CD-Exchange -- Sign Up!

Hi there,

Last year's CD exchange was a minor success. I ended up with spares because some people who signed up didn't show, but that's okay!

Here's how it works.

Each person signing up for the CD exchange must do so before the 13th of November. At that time, I will post a number for you (essentially the number of participants +1). Each participant must then compose a CD of music they listen to when writing and/or in general to get their creative juices going, and make copies numbering the number I post. (participants+2)

On Friday, November 19, you'll bring those to Williams' with you, and everyone will leave with a number of CDs lovingly made by their fellow Wrimos. The last weeks of the challenge are tough and you can get introduced to some really great music!

All CDs must be in a case of some sort, whether plastic, cloth or home made paper, and must also have a list of the songs and their performers. Additionally, please label CDs with a nice tiny explicit tag if the lyrics within are explicit, in case we have minors participating.

Sad to say, but after coming to the realization that I would need to write 5,000 words a day for the next ten days straight in order to reach the 50,000 goal, I'm calling it quits.

I did complete the challenge last year, so I don't feel quite so bad about giving up - this November really wasn't my month. Well, the trip to Vancouver/Alberta was hella snazzy, but it ate up 12 days of my writing time. Now I'm changing gears, looking for work, and I know I won't get that miraculous 5,000 words/day. (My best ever last year was 3,500 words/day).

Yeah, I know, excuses. :p

So, a toast to NaNoWriMo '07! I'm not killing my project - I like it too much - but I'm going to stop stressing about making 50,000 K. :)

Come on guys, lets get some traffic flowing on the home board!

What are you writing for NaNoWriMo? Is it something fun and off the cuff, incorporating board dares? Do you have a kernal of an idea that you're going to chase down like a dog running after a squirrel? Do you have a detailed outline, character portraits and know exactly where you are going? Tell us!

I'll go first. (Seems only polite.)

I pretty much stick to fantasy and science fiction, with a smattering of horror/dark fantasy. This year I've decided that I'm going to work on a project I began as an exercise for Forward Motion's free 2-Year Novel Writing Class. (Forward Motion is a fantastic site ... a quick google search will turn up the forums, which are a lovely community.) I was trying to get away from last years NaNo, which I won at the 50,000 mark but didn't finish the story until January of 2008. I wanted something to play with that I wasn't attached to. There are weekly exercises to get you to work on the idea slowly. I'm woefully behind but sure I can crank out the rest of the world-building and maybe slap together an outline.

Anyway, it's a dark fantasy set in a fantasy asian-themed world that deals with death and the spirit world. It's very rough in my mind, unlike last year's efforts where I had a clear story in my head. (And I am starting to worry that I'm chosing stories for NaNo that require too much world building ... maybe setting myself up for difficulties.)

So, it may go well, or I may let it become an exploration, wandering and detailing as I go into a travel/test narrative.
Or, if that doesn't work, I will trot out a half-plotted urban fantasy dealing with werewolves and curses.
Or, if that doesn't work, I might just go for the silly and let it all hang out, an anime inspired romp that includes every dare and cliche I can think of.

My only problem is that I'm on vacation for a quarter of the month. :p

Hi guys!

Welcome to Sudbury's Nanowrimo Forum. I'm Stacey, aka Rhennaya, Sudbury's Regional Municipal Liaison. Last year we held our events at Williams on Elm street and I think we're going to continue there. Unless our group size increases dramatically, that will be the plan. If it increases dramatically, well, then I'll figure something out.

Our main event night will be Fridays, since in general Friday's work best for me and generally others too. If that doesn't work out, I need you to post in this thread so I know and we can look at other days. What DOESNT work for me are Wed-Thur-Sun nights. (Those are my raiding nights in WoW. Go ahead and laugh if you want, but it's true >.>)

I'll be posting events via the calendar once I figure it out - the site layout has changed a bit this year. I'm also looking for a media-savvy go-getter who wants to help me out this year.

I'll be looking for places to put up posters. Any ideas?

I was just wondering how many of us are students at either Laurentian, Cambrian or Boréal. I'm a first year Laurentian student and this is the first year I've actually got past 700 words (I'm on a roll with about 3500 right now!)

I'm looking forward to getting to know a bunch of you other students (and other folk!) in the Sudbury area, so drop me a line!

Is anyone going to Williams tonight? I don't know anyone in Nano, but I was intending to go to the meeting tonight until I got the email from Stace/Rhennaya saying she would not be there...
Anyway, anyone who's going, post here, and if I don't have any replies, I'll assume no one is going... If anyone wants to know who I am, my name is Steph. I'm a short girl, with red hair that will be pulled back in long, twin braids. I'll be sitting with a man with long blong hair. I'll probably have either a lap top or a binder at my table too. I have Sundays free. I was wondering if anyone would be interested in workshop sort of things on Sundays - Plot development, Mary Sue Syndrome, et cetera? I'm hardly entirely qualified to speak on these things myself, so they'd be more get together/brainstorming sessions. I don't mind the extra day, but some people don't like to give up their writing days.

If there's enough interest, then I'll see what I can put together.

Hey all! Sorry for being a major no show on the forums here. I get every post made in this forum emailed to me though, and trust me, I'm trying to get here to post. Unfortunately the site is a bit slow yet and drupal's never been fast-friendly. (argh). With that said though, I have official events on the Calendar now (some are still incoming). I'm hoping to see a huge turn out this year.

I also did an interview with the Northern Life a few days ago so I expect we'll see something there! That'll bring in some folk, I'm sure.

Even if you have no intention of showing up through the month, try to attend the Kick Off and TGIO parties. This gives your Municipal Liaison a chance to associate faces with names, and gives them a chance to hand out goodies (stickers anyone? If they arrive in time)...also, it gives the ML a chance to know how many people are in the area.

In the last two years we've gone from two people to 20 people (four regulars!), and this year? We can only go up!

The Kick Off is held on Friday, November 2nd. See you then!
