I know Bobby and i know Alex. That's it. So I think it's time for intros?

My name is Leah, I'm 19 but i turn 20 on the date of Kennedy assassination (as my best friend/love if my life tends to remember it by, since he's secretly obsessed with Kennedy). I participated in last years nano, and am STILL working on it. I think i might just go November on it so that it can be done before THIS YEARS nano starts. I'm in school to be a hair stylist and i graduate just in time to focus on nano and get a new job. yay. I'm a vegan and I LOVE making vegan cupcakes. I live on professional hair care products and mac. I, very regrettably, recently shaved the sides of my head a few weeks ago and now have a definite Mohawk/undercut and i miss my hair, even if it does look totally fierce. I love Project Runway and Goth Night at the Wave. I live in Virginia Beach, but i tend to wander the general Hampton roads area, including formerly dating someone who lived in Newport News. God awful drive.

Anyway, that's me.

Hey all,

I'm Nave/Evan. I've tried to do Nanowrimo the last couple years but have failed both times. Third time's the charm :)

Stats! 27/m/Newport News. Work for a credit union as a collector. I hate it. :) Single guy. Will probably be working towards getting my teaching license soon here, though for now I have my BA in Criminal Justice and am a license Private Investigator. I don't do anything with it, but I keep it active.

My family's always had lots of pets, but all I have right now are 3 fishes, Copper, Goldie and Platinum. Got them super tiny from Wal-Mart and they are getting huge. Goldie especially.

Working on ideas for this year's novel. The last two years I wanted to do a zombie novel and may try it again this year. I just want to finish it for once heh.

Hey, I'm Diane. My friends call me Día (Dee-Ah). I'm in my senior year of high school, and more than busy juggling with my future. I'm planning to study art in college. However, I've always had a desperate love for writing. I'm a "personal" writer, and tend to focus mostly on feelings and character-interaction then plot... which often tends to kill my stories. I've never finished a single one, but there is nothing wrong with trying!

I'm going to be working on an older science-fiction idea that I've had for about a year now. It starts out with a young pre-teen misanthrope who struggles with his parallel self-hatred and egotism, his surprising genius, and his home life living with his single father, Edward, who refuses to tell him anything about his Mother (not even her name!)... However, when he goes looking for the mysteries of his birth, he finds out something about himself that he never wanted to know. It also leaves him responsible to make a decision that will either bring destruction or revolution to the world that he never really felt he was a part of to begin with.

Anyway, I wonder how my first year participating will go? It is all really exciting for me~! Wish me luck :)

I'm Arika, and I'm actually moving to the area sometime at the end of October/beginning of November, so I figured I'd go ahead and check in! My husband is in the Navy, and we're looking to live somewhere in the Portsmouth or Norfolk area, most likely. We're actually going house-hunting this week!

I did Nano last year, and made it to 50,000 but didn't finish my novel. I didn't even get to the halfway point, actually. I had all these fabulous characters that I loved, but no plot...lol.

This year, I've actually got a plot, and I'm going to spend all of October fleshing out my ideas. I can't wait to see what Nano 2008 will bring!

Looking forward to meeting some writers in the area! I went to write-in's last year and loved them. I still keep in touch with my fave writing buddy that I met via Nano!

Hey Arika! (Your name is very pretty, btw!) I live in the Portsmouth area. :) Welcome!~ My Dad was in the Navy, so we moved around a lot too. Portsmouth is a tough place to get use to at first, but it is not bad after that. If you're planning to have children or have some already, I'd go to Norfolk, however. Goodluck with house-hunting!!! (Oh, and I've lived in Charleston too!)

I'm so envious that you got to 50,000! I hope to accomplish the same thing. It seems we suffer from the same problems with writing. I look forward to this year, since it is my first! 2008 will be an awesome year for writing! Have fun!

Halloooo out there in NaNo land!

I'm Joanna, the other ML for the region along with Alix. *prods the site* Oddly enough I'm getting the ML emails but don't see the stuff on the website... so Alix come kidnap me and we'll fix it, eh? ^_^

About me... well, I'm an environmental educator (no, not kidding, it just sounds fancier than it is) because I love working with animals and with kids and sometimes even at the same time! I'm very eclectic and like all sorts of music and art and sports and... well, lots of things. I've hit 50k the past two years writing random fantasy stories. It's the only time I let myself write them because I generally think of them as "candy" sorts of books. I love reading them, but my "real" thing is young adult.

Hmm, what else... I have two cats, I volunteer some fun places (don't worry, I'll bring pictures!) and I'm into photography though I don't have a nice camera at the moment, which makes me sad. Unfortunately there's not a lot of money in environmental education. *shrugs*

Also, WELCOME to all of you, be ye new or old! I hope I'll see you in the near future. And it'd be great to get an idea of whether you're on the north or south side as we want to schedule write-ins for both and need to know WHERE YOU ARE!

YAY for NaNo! ^_^

Last thing... feel free to PM me with any questions. I might not have an answer, but I'll at least make up something really good for you. ~_^

Thanks for the welcome! :)

I, too, was a Navy kid before I became a Navy wife! lol My dad says I should've known better, but what can ya do?

We did end up choosing a house in Portsmouth, partly b/c my husband's brother, wife, and their children live there. It will be nice to have family close by, esp. since we both have a kid in kindergarten.

Yeah, the planning part was more fun for me than the writing part last year! Well, sort of...I loved spending all of October planning, but I only planned my novel up to a certain point. I didn't know what happened after that. Everyone kept telling me that I'd figure it out before I hit that point but I never did! And so, a year later, that novel still sits, only 1/3 complete even though I hit 50,000!

Hiya, I'm Valerie, I had another Nano account but lost it... (got rid of the email it was linked to...)

Anyways- This is try number four, with one win so far and two attemps where I quit in week one. So the big thing for me is going to be making it to week two!

I'm a grad student at ODU, going for my doctorate in physical therapy. I've very little free time but I figure that if I can find two hours a day to write I've got this in the bag. I'm going to do a middle-grade book based off of a Grimm fairy tale (not sure which one yet...)

Anyways, I'm really hoping to use the site this year and pair up with a few people for word count battles (maybe race to see who can write the most in 15 minutes or some such...) And I'd be interested in write in's as well.

I live in Suffolk, but go to school in Norfolk. So as far as write ins go, I'd love to see a few happen on or near ODU's campus (Borjo's coffee house anyone?)

I'm Christine, 25, and this will be my third year doing nano. I made it the other two years, but that was while attending school. I missed last year simply because my schedule had barely enough time for basic survival, let alone writing. So now I'm back this year, and have also moved back to Hampton Roads after spending the last 4 years out in Blacksburg, at Virginia Tech. I'm out in Smithfield now, working as a veterinarian *finally!!*, and just hoping my new puppy will cooperate with my writing time, and not eat my cats!

I live in Hampton. I'm in my fifties, married, grown children. After being sold on the idea by several co-workers, I signed up for NaNo two years ago and never got off the mark. I started last year and hit 50,000 by November 25th. This occurred despite marrying off a daughter in the middle of the month. It was an exciting time. My college age son did NaNo with me last year and had a great time - although I'm not sure it helped his grades. His prose far outshined mine. I anticipate that my wife, my son and one of my daughters will do it with me this year.

This year I'll be doing NaNo while I finish up a graduate class I started in August.

I haven't gone back a single time to look at what I wrote last November. It's complete fantasy drivel but I was absolutely eaten up with it during the month. This year I may stick with a drama piece.

I enjoyed the intensity of the effort last year. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to match that intensity this time, but I'm going to give it a go.

Oh, and I live in Williamsburg.
And I'm in marching band, harmonics (a choir group thing), on the volleyball team, in Latin Club, and trying to maintain a 4.0. soooooooo. kinda busy. lol (:

Eh, it's not letting me reply to the individual person... so you'll have to all get one great big WELCOME from me to you. ^_^ Feel free to add me, email me, PM me, whatever you need.

ALSO please PM me if you know a good place for a write-in near where you are! I'll need an address and phone number of the place so I can get the okay to bring in a group... and so I can find it myself! Hehe. Thanks!

Hello, I'm Chris (better known as Ricechex).

26/F/VA Beach.

Single mom to a 2 year old who has fear of nothing save a squirt bottle. Never heard of a NaNoWriMo before, but should prove interesting. I'm not in it to win, I'm just in it to try and give myself a kick in the butt to at least make some headway on this thing I call a manuscript.

Hi group!

Ellen from Norfolk, here. This is my first NaNoWriMo, but I have inflicted a similar task upon myself before: an 80,000 word work over six weeks a few summers ago that ended up being a published project (2500 copies sold, and maybe will farm it around again once I run out...) and launched me into the 'small potatoes' publishing business. Six weeks to write, but a year to completely edit it 3 times! ;) I'm also a chiropractor, not quite 40 anymore, but not yet 50. Once upon a time got my undergrad degree in English...
I've been kicking around my idea for about a year now, and am making notes to be ready for November 1. I love, LOVE working under pressure! Good luck everyone!

I'm Devin - 27, female - and am currently a very happy apartment dweller in Ghent ... but am moving at the end of this month to Chesapeake to live with my boyfriend. I'm trying to get as much packing, etc done as possible before October 31, but I have a feeling that there will still be much to do once the calendar rolls over to November... IKEA furniture is a bitch to put together.

This is my second year in the NaNo world. I managed to hit 50K last year with a really trippy crime-ish story, but am a little lost right now. I had decided a few months ago that I would spend all of October planning & outlining so November would go easier; I have pages and pages of ideas which I've been meaning to put together into some sort of story idea, but between my full-time job, forcing myself to go to the gym, and House reruns on USA... that hasn't happened.

Other distractions are going to include video games (Animal Crossing AND Little Big Planet?! What are you trying to do to me, gaming industry?), being forced to Florida for Thanksgiving, and trying to convince my boyfriend that we want a golden retriever instead of a stupid tiny yippy dog.

Overall, I'm excited for November, but am trying to be realistic about necessary hours of sleep. Thank god for coffee and leftover sick days at work.

Hullo all! :)

My name's Martha (as you can tell by the highly original username ^_~;; *sheepish grin*), I'm 31.999 (32 on the 18th) and this will be my fourth NaNo! I've lost all of the others, however I've been losing in an upwards direction, so this year might take me over the top. *crosses fingers*

I'm already counting myself lucky this year, since I'm going back to school full-time as of October 24th (Accounting, yay!) and will have a bit less on my plate than in previous years. I had a lot of fun last year with my writing buddy, and I'm really looking forward to getting the chance to attend some write-ins!

I live in Newport News, round about the airport area, and my hubby is in the Army over at Ft Eustis. I spent a good deal of last year's Saturdays in the Barnes and Noble over at Patrick Henry mall, but I'm more than willing to travel a bit if needed.

I've got a writing blog over at www.UnquietBones.com that I just setup last week, a LiveJournal over at Khriskin.livejournal.com, and an older online archive at TheUnforgottenCountry.everydaydragons.com. I really need to update Unforgotten, but I just haven't had the time! :P

I'm Megan, I'm 29 and mom to just-turned-four twin boys. I used to be an archaeologist before I had them, but now all my degrees are just collecting dust (and loan interest) while I freelance copyedit. I belly dance with a local tribal-style troupe, and occasionally teach. Been dancing about 12 years now. I play in the SCA with the hubby - I specialize in 14th century France, hubby is 13th century German (I chose it for the clothes, he chose it for the armor). I have an ungodly amount of fabric that I'm going to sew into something aaaaaany day now. I am totally addicted to the internet. I admin at a message board for parents of twins, www.GotTwinz.net, and also waste time on Facebook, Vox, and Tribe. Weird YouTube videos are my weakness - go search "Lal Lal Hoton Pe" for my latest favorite chock full of random video.

This is my first NaNo, but it won't be my first novel, I've written five novel-length stories already. I have no idea what I'm going to write about for NaNo. I suppose I should figure that out pretty soon here.

I live on southside, on the edges of the Dismal Swamp.

Hi! You guys can call me Em, I'm 14, and this is my first nano. I actually just signed up today! I mostly want to be a TV/ movie writer, but I've always wanted to write a novel, and this sounds perfect for me. (I have horrible consistency issues).
Cows are my favorite animal.
I have side bangs! (well we were talking about hair...)
Your mohawk sounds awesome.
And... um... thats really all you need to know about me!

Squatty here!

Second time go at NaNo. 23 year old female professional in Norfolk. Love it here.

Got to about 3,500 words last time. LOL. tried innovative idea, but just turned into junk and idiotic rambling.

Good luck to all the other NaNo-ers out there!

Hey, y'all.

I'm Dennis. This is my second NaNoWriMo. I didn't finish anywhere close to the goal last year. I've high hopes for this year, though. I tried to work on a novel that was already well underway last year - that didn't work. Yeah, I know. They told me not to do that. Anyway, I finally finished that one and it's out and about hunting agents.

I'm starting a brand spankin new story - a science fiction thriller. I hope to get a messy first draft done.

I'm 52 (birthday last month). I'm also a teacher. I'm married with four grown daughters and a golden retriever named George who has more allergies than me.

I'm looking forward to November.

--'til later,

jamedenbou

Hello and WELCOME! ^_^

I'm so glad to see so many new and returning people! Yay!!

Since it's been a little while down the post (and October's on the downhill slide...), I'll reintroduce myself. ^_^

My name is Joanna and I'm your co-ML along with Alix. This is my third NaNo, my first as ML, and I plan to be a third-year-in-a-row winner. I tend to hit 50k right before Thanksgiving so I can eat in peace with my family, haha.

Anyway, I look forward to meeting all of you at our kick-off party and various write-ins throughout the month. Feel free to drop me a line if you have a question and I'll try my best to answer. ^_^ See you soon!

Joanna
