Participants in the Richmond area:
As I said in the other thread, writing a novel in a month is easier when you get to meet and connect with people who are taking the same venture at the same time. It's harder when you don't have anyone or anything to hold you to your goals of finishing that novel.
Last year, we had a Write-In every week at a single location. It was fun. I looked forward to it every Sunday. But it wasn't convenient for everyone.
If you guys will volunteer, we can change that, and have more people able to see each other weekly to commiserate, advise, and groan together as we each work to punch out our novel on time.
So, we need to know a few things from you:
1. How interested are you in coming to the Write-Ins?
2. What day of the week can you set aside a few hours each week to come to the Write-Ins?
3. What area do you live in? A few people answered this already in a previous thread.
4. Would you be willing to help at one of the Write-Ins? For this, your main function is to be there on time and let everyone know they're in the right place. We may get volunteers little prizes to give to the person who gets the highest word count during the Write-In.
Thanks, everyone. I look forward to hearing from you.

Not sure what I would do there except bother everybody. I write key-to tube on an eMac and don't have a laptop and do nothing on tree paper. During the month, I may need to hang and cool off, now and then. At a write-in, maybe some of us can find a corner where we won't disturb those actually writing, and howl.
The region is crawling with Starbux. I visit the one at Oxbridge: Courthouse and 360(Hull)

I have to say I like the idea of making sure that we have at least on each side of the river. I know Jean did an early one for the teens who were in the group and I also like meeting on Sundays near VCU. I think if we space them out and take turns it could be do-able. As for the talkies feel free, because my laptop seems to have decided to retire so I'll be doing the tree thing for at least one week.

Oh an addendum to my previous statement. I need at least one place to be someplace that offers more than caffene as a drink option. Starbucks gives me the speed kick that most meth addicts dream about. I hate it.

This. I love coffee but even de-caff makes me feel like my heart is going to explode.
I vote some place with alcohol. lol.
I also like any places that are nearer to VCU.

Yeah, I know which Starbucks you're talking about. You could look into renting one of those portable text editors they have available through the NaNo website.
I like the howling idea. Maybe we should incorporate that into all write-ins.

I love it when a plan comes together. I am usually good to help run a write in on Wednesdays and Fridays as long as it after 5:30 and I need to leave by 10pm (gotta pick up the roommate) Being near VCU is not a problem since I work in Carytown now and of course I live on the Southside so that leaves many options. I'm going to check out capital ale house tomorrow and see what life is like there.

I'll answer my own questions, while I'm here.
1. I'm very interested in coming to Write-ins. In fact, since I'm signing up to be an ML, it's pretty much a requirement.
2. I can pick any day of the week. My bosses are flexible. Sunday seems like a day that could work for most people. What do you all think?
3. I live in south Richmond, near the old Cloverleaf Mall. This is a good mid-point between downtown and the Midlothian/Chesterfield areas, so I have some flexibility in which area I would go to for a write-in.
4. Again, I have to help at write-ins, since I'm to be an ML. Maybe I can wear something crazy, like a pair of undies on my head, to let everyone know they're in the right place . . . and immediately regret it. Nah, I'll just do a sign.
By the way, did I mention you can email me if you have some questions, suggestions, indigestions? It forwards to my phone, so I may even answer immediately. My email is joewrotehaikus@gmail.com. My response may come from a slightly different address, but still joewrotehaikus. That's just my phone's email, and you can reply to that address directly; it doesn't matter.

okay Boss here' s my official reply.
1 You know I love a good write in I went to most last year.
2 Tell me where and I will help, just remember Mondays after 10, I gotta run, Tues and Thursdays are out. Sundays are always great.
3 I will travel across the water if I have to, but I do prefer a nice southside location.
4 And if you do wear the underwear I prefer boxers to briefs.

Let me start off by saying some may find this e-mail filled with un-PC comments and double entrendres and some really bad spelling. But hey you've been warned.
So doing my favorite thing today which is DWB and playing classic rock and roll to confuse the masses. I checked out a couple of places that I thought might be nice for write in's.
I like the Panera Bread on Midlothian and the one Broad that's at the Mall, I also like the Starbucks at Hull and Courthouse and the one on Grove (speaking of Starbucks, I've had two cups today so if anyone knows a good way for me to get down let me know),
Finally I like Crossroads, but I have to say I prefer the one on Forest Hill Ave because of the parking. That being said I don't mind going to the one over by VCU, for our college writers.
For our high-end folks there is also a Caterra's Cafe (I think that's the name) on Grove. It offers the best of both worlds coffee and wine.
Now I have some ideas and comments about our first get together that I will post under that.
And finally Capital Ale house not good for write-ins. not enough space downtown and the one on Midlothian besides being minuets away from Lynchburg (yea I know that's a bit of an exaggeration), is really rather pricey, of course if someone has a sugar daddy willing to pay the billing let me know I'm looking for one.

I'm thinking bars might not be so hot an idea, only because of how rowdy they get. With football season in full swing, it'd be like holding mass in a Chuck E. Cheese's. I did like having write-ins at Crossroads (I'm not that far away from the Forest Hill location). Starbucks or Panera wouldn't be bad either.

Hey guys!
I seem to be in a more northerly location than most of you, since I'm in the West End. I haven't been to a write-in before, so I'm really looking forward to being in an area where I can this year.
I like the idea of Panera better than Starbucks, since it has more options and they tend to be larger. I would totally be up for the bar idea, but I don't think we'd get much writing done.
I'm definitely willing to help, if help is needed. Just let me know when and where!

1. How interested are you in coming to the Write-Ins? Definitely interested. I need the accountability.
2. What day of the week can you set aside a few hours each week to come to the Write-Ins?
Friday and Saturday.. Possibly some Sunday afternoons.
3. What area do you live in? New Kent/Sandston Area.. about 25ish mins east of Richmond. Mechanicsville and Sandston are the easiest places for me to get to, I've got a stick shift and it is one pain in the rear to drive into Richmond.
4. Would you be willing to help at one of the Write-Ins? Sure. I'm a minor (17), but hopefully that doesn't make any difference.
Edit: I'm hoping we could keep it underage drinking friendly..

After careful analysis of my current records, here's what I have so far for the write-ins:
Assistants:
joewrotehaikus (me), luckyjean, kyates1963
Service Regions:
West End, VCU, East Side, Southside
Days:
Sundays and Wednesdays both work for most people who spoke up.
Meeting places:
Starbucks, Panera Bread, Crossroads (VCU), Caterra's Cafe (Grove Ave)
Number of participants with stated interest:
9ish
I think kyates1963 can take a write-in near VCU or Southside. I can take West End or Southside, since I'm in between and work in the West End.
How many people east of Richmond or Eastside Richmond do we have who are interested in write-ins? I don't like that anyone wouldn't be able to join us because they live an uncomfortable distance away. So speak up. Raise your hands. Be seen.

In an earlier request for Write-ins volunteers, I stated I could do them in the Southside and near VCU. That was before the hard drive crashed. Since then trying to log on had failed many times, until now. Seems like a lot has been decided already. Please count me in for helping with Write-ins, if my services are still needed, just let me know.
Update: I have a fairly flexible schedule. So it shouldn't be too hard to coordinate several Write-Ins a week for me. Thursday through Sunday are normally good days for me. Anytime after 6pm those days works best. I could even try doing some day time ones for those who are so inclined. Just let me know.
As far as where,
On the Southside within about 20 minutes of The Swift Creek Reservoir:
Panera Bread at 4701 Brad Mcneer Pkwy, Midlothian, VA
off of Hull Street Rd Near Brandermill (free wireless)
Colony Coffee at 2425 Colony Crossing Pl, Midlothian, VA
off of Charter Colony Pkwy and Old Hundred Rd
Starbucks at 10009 Hull Street Rd, Richmond, VA
near Courthouse Rd and Hull Street Rd
Clover Hill Branch Library at 6701 Deer Run Dr, Midlothian, VA
off of Deer Run Dr and Hull Street Rd
La Prade Branch Library at 9000 Hull Street Rd, Richmond, VA
on Hull Street Rd across from Lynview Dr
(Last year while in Charlotte, NC we found the library to be an excellent place to do our writing. It did however limit talking time, it being a library after all. And of course drinks are sometimes not allowed. But we did get a lot of people coming to it, as well as getting a lot of writing done.)
Any other ideas would be welcomed of course. A favorite hangout with free wireless perhaps...
---
Downtown near VCU:
Crossroads Coffee & Ice Cream at 26 N. Morris St., Richmond, VA
between N. Morris St. and N. Brunswick St. near W. Main St. (free wireless)
Any other suggestions would be greatly received and pondered over.

1. I'm superhellainterested. I won't be in Richmond permanently until 11/9, but after that, I am srsly interested in coming to any write-ins within like 20 minutes of me...
2. More than one day a week. Putting off the job hunt (at least not fully hunting) until after my 50k. I would go to a write in every day if I could.
3. I'm going to be living in the West End (I'm new to here, obviously, so I'm not hip on the terms), off Broad St (most likely).
4. I will do as much as I can. This includes bringing cookies, signs, gold stars for fast (and slow) writers... I would love to be a hoster (I know there's a name for that...) but since I'm going to be in Indiana that first week, it probably wouldn't work :( :( :(. But I will be in B&N pretty consistently and am always, I mean ALWAYS, up for a word war or three billion.
5. I'm excited. Can you tell? This is my 4th year and I get more excited each time! <3 NANO!

2. What day of the week can you set aside a few hours each week to come to the Write-Ins?
Sunday might be the best.,

Well, looks like I won't be able to participate in any of these when I get back to VA. I live in Sandston, about 15 minutes from the airport, and I have no idea how to get anywhere near VCU, not to mention that it's a long drive for me. v.v poop.

1. How interested are you in coming to the Write-Ins?Moderately. I really like write-ins. They are motivational and I get writing done. However, last year I went to none and the year before to one. Still, it helps. Plan some and I will go to one. I write on an iMac which is not really portable. I wrote using a PDA in 2006 which is now outdated. If I ever get an iPhone I will be more inclined to attend.
2. What day of the week can you set aside a few hours each week to come to the Write-Ins? Sunday afternoon and evening; Saturday afternoon; Thursday evening
3. What area do you live in? In town on the south side of the river ... and I mean in town.
4. Would you be willing to help at one of the Write-Ins? Yes.

I'd say I am fairly interested. I've been a member since '04- it's high time I actually went to one of these!
Most of my evenings are free at the moment, although I may have to miss a Sunday in November for a prior commitment.

1. Very interested, since finally getting to go to one last year I really would love to help out.
----------2. I can't set aside time since starting 1st job. I'm floating around between AM & PM, I want to try and meet up. Me & fam were happy to hear from Ms LuckyJean's and Mr Baty since it was NaNoSeason again!
3. Along Chippenham right at the Richmond/Chesterfield line. I work at Hull & Genito.
4. I can possibly help out with the little rewards, I remember last year I got a little baggy full of treats and I work at a Walgreen's if you want I could get some little baggies, treats, little clearance items if you wanted. Not sure about the being on time, but I could try and help out as much as I can. I'm going to ask my Store Manager if I can put up a flier or two for the NaNoWriMo site otherwise, going to find every public advertisement cork board. Sorry about the late post, been so busy just trying to think of a plot lol I forgot to ask if anyone needed any help with this

I'm new to the area and new to Nano. I think the idea of write-ins is great. It will hopefully give me some motivation and let me meet some new people around the area. Right now my availability is probably weekends in the afternoon/evening but my schedule is changing so after the 10th any afternoon/evening is probably ok. I live in the southside of Richmond. I'm still not familiar with the area but VCU, Hull Street, or Forest Ave area should be easily reachable. I just need an address so I can get directions. As for helping out... I'm painfully shy at times and soft spoken so nothing involving directing people around or wearing underwear on my head. I would probably just confuse people, though, if there is another way to help out I'd love to.
