Hey everyone! I got the first thread of the year YAY! Ahem. By pure chance that I checked the site early but still...

I know I'm not the ML or anything but I thought I'd welcome everyone and say hi :) give a bit of an introduction - you know the drill.

So I'm Suzanne *wave* I'm 21 (22) in November and I live in Salford. I'm a 6 year veteran of NaNoWriMo and 5 times winner. The only draft I've ever tried to edit afterwards is my 2006 effort which gets poked at every couple of months. I started out as a Manchester Wrimo back in 2003 but then I switched to a Lancaster Wrimo in 2005 when I went to university. I've now graduated and have moved back in with my parents (sarcastic "woo") so I'm back in Manchester!

Last year in Lancaster we had an amazing ML and had weekly write-ins which were incredibly helpful and fun to everyone who showed up so I'm hoping that gets replicated in Manchester. We even had a TGIO party at a chinese restuarant - the first TGIO I'd ever gone to and it was good fun!

What else can I babble on about....well...aside from writing, I enjoy photography (my baby's are my Canon EOS 400D Digital SLR and my Canon EOS 300D 35mm SLR), going to the cinema, wanting more money so I can buy Nightmare Before Christmas merchandise, reading (obviously), ebaying, chocolate (self-confessed addict) and dreaming of the day I can finally move out down south and try and get a publishing intership in London.

I'll be quiet now ;) if anyone's from Salford or nearby, give me a shout :)

Heya, I'm not from Manchester (I'm on the rght side of the Pennines ;P) but I'm midway between Leedsand Manchester, so I may turn up to meets in both (cos I'm bored lol)
I'm at the start of a gap year before I go off to uni, and I've filled it so far with writing, so NaNoWriMo won't be much differet really, unless I manage to find a job

Well, I went to uni in Salford but I haven't been back since.

This is my second year doing this, not writing this post, but participating in nanowrimo.

I don't really have an idea of what to write yet, but I think that I'll try the snowflake method that people keep posting about, but I gather that it requires an idea, so I may be in the crapper there.

I probably won't get to go to any meets this year, due to my job being down near Birmingham (boo), but I may be about on these forums a bit.

catch you all later,

M.

Hello!
I'm not exactly from Manchester, I live in Preston, but I figure it's close enough. I was part of Manchester last year. I've just started college, so hopefully I'll have time to get this done, I read a lot, and this is my second Nanowrimo, and hopefully my second win...

LOL! Good call. I wouldn't be back either if it wasn't for the fact I had no money, no job and nowhere else to live after Uni.

Hey again. This is ShadowedWhispers under a new account. I really hated the username and I've used Kaleidoscope for everything for the past 2 years except here! So I made a new account.

See ya!

Hey All,
Im Gareth, I've Nano'd for a few years but this is the first year that Im going in with any real seriousness. I live in Bury (near Manchester) and Im tackling a new genre this year. Im going for Urban Fantasy and I've got it done to Jog Pants planning (basically enough of a plan to be comfy but with enough freedom for nothing constricting.) Hopefully will try and make a meet or two but if theres anyone thats a bit more local perhaps something can be fixed up.

Hiya, I'm Helen

I live in Little Hulton (Bolton), Manchester born and bred. This is my second year doing nano (new user name) and I think I'm going to be writing fantasy. If it changes, it'll be sci fi.

Hi Gareth and Helen :)

Helen, I thought Little Hulton was in Salford, next to Walkden? I live like a mile from there.

I'm back!

Danny P here. 2 year veteran and 2 year winner. Supporting a new job that involves more hours, brain power and time in front of a computer than the previous 2 years, so this one is going to be a bit more of a challenge i think!

I'm looking forwards to this year. it seems every year our communities are getting larger and whether people win or not we're all coming back for more! To all those familiar user names: Welcome back! Although I fear I'm going to be too busy to ML this year I'll try my all to turn up a meet-up or two.

Hey all. I'm actually in Lancaster, studying at the uni here, but we don't get our own region (we don't even get our own town on wii weather center.) I'm from America originally, and I've participated in NaNo for 3 years and won the first 2 times (last year was my first year of uni, too busy!)

My name is Hazel and I'm studying English literature and creative writing. I also like to sew and make dolls. And speak American. I'm going to write a sci-fi novel this year after two years of really pretentious "literary fiction". I'm also interesting in stop motion, and you can visit my website at www.therosebower.com

Lancaster has got it's own region Hazel :-) Here's the link:

http://www.nanowrimo.org/eng/node/1032851

Your ML this year is Leigh (StarKitten) she's lovely and write-ins take place in Juicafe in Lancaster town centre. They blend muffins into milkshakes so it's a favourite spot ;-) and I think they like Wrimo's going in and writing for two hours/buying their milkshakes lol!

I did Creative Writing at Lancaster Uni too - great fun and actually really useful as well (assuming you get some decent tutors and I didn't do too badly out of the bunch that they have.) So if you want head over to the Lancaster and Cumbria forum, they'll welcome you with open arms but we'll be glad to have you here too!

Well....I DID reply to this a couple of days ago but apparently my post was eaten. I'm back for the 3rd year and, for the 3rd year, have no idea what I'll be writing and will just sit down on the 1st and start writing something. Last year I had it very easy, knee surgery kept me off work for the whole month so I had 24 hours a day to write. I managed to hobble to one of the meet ups though and hopefully will be able to make at least one this year.

This is going to be my last year as a Manchester wri mo if all goes well, I'm planning a wedding for June and will be moving to Ireland for at least 12 months then to wherever my other half is sent.

Back for my third year, and with some luck, my second winning year.

I'm Holly, am 16, and doing the dreaded GCSE exams this year - two of which (English Language exams) are scheduled in November. I only have a very vague idea so far, but it will hopefully work . . . hopefully.

I went to one write-in last year mid-way through NaNo and had fun. Maybe I'll be able to do that again this year. :D Hoping to see a lot of you there?

Hello. I'm Jacqui and this is my first year.
I work in the City Centre and I will be writing a sci-fi which is quite a genre away from my usual misery-lit!

I am 47 and write fiction as a hobby. I also write non-fiction as part of my job as a research psychologist. I don't know if I will be able to make any of the meet-ups, I hope so as I have heard good things about them and am badly in need of some motivation.

Looking forward to it......

My name's Aeryn, or Gorg if you want to go by my nickname :P I live right in the middle of Manc, I'm at university here, I'm 18, and this is my second year of NaNo. I won last year, but that's because I didn't really work in college. It's gonna be a lot harder now. I haven't properly decided on my novel, but it's either gonna be an offshoot of something I wrote when I was younger, or a philosophical novel (so I don't feel like I'm wasting potential study time :P).

Hello, Heloise aka Fran here,

This is my second year and I am going for a bit more planning this time. Last time was a complete blast, but the result is so incredibly confused I can't get into editing...

Genre - either scifi or detective. Can't decide.

Hey all, second year of attempting, but it's my first year of attempting it without the simultaneous distractions of a girlfriend and my schizophrenia. Hurray.

Actually live just outside of Blackpool, but that area is lame, and I spend plenty of time in Manchester, so figured I'd come check out you guys. Name's Jesse and am really looking forward to this year.

Back for a second year, hopefully this year I'll actually finish. Didn't really introduce myself much or post much last year, will probably try harder this time around.

I'm Andrew, almost 21, from Swinton, and I don't do much with my life at the moment. I also have lots of trouble writing introductory shizz, so... yeah. I went back and read everyone else's posts and still couldn't think of much to say really. I work at Odeon at the Trafford Centre, but I've been off sick for a while now.
Got a steady boyfriend, Craig, who I've been with for over two years now - he lives in the States and I'll be having a two month holiday in California over Christmas/New Year/the nasty UK winter, haha. The NaNo will be a good thing to distract me from worrying about the flights, as I don't like flying at all.

I'll also say hello to Suzanne, who I was at college with but haven't seen in a time period that is probably years now. I figured it was you from the Kaleidoscope name. =D

I have joined the Bury scrabble club and passed my ECDL which was upermost in my curriculum.

However being in full time employment its going to be - interesting.

LOL! Hiya! Hows it going? Well guessed :p. I changed my username this year (well got a new account) so I dunno if you'd've known me on my old username but that's kinda irrelevent now I s'pose lol.

Hello all. The name's Liam (known as Jack Luminous by ni...er, late afternoonish), seven-time NaNoer and five-time winner, Manchester writer for the second year running. I live in Levenshulme with two cats, a snake, a hamster and two other (human, probably) NaNoers.

My writing ranges widely but lazily over the wilds of 'genre fiction'; this year I'll probably do historical fantasy.

I met a few of you last year, though I didn't make it to many (i.e. more than one) meet-ups. This year I hope will be different, though I'm also working full time and doing an OU course. Let's see how crazy this November will be.

Hi, I'm Fiona, I'm a programmer working in the centre and living in Withington.
I came to the first meet last year, but November went all tits-up after that and I wasn't even in the county for any more of those!

This year I've taken on far too many things to even think about hitting 50k, but that's not going to stop me giving it another try! Anything over 10k is a win for me, hehe.

Hi, everyone. I'm Mark, a programmer living mostly in Withington, and this is my first year doing this. I'll probably be writing humour, but it could easily change when I start typing in November and nothing funny comes out.

I'm Zan from Prestwich which is near Bury and right next to Salford! :) I'm 24, am not very tall, and I smile a lot. I've never done nanowrimo before, but I've been wanting to do it for a few years now. Glad to hear that there's a few of us who have never done this before either to be honest! I'm not the only newbie :)

In my free time I take photos with my beautiful DSLR, and just doing bits and pieces of arts and craft. I work with kids for a living, but it doesn't take up much of my time which is why I thought I'd give myself a challenge this November! Hoorah! :)
