Hey there! Any fellow Greek NaNoers up for the challenge this year?
I can't wait!

That's the spirit! Because once you're half-way done, what's there to stop you from crossing the finish line?
How much did you write last year?

i didn't write very much, actually. i started well but then work just piled on and i couldn't find the time to write at all. but i'm determined to nano this year to jumpstart a project i want to finish. what are you writing?

I'm writing a... science fiction... sort of... thing. Could be considered literature... I have no idea what you'd call it or what genre it is. It's set in the future, so I'm going with Science Fiction. I don't really have a plot; just planning on making it up as I go. And hoping for 60-65k this year, which I've never done before.
So, I guess, we both have our individual mountains to climb... Let's hope we both make it to the top!
Do YOU have a plot? What are you writing?

i have a story in my head and i'm not sure if i should just sit down and write -- starting november 1 -- and see what comes out or if i should outline first. what slows me down is that i edit as i write but i think what i'll try this nano is just getting it all down on paper (maybe as an extensive outline) and then go back to edit afterwards. there's the temptation to plan but that doesn't seem to work for me because i get bored with the story if i plan too much.
how do you write? do you outline first, then sit down to write or do you just do a sort-of stream-of-consciousness?
by the way, do you live in thessaloniki? i'm on poros, a small island about an hour from athens.

I need outlines like college students need coffee! I can't function/write without them. That being said, I don't always follow them. The trick is to make them vague, so you don't get bored when actually writing the thing. You don't need to plan every scene and piece of dialogue. Or maybe you do. It works for some people.
And, yes, I am from Thessaloniki. :)

i like thessaloniki. it's still a far more humane city than athens.
as for outlining, i think i'll try a vague story/plot sketch and see what happens when i actually start writing.

Hey, word_slinger! Welcome to the madness!
There don't seem to be many Greek writers around this year... There were about 15 of us last year, now there's 4...
Oh, well, I'm sure they'll turn up eventually.

Hey, eveyone! Good to see some familiar faces (well, usernames) again this year. :)
I'm pleased to report that two out of the four stories I wrote for NaNo 1007 have already been accepted for publication. And since I have a new laptop, a new writing space and nothing to burden me, I plan to finish this year.
Good luck to you all.

oh, and just out of curiosity, is anyone planning to use greece as a setting or anything else in their novel?

I was going to use Greece, but then I decided to go with another story entirely and that's set in an imaginary city with no name, in a country that is never actually mentioned...

So, is anyone going for more than 50k this year? I'll try my hand at 75k, but anything more than 60k is fine, really. Only problem is, I can barely make it to 50k each year... But hope springs eternal!
There's a challenge I'll be doing on November 1st, from midnight to 5am. 10000 in 5 hours. You can find it at Word Wars and Sprints (or whatever the thread is called). I'll be ecstatic if I get more than 3k, but the whole point of this is to get words written, even if it's only 200 of them.
So, anyone care to join me? It'll be fun, I promise! And when you're done, you just post your word count and your name goes on The Wall of Awesomeness forever! No matter how little you have written.
Think about it! How many people can say that they are on a Wall of Awesomeness?

Hi everyone! I didn't expect to find anyone else from Greece here. I'm pleasantly surprised!
I've been lurking for the last few years but this is the first November I'm actually writing.
I have most of the characters outlined, and a very general and vague outline for the story so far.
I hope I can actually make it...

Hello and welcome, Amethyst!
Joining in the madness was the best choice you could have made! I mean, sure, it's gonna be hard, but it'll be tons of fun as well.
PS: I has synopsis, YAY! Not very good, but probably my best piece of writing for at least a month. Bad writing, the NaNoWriMo way!

Ouch. For some reason I never got notifications of the new posts. Is it just me, or is it navigation trickier this year?
Someone asked if Greece features in any of our stories. It does, briefly, in mine.
And 10K words in 5 hrs? You people are crazy. Even if I could keep my eyes open, I'm planning to write words I can actually use once November is over. ;)
Good luck, everyone!

BAM. Found it. Greece ftw.
Outta curiosity... we're all Greeks here, so why not talk in Greek?
'nyway... I suppose we get started tomorrow (or tonight, for those of you who don't have other plans). Any good stories being cooked up yet? =/
EDIT: No Greece in my story. It's an original world, so...

But typing in English is much easier and faster. And since we can all understand it, why not?
So, anyone writing their novel in Greek?
Also, I'll be writing tonight from 12 to 5am. If you want, come word war with me. I'll be doing 30 minute word wars over at word wars, prompts and sprints.

Ah, I see. Makes sense then.
I'm writing in English. Writing in general, but more specifically writing fantasy, somehow comes much easier in English than in Greek. Greek is a pretty shitty language to write fantasy, really. But maybe it's just me.
Lol, 12 to 5? Rather impossible for me, I got an early wake tomorrow - whereas I would like to screw my job and write instead, I sort of can't =S. I do intend to rush at least 5,000 words before 2 am though. So if you mean a short-term word war (instead of a five-hour one), I'm game.

I've been really busy but managed to get my story started!
I added an abstract as well to the satisfaction of your curiosity. ;)

Count me in for Greeks. I know there is one more guy (he's a friend of mine). I'm writing fantasy this year and I'm doing it in Greek. I'm also in for 100.000 words (I finished with some 58.000 in 2007) but I think my life won't let me do it...
There's also a number of Greeks doing NaNo, almost all of them on a science fiction or fantasy theme, in www.sff.gr, should anyone want to check.
I'm wondering if it's the right place to talk about it, but why do you think greek is shitty when writing fantasy? I've seen thiw belief expresed someplace and I must say I disagree.
