MISSISSIPPI WRIMOS UNITE!

Hello everyone,

I am posting on here for one reason and one reason alone. After this past year's NaNoWriMo I became inspired by the effort which Seatle made in achieving the largest combined wordcount in the world (16,757,473 total combined words to be exact). It is that effort that has sparked my vision.

I say that we, the combined elite writers of Mississippi, ban together in combining our wordcounts for November '08 to defeat the superpower of Seatle!

All I need from you is your NaNo account name, an email adress, and a will to commit to the word count goals you set (whether that is 1 word, 50k to win, or whatever more). Please post that information on here so I may add you to the roster for a contribution in the pot of wordcounts.

Also, anyone who would like to help me in gathering other prospective WriMos within the state, or those that would compete for our state from the outside. Please, oh please give me their information as well. Any help will be appreciated in the utmost of fashions.

We can most definitely do this as the Mississippi NaNoWriMo Elite!

Any Coasties?

Anybody on the coast taking part in 2008?

I joined in 2005 while displaced to El Paso, and finished, but then moved back to the Bay/Waveland area and allowed recovery to distract me from my writing. I'm ashamed to admit I haven't written a word since returning!

Now that things are not quite so hectic, I think I'm ready to jump back in and take part this year. I think the hardest part for me is going to be getting back into the habit of writing every day.

Is anybody in the Bay St Louis or Waveland area taking part this year? If so, feel free to get in touch.

Can you believe that it's already November 3? How are we all doing? I got off to a bit of a slow start, but I'm hoping to bring myself a little bit ahead of the game before the end of the weekend. It's not so much writing that's slowing me down, but just life in general. I'm sure that life can work itself out, unless Holly was lying to me and the day really doesn't have 26 hours in it. (She might be fibbing so that I make her some chicken and rice.)

Meridian, MS NaNo's

i was kind of hoping that i would find someone that i could link up with here in meridian. i don't get the chance to leave the area very often, for that matter not even my house. i have my mom, my granddaughter and my other half to take care of during the day. he's a day sleeper so usually by 10 i'm free till about noon on most days. would love to chat with someone that understands my passion for writing and seeing the accomplishment of writing a novel in 30 days.

I am from McComb, where I live with my five (yes, five!) dogs: my Toy Fox Terriers Beau, Cajun, Holly, and Drew; as well as my Rough Collie, Glitter. In addition to doing freelance writing and editing, I also show my dogs and compete with them in obedience trials. I usually write paranormal fiction, but this year I am trying a cozy mystery. What better time than NaNoWriMo to try something completely different? I'm trying to do some advance planning, but so far haven't gotten a word of it done. This year I will be a participant for the fourthh time and a municipal liaison for the third time.

How about you all?

I'm starting this thread for everyone to share the topic of their NaNo.

My NaNo will be about a thief, who is in a polyamorous relationship, and his crew trying to pull off the job of a lifetime. It will be set in Ocean Springs. I'm not sure what kind of obstacles I'm going to throw at them yet, but they're failure is almost certain. And I haven't decided what the object of the thievery (is that a word?) will be, but I'm going to trying for something with comic possibilities.

If you don't have a plot, I'd like to suggest that you browse the "Adopt-A-Plot" thread in the "Plot Doctoring" forum.

If you have a plot but are looking for something to flesh out your characters, I recommend the "Dare" thread in the same forum. I've incorporated a few into my plans already.

Back again in NE Mississippi

I'm having another go at it this year (I forgot last year). My wife is trying it also, for the first time.

Last time I got about 1500 words and was unemployed. This time I'm working 40-80 hours a week!

Going to try to hand write it. I have typing injuries and so I don't think I can type that much. Will be using a Lamy Safari fountain pen with Noodler's black ink, on an undecided notebook. I don't really think my hands will hold up to that either, but oh well.

I have only a vague notion of what I want to write. Something inspirational. Hope I figure it out tomorrow morning when I start. (c:

Jackson Area Get-Together

Launch? Meet Ups?

Is anyone interested in a Mississippi kick-off meeting? I live in McComb, so I'd prefer the meeting to be somewhere between Jackson and Hattiesburg if I am going to run the meeting, but there's no reason why people can't run other meetings in their own areas. IF people are willing to drive to McComb and IF we can get more than 10 people to confirm that they are absolutely coming, it might be worth looking into reserving a meeting room at Golden Corral or something.

11/9 to 11/11
I am also planning to be in the Jayess area for a dog show from Nov. 9-11, with any luck at all I will be available either Friday, Saturday, or Sunday night. At this point it all depends on it depends, since I am starting a new job and need to be a bit flexible in my scheduling.

11/17-11/18
I am definitely planning to request these days off for a UKC dog show in Long Beach. I would love to meet some of you coasties. :D Any thoughts on where we could meet would be terrific, since I'm not really familiar with the area.
If we have a small enough group, I'll rent a hotel room (so I don't have to drive back and forth to McComb) and maybe we can meet in the lobby.

In any case, I'm open to suggestions!

Columbia MS for kick off meeting?

Most of the people who have responded so far seem to be from either the Hattiesburg area or from the McComb(ish) area. Would we be able to meet in Columbia, MS to have a kick off meeting? There are a few interesting restaurants that might be open to having us, including a coffee shop. There is also a Pizza Hut that is open until 10:00, which would be happy to push some tables together in the middle of the restaurant on just a few minutes notice.

If Columbia is out of the question, then I'd be just as happy for the two groups (or three, if people from the Jackson area can't travel to McComb) to have their own kick off meetings. If anyone were interested in running a kick off meeting in either of those areas, I'd be happy to order some additional swag for people to give out at those locations, or to send a few items from my current order if I have enough to supply other meetings.

I also repeat my offer to get together with people on the coast when I go to a dog show in Long Beach MS. The club is having dinner catered for only $12 per person on Saturday night--if any of you are dog fanciers and would like to meet up that evening for a write-in, I'd be happy to meet you there!

As usual, I welcome any thoughts on the matter. :D

Jackson WriMos Where Y'at??

Hey guys, I'm new both to Jackson and to NaNoWriMo, but I hear in other places they get together a lot during Nov and just share space. Sometimes there's free flow discussion and ideas, but most times there's just writing in silence -- creating an atmosphere charged with creativity and magic and caffeine jitters and frustrated writer's block. Anybody interested? Let's pick a coffee shop or bookstore where we can rub elbows and pick each other's brains! Once a week to start? Holla if you're with me!

I live in North Jackson, but I can go anywhere, anytime (ah, sweet freedom!)

How about here in McComb at the Golden Corral Restaurant, Friday night, starting at 6:30 p.m.? We could all meet for dinner between 6 and 7 for dinner and write till 10 when they close. Alternatively, what do you think of online word wars?
