Sometime between last years' Nano and this month I lost my 'muse' - my desire to write anything at all. Don't know what happened to it but it disappeared on me and I haven't been able to find it.

my only idea was to test out the old saying "a photo's worth a thousand words" and put together a photo project instead. take two photos instead of writing 2,000 words.

does anyone know if this is allowable?

I don't seem to get a response when I write for help, so thought I would try the local group of experienced people. I just finished by novel and there aree 70,008 words waiting to count for our group. I get everything entered, but when I try to submit it doesn't. I tried leaving off the book cover and it still didn't go. The other info went on fine like author info, etc,. Any help would be appreciated.

Word Count - Halfway There!

I made 50k at 10 am today. I am so cool my laptop has frost around the edges.

Last night, around 9:30pm (twenty-three hours and thirty minutes of being awake by that point in time) I found myself typing while asleep. I kept dozing off and couldn't keep my eyes open. But I kept typing, too. Nowhere near as quickly but when I came to a complete stop I jerked awake and realized I'd been typing about the Delta Quadrant (am watching Star Trek Voyager with the roommate) or chitinous unicorns (monster in the current Jim Butcher novel I'm reading) or having to go to the bathroom (I had to pee, man) and so I'd delete the stuff I'd written and start over but gradually drift off to sleep again. So I said screw that and went to bed.

I slept exactly eight hours and got back up. Dithered and edited some more amusing goofs I'd failed to notice last night (like my MC becoming a male and wanting to take Kira to the Founder homeworld with him . . .) and started. And lagged. And started. And lagged. But I got that extra five thousand I needed and a little bit more.

Another five thousand should finish the story off entirely unless I want to do some more drastic editing - so yay! First NaNo done.

Now on to the second.

How are you guys doing at the halfway point?

I met a WriMo on Saturday (actually I made her sign up) who has a great site for us to use for write-ins next year.

This would be in downtown Creston Iowa. Great location, fantastic people.

For next year (2009), does that sound like a location for a Jet Pack Day (longer day - goal is BIG word count).

I added an event calendar to the forum -- if your area has an event that you would like to have added - or if you would simply like to announce an event and see if anyone from the area may be able to make it - please contact me or reply to this post and I'll add the event. It may be a good idea for you to also add the event to a regional post that already exists on the board or create a post for the city or area that you'll be hosting the event in.

If you'll be planning multiple events in your area, let me know as well and I can set you up with access to edit the calendar as well.

One last note -- if you would like goodies for write-ins or kickoffs - please let me know. I have a small assortment of printable items, as well as a handful of mailable things (ex: stickers from the office of letters and light) that I'm willing to send out on a first-come, first-serve basis. I can provide a limited number to individuals, but I'd prefer to get things off to the masses first!

Hey, this is just a general post for carpool-planning purposes, so requests of that nature can have a home.

I should probably put a disclaimer here that says to be very careful with accepting rides from strangers. I mean, novelists in general are not exactly dangerous (except for being perhaps RABIDLY IMAGINATIVELY AWESOME), but I'm just putting that out there. Nanowrimo is not responsible for any rides planned via this board.

Just checking to see if there are people in or around Ottumwa joining the fun this year! This is my first year, so being able to go to write-ins would be great! I'll be very pregnant through November, however, so travel is sort of out of the question. Hopefully the baby will wait until the end of the month to be born!!!

Hey guys -- I wanted to pop in here real quick for an update.

Previously there were quite a few towns that were under the umbrella of Iowa : Elsewhere or Central Iowa. This year, a lot of these areas have their own separate groups and ML's.

Here's a list and links to all of the Iowa forums - new and old.

Sioux City
Waterloo

Make sure that if you're in one of these areas that you click here to join your region and then click here to set your home region so that you'll get emails and information from the right ML!

Also, I believe some of the regions may still be looking for ML's - so if you're interested make sure to check out the link here about becoming an ML.
