Practically the first thing people always seem to start asking in here (apart from "Where can I hang my coat?" - you'll find a coat closet next to the toilets) is "When's the Kick-Off party?" So here's the thread to discuss it.

I would suggest that we either hold it on the 18th or the 25th of October. If one of those dates suits you better than the other, say so in here. We'll go with whichever date suits more people.

Last year we held it in the cafe of the West Yorkshire Playhouse. That seemed to work well (they certainly had space enough for all of us) so unless anyone has any other suggestions we'll go with that again.

I'd love to come to this, but I'm only in W Yorkshire between the 27th and 30th of October thanks to work commitments. I guess there isn't really much chance of it being during those dates since they're week days.

I can do the 25th but not the 18th. The WYP cafe also sounds like a very sensible idea :)

An equally important question is, "When's the TGIO party going to be?"

Hi Magenta, does this mean you're taking up the challenge again.? Thought you'd have known better after last year: I'll be available for either date, if I'm fit enough. Look forward to seeing you all again, new and old.

Best wishes,
Chris

Either's good. So long as it's a Saturday (or a Thursday but I don't see that as likely for anything), and I have enough advance warning to get cheap tickets, I'm in.

At the moment I can go to either of the two, I'll probably be able to say more as the date gets closer though, there shouldn't be anything that comes up so... whatever is easiest for people I'm cool with.

I can't make the 25th at risk of getting lynched, could probably make the 18th if it happens.

Alas, can't make the 25th (big family party) though the venue is fine by me. Just about any other day would be fine tho - I can give a lift to anyone coming from Harrogate (If there is anyone)

I can do the 25th but not the 18th, I'm working unfortunately. Would be nice if I could make it though since I couldn't get to anything last year, and I could do with some inspiration for this year's novel....

I'd love to be able to say I could do both; however, being in boarding school, I might have to beg my grandparents to take me, as well as somehow kill my games teacher so I can miss an hour of hockey *cough-torture-cough* What time would it be from until (please say in the evening ie. six o'clock)?

We usually go for an afternoon bash - about 2pm. Those of us with small children can't stay out in the evenings very easily...

18th is much better for me, but will try and make 25th if it's then.

Any time from 2pm is brill. I shall start pondering interesting fruit to bring... or can we extend into veg as well this year?

Either day in the evening. Neither day in the afternoon... ='[ Stupid work. I'm not sure if the CDs it provides are worth the time it consumes... Hang on - what am I saying???

Either day is fine by me, location and time are perfect, the only problem is what fruit to bring!

For those who can only make the evenings - it's possible (though by no means certain) that the party may still be going in some fashion (although we'll probably have moved on from the WYP by then). If you drop me a NaNo Mail, I can give you my mobile number and you can text me to see what's happening once you're available to join us.

Ack, we're at a wedding and then visiting friends. My traditional failure to make the Kick Off party is thus assured.

The one year I managed it I failed to hit 50k. So this could be a good thing.

More chance I can get the 25th off than the 18th, since there's more time. However I will try to get either date if possible.

The 25th would be ideal for me; I think I might be busy on the 18th.

Should be able to make both, but the 25th's better for me if it's likely to be in the afternoon.

Hokay! Majority vote says the 25th, so that's the date we'll go for.

Apologies to those who could only make the 18th - truly is it said, 'Thou canst not please everyone.' There should be plenty more meets to come though, so hopefully some of them will be more suitable.
