing ovation, and I hope it won't embarass her to death if I start it off. Lets hear it for Sandi!

I didn't realize I had so many, but wow, I'm amazed and excited and can't wait to read it in January.

A new level of frustration

So, I went to open up Open Office last night and it asked if I wanted to recover the file that my novel was in. I was pretty sure I had saved it before closing, but wanted to play it safe. Well, it recovered an empty document and now my saved file is empty. I had finally broken 25k at lunch yesterday and now I'm back down to 0 with my wacky insanity turned to nano-dust. Will try to recover the file today, else, I'm done.

The 40K dance of joy

Post here when you hit the magic number, where it's all downhill from here.

I hit 40k last night at the Furman write in, where I was the only person in attendance. I procrastinated for two hours but suddenly the words started pouring out at 9 pm. I actually found that skipping ahead in my story revitalized it and got me away from the mundane stuff I was trapped in. Plus, add in a jellyfish sting and all sorts of things start happening.
So, how's it going?

Do you hate your novel? Love it? Are your characters taking over? Is your inner editor complaining too much? Has your plot taken an unexpected twist?

I'm having too much fun world building and introducing the characters, so much so that I'm nearly halfway through the 50K and am just finishing the first twenty-four hours! My plot looks pretty skimpy from here, should I even get to it before reaching the goal! I have so much dialog, exposition, and tiny, enlightening vignettes that I feel my story is mostly talking heads. I have one character that is trying to tell me that he's not a telepath, but talks to animals instead (I'm putting my foot down; I need him to be a telepath!), and another, supposedly temporary character, telling me that the area they're in really needs to rebuild the burned out Catholic church and he's just the priest to do it!

So, how's it going for the rest of you? Vent here and tell us what's up!

I live in Gaffney, and can never make it to Greenville for write-ins. Just wondering if some of you might live out my way. I'd love to meet some fellow writers, maybe have a write-in in Spartanburg. Anyone?
Furman Area Write-Ins

I have my eye on Thursday evenings. What time would be best for people on the north side of town? I was thinking 7-9 but would be equally open to 6-8.

This would be November 6, 13, and 20 in the music library.

(Please let me know if you'd be interested. Are there enough of us in the north?)
If anyone's wondering...

why my word count dropped, it's because I put my novel so far through the validator. And because of the discrepancy, I went through and used an actual calculator to add up my words as per Open Office. Guess what? The validator's a better figure. So my esteemed colleague from Spartanburg is in the lead again... for now.

Math was never my strong suit, but I thought I could at least add... >.<
So it's official!

So it's official... Not only is my novel dangerously running out of steam, but I fear that the universe is against me. Maybe I'm just paranoid. I'm in need of new plot ideas without going over the edge, becoming cliche, or becoming like any of my other novels (someone gets deathly ill, someone dies, someone gets pregnant, etc.).
Please tell me I'm not alone! *will sob and cry if I am alone*

Downtown Greenville Write-ins

I stopped by Spill The Beans in downtown Greenville to set up some weeknight write-ins for those who can't make Saturdays (and even for those who can). She suggested Monday nights, as she has groups coming in on Tuesdays already. We set up dates for the 10 and the 17th, and I've also asked for the 24th in an email. I haven't set a time yet as I wanted an idea of who would be able to make it, and what time is best.

So, what do you think? They're open until 10:30, I believe, so a later night could work. Let me know.
25k by the end of the day?

It's the 15th which means those rare few that manage to keep their word count consistent throughout the month should have 25k by the end of the day. I doubt I'll get there, but I'm shooting for at least 5k today. Hang in there everybody, we're at the halfway point.

Just an FYI

I got a spam email at the address I've been using for Nanowrimo, addressed to me as if it was NaNo mail to the ML. So, I've changed my email address for the site.

So, beware of emails that look like they're coming from me. This particular piece of spam was about the "ebay ca$h machine" - whatever that is - and had an attachment. I'm trying hard not to use the NaNo mail much at all; the next email you should get from me will be about the TGIO party.

Sorry about any inconvenience, folks.
