[STICKY] In State - Word War!!!

The MLs for both Fairfield County and the Valley-Northwest Region have agreed to get their butts kicked. ;-) Ooops, did that slip out?
Basically we're having a word war with those two regions. What will happen is those who post in this thread asking me to use their word counts will be included. Periodically, I will tally up the word counts of those who post below, I'll then get an average based on the number of writers participating. The region with the most words per writer at the end, will be crowned the victor!

Simple, eh? Your job is to post here, and let me know that I can use your word count. Then, come November 1st, you need to write as fast as your fingers will allow.

If you belong to multiple regions, you are welcome to sign for whichever region you want. (i.e. If you live in the Valley, by all means you're more than welcome to let the Shoreline count your words.)
:-}

Have fun, and remember to write like the wind as soon as we get into November!

[STICKY] Out of State Word War

The ML for Orlando, Florida has challenged us to another word war.

This is going to work the same way as the in state word war we've got going on. Respond below, and I'll be able to use your words to get a per writer average in our competition with Orlando.

Just think, by December we'll have another state that we can say we beat in another word war. Anyone else remember Indiana & Louisiana?

So let's write till our fingers fall off then use some voice recognition software to write some more and beat the pants off those damned Floridians!

Thanksgiving Weekend Write In???

Hey all,
I never plan any write ins for the weekend following Thanksgiving since many people aren't around....that being said... who is around? And more specifically do you want to plan a write in for Saturday afternoon/evening?

Let me know. I'm more than willing to figure something out. And if you are available & want to do this let me know where you're located. That way we can have something that is conveniently located for all who are around and need to pump out some words.
Donate today!

It's NaNoWriMo's tenth year! From Arkansas to the Yukon Territories over 115,000 adults and 21,000 kids and teens are taking up the challenge of writing a novel in November.

NaNoWriMo and the Young Writers Program are possible because of the energy and optimism of a tiny staff at the Office of Letters and Light and an army of volunteers. Because the Office is a nonprofit, your tax-deductible donations are essential. It takes a lot of money to keep servers humming, websites up and running, forums moderated, pep talks flowing, the office functioning, and the coffeepot perking. NaNoWriMo is free to everyone, but it has lasted this long because people like you donate to the cause.

There are many ways to give something back to the organization that gives so much to you, and many of them take no money at all. You can:
Good Luck to the rest of you (I'm out!)

Hey Shoreline -

Good luck to everybody. At 31K + change I'm done for this year.

Not because of a laptop breakdown or a rush at work or a runway or dry plot.

I'm out because yesterday, my wife gave birth to our beautiful baby girl, Vanessa Lily. She's absolutely perfect and it feels even better than the day I finished nano last year.

I hope to return to my nano novel some other time, but for now the title of daddy is more compelling than author :)

Hope everybody else rocks 50K!

4000 Word Challenge --stolen from Central Jersey Region but it works

Since I still have my old home region send me updates just in case I happen to be in the area (like Thanksgiving) I received this post in the Central Jersey forum. It may not seem like a lot, but it will certainly boost personal word counts and hopefully the regions scoreboard. ( I mean, hey, Central is at 52 right now so it might help us streak that little bit higher.

After a 2100 word day yesterday I will take today as my 4k challenge. (Probably the first of a few).

Please let us know if you're successful!

Pat Marin wrote:
Hi Fellow Central Jersey NaNoWroMos,

Anyone up for a 4000 word challenge? Why?

1) I'm Crazy
2) Central Jersey needs to move up in the word count and it needs our help to do it.

I've decided I'm not happy with where my word count is at the moment. After attempting NaNoWriMo for five years, I've realized it gets easier every time I do it. You've learn to plan better in your head before you start, you've learn to get rid of your internal editor, you're you've learned you don't need to the do research until it comes up the story so make a note in ALL CAPS, you've learn you create a better story when in creative mode (could this be the 'zone' that I've heard people talk about), and you've learned how to succeed. Thus, my challenge. Today is the day I try the 4000-word challenge. I've attempted it twice last year and if I remember correctly, I made it the first time but not the second. Will I succeed this time? I hope so otherwise I will be extremely embarrassed here.

If you'd like to join me, pick a day from now until November 30th and try it. Post your result here.

Did you make it? If yes, tell us how difficult or easy it was.
If not, what did you learn? How far did you get?
Did you like the challenge? If yes, why? If no, why not?

Let's have some fun, further our word count and move Central Jersey up on that list. We are at 52 right now.

I challenge you!

Pat

----------
"If the fury of the wind is unstoppable; I've learned to never underestimate; The impossible"

Here's the place to let me know about that place that you think would be perfect for the TGIO party!

Validation Info

Eeeee! We're getting close to the date when we'll be able to validate our word counts officially and see our green bars turn purple!

Some of us, of course, need to get a move on in order to acquire a green bar! *ahem*

Anyway, here's the link to the instructions on how to scramble your novel:

http://www.nanowrimo.org/node/402946

A special word to people who are typewriting and handwriting:

You do not have to enter your text into the computer in order to validate. You can do the following:

1. Write 50,000 words by your preferred method -- banging away on the ole typewriter, scribbling into your beloved notebook, scrawling the words on the walls of a cave you discovered in Sleeping Giant State Park. This really is the important step! Write the words.

2. Get someone else -- your mom, your faithful ML, a teacher, etc. -- to look at your typed pages, beloved notebook or cave wall. Ask that person to confirm that it's 50K.

3. Now go into your computer and create a document with the same number of words in it as your novel. You could do this by pasting a bunch of old essays into one big doc, or all the letters you've ever written to your grandmother, or whatever. As long as the word count is the same as the count for your novel, you're good.

4. Scramble the document on the computer according to the instructions provided in the link above.

5. Upload and validate.

We are all on our honor only to validate novelling word counts which we have actually written this November. You hand-writers and type-writer folks are equally on your honor only to validate the number of words actually on your typed pages, in your note book or scrawled on the cave wall.

Eeeee! It's nearly validation time! Eeeeeee!

So I was <strike> procrastinating </strike> researching and noticed that we're number 139 in word count ranking! I kind of thought that was awesome, because when you think about it, geographically we're not all that big. I feel like we all deserve a pat on the back!

So.
This is me giving you a virtual high five for making it into the top 150!

I have no means to type up the story any longer even if i were inclined to write longhand ,which i can't for any great period of time. .i can't type it at work (this pc) because we're in the middle of deadline.

Just giving everyone a head's up to my absense and my word count not going up. I guess remove me from the word wars too since I'll only hurt the count and median average at this point. =(
