HELLO!
The forums are back early, I see! Welcome back, all previous participants! Welcome, newbies!
I'm your ML, Jha / Jaymee Goh, and I will be handling all Halifax events - again! If you need me, my contact is as follows:
e-mail: jhameia(dot)goh(at)gmail(dot)com
MSN: catts_o_catti(at)hotmail.com
Some housekeeping:
Most of our meetups, write-ins and parties will be held at Paperchase Cafe, 5228 Blowers St., unless I say / we vote otherwise. Ordinarily, I'd tell you that Google Maps is your friend, but I am wired from drinking Coke today, so I will tell you how to get there, right now!
Go down Spring Garden Rd towards Barrington.
After the Public Library, turn left (this is Grafton St.)
Take the first right down (this is now Blowers St. and you are passing the infamous Pizza Corner).
Walk down. Paperchase is right after I Love Sushi, and the cafe is upstairs.
The fabulous Aisha who runs the cafe has agreed to give us a 10% discount for NaNoWriMo (this is food and beverages) - if anybody has a colour printer and knows how to muck with graphics and cardstock, I could use your help printing cards so we can flash 'em to the staff for discounts.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 28TH, 2PM, is our first NaNo meetup since last year! WOO! It is our PRE-Pre-NaNo party. If you can't make it, DON'T FRET! We'll have a Pre-NaNo party in October!
We generally have write-ins every Saturday or Sunday, where we bring in our laptops and plonk ourselves in the 'Chase for a few hours just writing and taking in the excellent atmosphere and drinking our 10%-off food and drinks. I highly recommend coming out to these things, because they are fun and the writerly life can be solitary and sad, so these write-ins make it significantly less so!
If you have LiveJournal, my username is fantasyecho and I post NaNo event details on there. Event details can also be found on our Halifax NaNoWriMo Google calendar! Let me know if the link doesn't work.
SO!
Who's back? Who's new? What're you going to be writing this year? ARE YOU PSYCHED?

Won't be at the party thing... forgot about it, but, yes, I'm back. WHOO.

I'll get your name eventually! Third year? Really? I remember meeting you at last year's meetups, but not the year before's! Maybe my brain is going...

I have TWO advantages this year over all my previous fruitless attempts to get beyond, say, 5k at the most:
1. I have acquired a LAPTOP. If you recall my stellar performances last year using nothing but paper and pen while pitted against fingers thirty years nimbler than mine in a titanic struggle the likes of which haven't been seen since John Henry was a steel-drivin' man, you will ALL be trembling in terrified anticipation of our next SPEED ROUND challenge...
2. I am on SABBATICAL this year. This means I can actually devote more than seventeen seconds of my day (at random intervals) to the crafting of well-crafted, zaftig prose...
Extra points if you DIDN'T need to look up the meaning of 'zaftig'... [GRIN] A gold star on your term report if you can cite the first novel you encountered 'zaftig' in [for me it was Robert Heinlein's JOB].
In short, I'm psyched up, just like Charlie Brown at the beginning of baseball season -- or when he takes his kite out for the first time in March... or when he takes careful aim to kick that football Lucy is holding so firmly some twenty yards in front of him

I KNOW I've seen "zaftig" before. I just can't remember where.

I was there in '06, however I was a noob and very much the shy person.
Maybe the fourth year, you'll remember my name. (I'm VERY shocked; my preferred variation of my first name is short - as in, three letters short.)

Jen? Viv? Lis? Mel?
Yeah, I don't remember a lot of people's names. I forgot Katie's name today. I thought she was a Jen.

Hmmmm....
*smushes keyboard*
"sjr"
That works.

I'm in agreement with Jha. Don't encourage the computers. It's hard enough to feed me.

Everyone knows keyboards generate foodcrumbs directly from the aether already. They need sustenance that's conducive to being conductive.

It exploded, but in a good way. I had ideas coming out my ears!
I thought I could set up a Script Frenzy group like how you set up a NaNo group, but no one was interested, and I didn't plan ahead far enough. I stuck it out alone.
And hell, there was a meeting already? I need to pay more attention to these things! :(
Well, I'll be sure to make the next meeting. I've got a killer plot that I need some help with!

Haha, yeah, I e-mailed some, and I posted about it here before the forums were wiped. Just to kick things off really early. We'll have another meetup sometime soon, I promise! Keep your eye on the Google Calendar link I posted: it currently has deets on the Official Kick-Off and the First-Day Write-In Extravaganza!
And yeah, I heard about that... Aisha told me that someone'd tried to get the couches booked and she asked me what that was about, and I was like "dunno" but then I saw your post here! Good try though!

I am neither back nor new, but somewhere in between - it's been three or four years since I last attempted NaNo, and that attempt was feeble enough that it should probably be ignored SO
Hi! I'm Doug. I'm entirely 100% new to NaNo, and anything Zibblsnrt says about me is a lie, unless it's complimentary, in which case it's an outrageous lie.
